Once a homecoming queen, Mercedes returns to Gull Harbor bankrupt and broken. In high school, she was out of reach for the guy nicknamed Goofy who helped her pass chemistry. Times have changed and so has Finn. Now he owns half the town and he’s still into his uptown girl with her uppity ways. That New York boyfriend Mercedes moons over? History.
Her life may have fallen in the cracks, but Mercedes can’t deny this crazy attraction to Finn. But no summer fling for him. Finn wants forever. While Mercedes mucks out summer cottages and plans a triumphant return to Manhattan, he wangles his way into her heart. Is it too late for an uptown girl to learn the lasting power of homespun love?
Barbara Lohr writes contemporary romance and women’s fiction, often with a humorous touch. Her series include Windy City Romance, Man from Yesterday, Best Friends to Forever and Romancing the Royals. Barbara lives in the South with her husband and a cat that claims he was Heathcliff in a former life. Visit her on Facebook at www.facebook.com/barbaralohrauthor.
Barbara writes wonderful characters that you feel you know and into a world where you feel like you are walking right beside them. Her contemporary romance stories come from the heart and hit you in the heart. I have not read one book by this author that I have not loved. Grab a book or two of hers and get stuck in you won't regret it if you like contemporary romance and women's fiction stories.
A little role reversal goes a long way in this endearing read from author Barbara Lohr. My favorite trait of any Barbara Lohr novel is that she does not do complicated. Her stories are easy to understand and filled with such warmth that it is like lending an empathetic ear to a forlorn friend. I received an ARC of Always on His Mind in exchange for an honest review. For Mercedes, her charmed life has hit the skids-leaving her with bumps and bruises along the way. Finn is the hometown boy that made good but longs for more than he has. Always on His Mind is peppered with moments of sentiment and tantamount life lessons. Reading Barbara Lohr is an inspiring treat that is always enriching.
This was a safe, clean read about second chances. Although others readers seemed to really like this book, I felt that the main female protagonist was spoiled and not very realistic about her situation with Finn. Even the conclusion didn't feel like a logical fit; instead, I thought she was using him again. I really didn't think she appreciated real love.
I won a copy of this book from the author and was not required to give a favorable review. This is a beautiful story of second chances. But these second chances first have to find there way to each other again. Mercedes was that popular girl in high school, cheerleader, homecoming queen and older sister. Finn was the geek of the class but he helped Mercedes through her science class. They were friendly but nothing more. He had a crush, she didn't think of him that way. Now they are adults and Mercedes is back after her business failed in NYC and Finn is the guy with the money now. He is her friend but she finally realizes the guy from high school is really great. Loved it.
Mini review at 25%. If I hear the comparisons to New York again....I am going to scream. I was screaming throughout the book about Mercedes and New York. I kept singing the theme song from Green Acres throughout the book. Geez. That woman had a hard head. Books are suppose to bring out emotions. Mercedes? I wanted to throttle her. Finn. Bless his heart. He needed love and a hug. But, in the end we did have a happily ever after and a lesson learned. Family, friends, support from your community is everything.
I didn't like Mercedes in the first book and she still annoyed me in this story, but, she grew on me eventually. I liked Finn and eventually be and Mercedes worked out to be a good fit. The book needs better editing, in one sentence Cole became Connor (oops!) I'm looking forward to the next story not only to read about Dianna and Will, but also to catch up on the other characters.
I had mixed emotions about this story. I was not that fond of Mercedes New York attitude and she seemed really self-centered to me. I get that Finn had a crush on her for years, but to me he comes off as almost like a stalker at times. I stopped reading when she goes to his house and they decide to head for his bedroom. I know it is closed door, but to me it isn't totally clean since you know they are only going into the bedroom for one thing.
I really enjoyed this story. Mercedes went home to visit her mother and sister. She was miserable due to loosing her business and had to file bankruptcy. Her old friend, Finn had come back in her life. She liked him but she had left a friend in New York and she was missing him. More to come, enjoy their story.
