Shifters of Nunavut continues... After over a year of pursuit, Indigo has finally found the male whose scent calls to her on a primitive level. Strong, intelligent, and unbearably beautiful, she knows that Sten is destined to be her mate.
Brother and advisor to the most formidable alpha in the arctic, Sten is comfortable in his position as a beta male. He has no idea what to make of Indigo, a shifter female nearly half his age, who seems convinced that he’s to be her mate and the sire of her pups. But as chaos and upheaval ripple through the tundra, Sten finds himself with a powerful need to keep the eccentric female by his side, even if it means defying both of their brothers.
Chasing the Alpha is a full-length novel and the third book in the Shifters of Nunavut series.
Did not like this book. DNF. My biggest issue was that leading woman whose is 22 seems to act more like a 15 year old chasing after a man twice her age. She's suppose to be a healer but really isn't one and she's pretty much useless in my opinion. Not to mention she's a shifter in the arctic north and should have had more sense. Overall, I just couldn't stomach her very much.
CAPTIVATED BY CHASING THE ALPHA !!! Title: Chasing the Alpha Series: Shifter of Nunavut Author: Viola Rivard Designation: Book Three of Series, Standalone Novel, NO Cliffhanger Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited Wow! I love it! And I'm totally smitten with Viola Rivard's new series, Shifters Of Nunavut! It's no secret that I adore everything Viola Rivard writes but she's really outdone herself this time with an exciting new world in an exotic location and a wonderful new cast of intriguing, captivating and engaging characters. And when I say exotic, I mean exactly that! You can't get much more exotic than the Tundra of the Arctic. But let's talk about the story. It's exciting, edgy, thrilling, imaginative, humorous, arousing, romantic and seductive. Oh, and did I mention hot? Oh yes, it's definitely hot! The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. The dialogue is well executed and flows effortlessly. And the characters... well, they're always the best part of Viola's stories. Don't get me wrong, Viola's books are always fast paced, well crafted, well developed and well edited and truly, a pleasure to read but it's her characters I fall in love with every single time. Her characters are always unique, engaging, endearing and at times, laugh out loud funny but above all else, Viola creates, hands down, the most growly and quite possibly the most arrogant male heroes of anyone I know. You know, the kind that are always devilishly handsome and at times, surprisingly charming. (Swoon....) And the male protagonist in this story is no exception. The interaction and banter between the male and female protagonist is absolutely delicious, quite often hilarious, and their sexual chemistry is totally electric! Viola skillfully combines these elements to craft a delightfully entertaining paranormal tale filled to the brim with heart-pounding danger, heartbreaking drama, heart-stopping action, spine-tingling adventure, side-splitting humor and let's not forget, steamy, dreamy romance. When I read a Viola Rivard story, I'm always reminded of the Carly Simon song, Nobody Does It Better. The words replay in my mind: Nobody does it better, Makes me feel sad for the rest, Nobody does it half as good as you, Baby you're the best. And Viola definitely is the best! Buckle up my lovelies! It's another wild ride! And this time, we travel to the tundra of the Arctic for our story.
Twenty year old Indigo has dreamed her entire life of finding her mate. She spent her childhood listening to stories from her grandmother of how shifters of years past travelled the continent in search of their one true mate, the female whose scent would be unmistakable and irresistible - their soulmate. Those times were before shifters began taking humans as their mates and sadly most shifters viewed it as a fairy tale and no longer believed in true mates. But Indigo knew it was real. She knew because almost a year ago, she had picked up the faint but tantalizing scent of her mate. There was no doubt in her mind. She immediately recognized the scent of her soulmate and had been so distracted by it that she failed to see a trap set by poachers, and had it not been for a Ginnifer Castillo, a human cinematographer and documentarian now mated to her brother Zane, and her assistant Boaz, she would have been captured and killed. Thankfully she was rescued but since, she's still managed to pick up the distinct smell of her mate on several occasions, the most notable being two months ago when the Amarok wolves had come to Siluit. But the scent remained beyond the inlet, so close yet beyond her reach. She knows he's out there and this time she'll find him. Many nights she's dreamed of her Prince Charming coming to sweep her off her feet and claim her as his mate but nothing could ever have prepared her for what she discovers. She's finally found him but can she convince him they're destined to be together? We'll see!
