Why "It's a metaphor" is not an answer
Anyone who has argued against religion has received this response: "It's a metaphor! We don't take it literally." In this brief essay, I explain why this argument is completely ineffective at supporting religion. If you really think it's a metaphor, you should care whether it's a good metaphor---what message does it send?---and above all you shouldn't treat it as holy truth.