Returning home after her business fails and the glitz and glamour of her former life fades away Mercedes slowly remembers the girl she used to be and becomes a better woman. Finn is a charming hero and I'm in love with this small beach town.
I fell in love with Finn and his high school geekiness. Even the cool kids like Mercedes hid an inner geek. Sometimes it takes someone from our past to shine a light our future. Ms. Lohr hit it out of the park, again!
**** "Always on his Mind" (A Man From Yesterday series book 2) by Barbara Lohr
What a fun and heartwarming novel. Mercedes comes home from New York where she has left her "boyfriend," her now closed business and sold house. She keeps stating she is just getting some things out into place and then will be returning to New York. She still wears her high fashion clothes and inappropriate shoes and comparing her clothes to the non-brand name high fashion clothes in a negative way. She has to have her hair perfect and her makeup just right. Oh and starving herself so remains a size 2 as vs her usual size 8. And the audacity of Kate getting her wedding and bridesmaid dresses from...the local resale store. Throughout the first half of the book the reader just wants to shake Mercedes. She doesn't get a clue that her "boyfriend" isn't a seeing her daily numerous phone calls for a reason. She seems clueless that her clothes are the ones inappropriate for the hometown she used to love and grew up in. And that her size 2 dress size and eating issues are not healthy at all and that is why everyone is telling her she is too thin and she needs to eat.
And when she meets Finn on her first day there and loses a shoe in the tar on the road, she is surprised that he is not only helping her but is taking her where she needs to go. Not only that but she is surprised he is so well spoken and outgoing and that he remembers her so fondly. She can only remember as she saw him in high school and carries those stereotypes of him around for quite awhile. And constantly reminds him she is seeing someone and will be returning to New York.
Ever so slowly she begins to eat, she starts dressing far more appropriately and once she finally catches up with that "boyfriend" and finds out he has been sleeping with someone else and she truly focuses on hearing what he says and the tone he uses, she wonders what she ever saw in him and why she she is hasn't seen Finn for who he truly is: a smart, man-made wealthy, kind, honest businessman who also will give her the world if she would just let him.
As things start to settle more for Mercedes, she stops riding the fence about staying or leaving and decides to stay, see where things go with Finn and be more involved in a lucrative job she created.
The mellower, happier, and more pleasant Mercedes is such a different person. A likable and easy going person. And that wedding dress of hers and the bridesmaid dresses...all perfect for her own wedding.
Barbara Lohr has scored another hit in the second book of her new "A Man From Yesterday" series.
I love the town, I love the characters and how different they all are, and I love the simplicity of the small town, yet she makes it bigger and better with her characters and storylines.
I am looking forward to book 3...
If you want a fun, enjoyable, rich read with wonderful realistic characters and multiple storylines, this series is for you. Pick it up and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!
And the morals of Mercedes story: the grass isn't always greener on the other side, sometimes you need to take a risk, take that leap, get off the fence post and stop waffling and make own green grass on your side. So hard to do; so rewarding when you do.
I previously read & reviewed the first book in this series (Coming Home To You) and was pleased to see that the author followed up with a book about Kate's sister, Mercedes since she was such a stinker. I knew there had to be more to her story than the shallow narcissistic New Yorker that we met in the first book. Mercedes loses everything (her business & home) in the recession and after filing bankruptcy, returns home to Gull Harbor to lick her wounds. Her elitist boyfriend back in New York isn't returning her calls and she's reduced to cleaning vacation rental homes to get by. Her little sister, Kate, who used to idolize her is now engaged to a local guy & is living a life that she loves which Mercedes hates to admit that she envies. She reconnects with her old high school lab partner, Finn, formerly a skinny geek who is not only a buff hunk but seems to be wealthy. Finn has carried a torch for Mercedes since high school and sees this as his chance to convince her to stay in Gull Harbor with him. What follows is Mercedes journey to discover what's really important and where she belongs. This was an enjoyable sequel and I look forward to the next book in the series.