Sten is content with his role as Beta of the Amarok Pack and advisor to his brother Erik, the most formidable and savage alpha in the Artic. He's happy with his life as it is. That's not to say that he always enjoys doing his brother's bidding, especially now that Erik has taken Astrid as his mate after promising her to him. He knows it's for the best but he doesn't approve of Erik's behavior or his plan to betray the Siluit Alpha, and certainly didn't want to be the one to make the trip to the Siluit Pack. But even his worst expectations could never have prepared him for the young female Siluit wolf who meets him at the border and seems to be completely enamored with him. Sten made the mistake of falling in love once before. The relationship produced a pup but ended in devastating heartbreak and now, Sten is left raising his daughter alone. He has no interest at all in another disastrous mating especially with the sister of the Siluit Alpha. Indigo is beautiful but only half his age. There's no way he could actually be interested in her, right? So why then is he so attracted to her with both he and his wolf feeling so compelled to claim her? Oh my! He could never mate and remain with his pack. It just isn't done. And he would never leave Erik and Amarok pack, would he? Hmm....he just might! We'll see! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! I can hardly wait for the next book in the series, Sharing the Alpha! Sharing? Oh yes! Come on guys, after all, this is a Viola Rivard series we're talking about so bring it on!
Book #2 of this series will always be my favorite. I am just not into reading about the Leading Lady being the person who is continually pursuing the Hero... it isn't attractive nor a turn on. This IS the first time Rivard has written a book like that. I had such high hopes for the age gap romance and how it would translate into the shifter community but it just fell flat for me. I guess they all can't be winners.
Indigo and sten are interesting and likable characters from the first two shifters of Nunavut. This story really helps you understand them and what is going on in the world around them. I would recommend reading the first two books first but they aren't 100% necessary.
I happen to be a big fan of Viola Rivard and have read all of her published stories, my favorite among them being The Dragon's Appraiser. I started reading Enslaved by the Alpha when she was releasing it in a series. The end of the series left me rather disappointed, so imagine my newfound hope for the future when I discovered there was a new ending...and that's what brought me here.
We met Sten in the series Enslaved by the Alpha and I couldn't help but like him as the complete opposite of his brutish brother, Eric. Indigo, we meet in the story before, Capturing the Alpha. I was excited to finally see a shifter on shifter romance and wondered where the story would take me.
I'm sorry to say, I don't feel like I've gone anywhere. While I could relate to Sten in series, even though his role wasn't a large one - I found I could not relate to him in his own story. The value of the overall writing seemed to slip. The characters were almost nothing more than stick figures dancing on a cardboard back drop - I felt nothing for them, I felt nothing from them, I felt no investment in their lives. Such a disappointment.
Even Astrid and Erik lost their appeal in this story. Their role of secondary characters was so lifeless, I actually found myself not wanting them in a scene.
What I noticed, as well, was the lack of an internal dialogue - we're told what the characters were thinking without them actually thinking it. There was, in fact, so much telling that the narrative tone I've grown to love was absent. It seemed like someone was just relaying a story verbatim. I can say nothing for their personalities, and their relationship was 'blah', even the romantic scenes were lackluster.
Lastly, the grammatical errors....there were instances where a word was missing, making my eyes jump back a couple of times to re-read the sentence. Or, there was an extra word there. Some scenes were confusing because of the way it was handled or because the detail was lacking.
All in all, when I found out that Sylvestre and Coral were going to have their own book, I was less than enthusiastic since their characters were every bit as stiff as the rest of them with their personalities having to be slightly toward the extreme in order to stand out. In fact, they were so useless and bland that the book could have omitted them altogether without leaving a gap at their departure.
I gave it three stars because despite it all, this woman can tell a good story.
I couldn't wait to read what Viola had in store for us next in her "Shifters of Nunavut" series, so I was extremely excited when 'Chasing the Alpha' was published. 'Chasing the Alpha' is book 3 in the series "Shifters of Nunavut", although it's not absolutely vital, please read the series in order for it's full potential. Once I started reading I was drawn into this story, not as dark as book 2, you get more of a glimpse into the workings of pack life. Indigo has been following the scent of a male that could only be her mate for over a year, so she's anxious & relieved when she catches onto his scent & finally finds him. When Indigo takes Sten into her den, Sten realises he has to convince an alpha to move his pack away from the dangers that the werebears bring.
