Bootstrapped

Rate this book
Portland travel wear designer and accidental sleuth, Mata Morrow, is prepared to rip someone apart at the seams. She discovers that vandals have laid waste to her new MmPorium studio space on the very morning an investor is due to arrive, her favorite barista has turned up missing, and there's not a cup of cold-brew in sight. But burglary and lack of caffeine are the least of her troubles once one of her beloved Remarkables bumps into a weedy corpse during a sunrise float at Willamette Falls and drifts straight into the crime scene.

Once the police take her niece Abbey in for questioning, Mata’s resources reach a low-water mark with the double whammy of bail bonds and rebuilding MmPorium’s materials. Niece Kesey’s arrival from San Francisco layers in the complexities of sibling histories. Mata takes her re-doubled troubles to the 'Bookies', the literature-loving salon of ever-resourceful women. There, she uncovers clues that help her to de-construct trade secrets at the left-coast’s best costumers, the pros at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Bootstrapped takes the reader backstage at the world-acclaimed OSF, down the rapids of the Wild and Scenic Rogue River, and through the back door of crowdfunded fashion. As Mata and the Bookies investigate the shady shortcuts, professional jealousies, and risky passions that fuel players in this realm of creatives, they discover that when it comes to crime, there’s no bar too low.

Bootstrapped is the third in the Mata Morrow Mystery series.
