Maths whiz Emily Martin has won a place in a video game competition - on a summer cruise! And her best friends Bella, Grace and Chloe are with her all the way.
While onboard, the girls set themselves a few anti-princess win the regatta, rescue the endangered turtle, show the gift shop manager that dolls can be more than be pretty, and prove to the gamers that girls can compete - and win!
Can the anti-princesses work together to complete their missions, and maybe pick up some new members along the way?
OK, I'm gonna have to agree with the characters on those lei dolls. Not only are they lame, tbh they're also a pathetic unrepresentative depiction of girls and women. No diversity whatsoever, or interesting factors either.
And I reiterate: Girls can be whatever they want to be. Princess? Okay. Athletic champion? Cool. Renowned travel guide? Good. Warrior Princess? Well, why not?
Be it tough as nails, Silk hiding Steel, or both if they so wish. Nothing wrong with that either.
And the prideful "we won't need rescuing" message falls flat when one is faced with situations one cannot get out of alone.
Natural disasters, life threatening diseases, the very genuine threats of organized crime.... Life is unpredictable and dangerous, sometimes filled with horrors.
Sometimes even the strongest need help, and that's nothing to shame others for.
Nice end to the series (though I wish there where more books or perhaps another series of the same characters at an older age). Each chapter is from a different characters perspective.