"Always on His Mind" by Barbara Lohr is book two in the "Man from Yesterday" series. This is Mercedes Kennedy and Finn Wheeler.
Mercedes and Finn were best friends in high school. They were complete opposites. Finn has always been crazy about Mercedes but he is the nerdy guy and she is a homecoming queen.
Now, things are different. Mercedes is back in Gull Harbor and is down on her luck. Finn now owns half of Gull Harbor and is an extremely attractive guy. Mercedes and Finn paths cross again. Finn is still crazy about Mercedes.
The reader could feel the attraction between Mercedes and Finn. Will Mercedes and Finn be able to find true love? Or will Mercedes not take a chance on true love due to her personal and business struggles?
This is a sweet story of two people that get a second chance at love. Another winner for Barbara Lohr. I love her stories. They get your attention right away and keep it.

This book is the second in an amazing series called "Man from Yesterday." Barbara has established a tight-knit community with friendships that last forever. A town that as you read, you will wish you were a part of it. In this book, You will find a hopeless Mercedes coming home to lick her wounds after failure in New York. Finn is waiting for her with an open heart. With the help of her family, his sister, and Finn's steady persistence she comes to realize that everything she needed was there all along. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance story. Or any good story at all!
I really enjoyed this contemporary romance with likeable characters and heartwarming romance. I loved Finn Wheeler, former high school geek, who now owns half the town, and his chemistry, interaction and repartee with uppity Mercedes Kennedy who had to return home bankrupt from New York City and has to clean summer cottages because she's broke. Always On His Mind is so beautifully written, the characters came alive and I felt I was in Gull Harbor sharing every experience with Finn, Mercedes, their family and friends. I was really sad when the book ended and can't wait to read more from Barbara Lohr. I was fortunate to be gifted a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Mercedes heads home to regroup after her business in New York fails. She is there for the wedding of her sister Kate but is determined to come up with a new idea to get her back to New York. Mercedes runs into Finn, who she knew in high school but over the years he has really changed. Finn has always had a crush on Mercedes, but does he have a chance when her dreams and boyfriend Stephan are back in New York. Finn is not going to give up easy this time. A very sweet romance with very likable characters. * I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Part of the Man from Yesterday series I am now going to go back and read the first book . Mercedes has come back to Gull Harbor to look after her mother but she has brought her big city attitude with her . She meets up with Finn,he was her old high school chemistry lab partner, he had a crush on her then which he has not gotten over. What is going on with her boyfriend from the city why is he not answering her calls? Will Mercedes see she is right where she needs to be? Will Mercedes and Finn get a happy ending? I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
I started out really liking the book, but it took me a little bit to try to remember all the characters and relativity. In the middle of the book, it started to drag a bit....but then it could be because I had stuff going on in my life and I wanted the book to move faster. I was a bit confused whether Mercedes had a medical issue (didn't really). The story ended as I expected, and that is a good thing because I like happy endings. I would read another book by this author. I received a free copy of the book in return for my honest review.
I was so wrapped up in Mercedes and Finn's story. Mercedes returns home after losing her business. She runs into Finn who she went to high school with. He has always been in love with her. But Mercedes just wants to get a job and save enough money to get back to New York and restart her business and be with her boyfriend. Can Finn convince her that living in a small town is better? Will she realize that Finn loves her? You will not be disappointed in this book!!.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. I love Barbara Lohr's work and have never been disappointed. She uses strong characters and great story line you will love reading this as much as I have. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Uptown girl Mercedes has come home to pick her self up and start all over again to return to Manhattan. She is mooning over her New York boyfriend but will Finn be able to turn her around?
Sometimes what you think you want isn't the things you've dreamed. This is true even in love. Rediscovering yourself in the place where you grew up brings the important things to life and finding out the one person who has always loved you has been there all a long is the beginning of all your dreams. Finn remembers everything about Mercedes and never forgot the girl she was.