Oh my, the action & tension kept going, imagine having 2 Alpha's in the one den. It was wicked to see how Gin & Zane, & Astrid & Erik are going. I can't wait to see what Viola has in store for the next book...
Reading Viola's books is like taking a vacation to their location. I like the feel of Nunavut, it's an exciting, beautiful, and dangerous environment. Luckily in Chasing the Alpha we get the story of my favorite Nunavut alpha. I fell for Sten in Enslaved, he's so grounded and responsible. Here we learn he's also forceful and selfless and more intelligent than we knew. We knew from Claiming the Alpha that Indigo has a fated mate. She has scented him often, but never seen him, yet she has never given up. And when she finally meets him, he might not know it but he doesn't have a chance.
This story is so much more than a meet cute romance. The threat of the Bears is still her as well as so much pack politics and the intermingling of so many characters.
From chapter one I was so enthralled with the story that I could not stop reading it. Erik had sent Sten to the Siluit pack to possibly get his sister-in-law to come to the Amorok pack before the bears attacked. Plus to possibly warn them of said attack. But Sten happens to find his mate among the pack and she's the Alphas sister. Risking his brother's wrath since he is the Amorok Alpha, Sten end up bringing the entire Siluit pack to Amorok. Their is so much h that happens in this book that it keeps you on your toe waiting to find out what's going g to happen next. Well written and very entertaining to read, as well as a very original storyline. Well worth reading with high praises to the author.
Book 3 is Sten and Indigo's story, an unlikely pair due to the age discrepancy, but a fated one. As we saw in previous books, Indigo knows she has a mate. She has scented him several times but has been unable to find him. Sten's not looking for love, but can't deny the connection to Indigo no matter how much he tries to deny it. I have loved Sten's character from the very beginning and I am delighted that he finally gets his. This book is busy, the merging of the packs, their ensuing problems and resolutions, babies/pups, loss, and yes, even crazy Erik is present. An enjoyable read that I simply could not put down until the book was finished. This book can be read as a stand alone, but you would probably enjoy it more if you start with the first book in the series.
so i used my kindle unlimited to read this . was an ARC but due to not being well from ear and teth pain i have been out of sorts so i am a day late on my review so i do apologize for that . so what happens when you finally meet your mate but your mate does not see he is also your mate . and why does one of the beta males seem pulled by Coral who was supposed to be Zanes mate but now has Ginnifer . and what is happening between the two sisters and there is trouble for one of the sisters . and can Sten and Indigo finally come together find out by either buying it or use your kindle unlimited subscription like i did can't wait for cORAL AND SYLVESTERS STORY
I received this book in exchange for a review in the author's review team. In no way did that affect my opinion. This is the first book I've read as a full novel in one instead of many short installments. This book is about Sten, the older brother of Amorak's Alpha. It was refreshing to read about a beta that has the ability to be an alpha, but isn't. I also enjoyed the fact that the romance was between two shifters instead of shifter and human. If you've read Viola's previous books you follow along with who is who, and we meet some new characters. This is book 3, but can be a stand alone. This was a very good read just like all the others.
Wow! What a good book! I've really been looking forward to this story as I've read the Shifters of Nunavut series. I really liked Sten and Indigo's characters and couldn't wait to read their story. And it was even BETTER than I had hoped! This has been a great series and I've loved each book, but I think this has been my FAVORITE story so far. I received an ARC copy of this book for my review and I DEFINITELY HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! Enjoy!
This was a really interesting read. This is not your ordinary love story. I didn't like the facts that Indigo was always throwing her self at Sten wish he could've woo her a little. I wonder with threat of the bears still there as well there's also so much pack politics plus the intermingling of new characters I wonder where the books head it. I'm definitely interested in reading Sylvestre's story there's looks like it's gonna be lots of drama in that story.
So hot! The story line just get more and more exciting. Of the wolves of Nunavut, Sten has risen to my favorite alpha male. His story with Indigo will take you on a wide range of an experience; there are highs, lows, drama, light hearted, soulful, and action galore! Plenty of sexy wolves. This is a great love story, and I can't wait for the next installment!
In this continuation of the Shifters of Nunavut - we get to know a lot more about Indigo, Zane's sister. Indigo has run off again, chasing after a scent that continually eludes her. This time, she comes across her mate, Sten, but he wants nothing to do with the juvenile wolf. Indigo sets her sights on having him, but will he ever give in?
