I'm no Cinderella, and he's no Prince Charming... The Crown Prince took me prisoner. You read that right. Crown Prince. Castle, throne, the whole nine yards. The monarch of a totalitarian regime has locked me up in his fortress, and he demands that I marry him... and provide him with an heir! Me. The girl from Jersey. Trust me, I'm no princess. He's the last man I'd choose for my prince. He's an arrogant jerk and has a stick up his...you know where. But that dark hair, those deep blue eyes, those strong arms, those perfect abs, that humongous... sword. I can't stand him, but I can't take my eyes off him. I'm not marrying him and I'm definitely not his subject. If he wants me to be his princess, he better treat me like one or he can take his crown and shove it.
I’m on this Princess binge, so I totally picked this one up because of the summary and title. Hello, please give me a kidnapping book with a damsel in distress, but throw in a prince, yes please!
I will be honest the first part of the book was REALLY slow. It was three stars and there was just so much narrative writing. Yes, it’s that thing again that I hate (again my personal opinion), it was just pages and pages of narrative writing, I was skipping pages because it was so long. But once we get to the dialogue, I was into it.
So the first part is somewhat tough to get through, but after that it picks up.
Penny is working overseas, she thinks she is doing good by tending to the children and teaching English, what she doesn’t know is it’s a sex trafficking front. Crazy right? I thought this book was going to be light, but it’s not. It’s not a dark book, it’s just not happy in your face kind of read. Anyhow, the Prince saves her and decides to keep Penny for himself.
The banter between Penny and the Prince is really angsty. Yes! Calling all angst fans, if you want some back and forth pull your hair out banter between two main characters then this is for you. The Prince is kind of old fashion, the ladies wear old fashion poofy dresses and traditions are held high. I kind of liked this, it added something to the story.
The banter I didn’t like so much. Penny is hard to work through. She wants to go home and thinks the Prince is a monster based on how he acts towards his people. Okay, he’s not the nicest guy, but he’s not a monster. I was kind of fed up with Penny, but I like how strong and verbal she was.
It’s kind of like beauty and the beast, she slowly teaches him the proper way to rule. It’s cute and once they get to know each other better, it again picks up.
The steam level is low, it takes a while to get there and yes it was disappointing. I know, there doesn’t always have to have sex in books, but it does when I’m reading smut (this is not a smut book).
There’s a lot that goes on in this book. Overall, it’s was a pleasant read and I had to know how it would end that is why I kept reading. I still think the author needs to tweak the writing more, or maybe write it to my preference, hehehe. I could do with little angst, more steam and less narrative writing.
This one was crush and burn for me - what could have been a charming romance was as stiff and silly as the mechanical armour. For starters, I absolutely hated the heroine. Penny’s whining, self – righteous, disrespectful, judgemental, holier –than-thou, ignorant, arrogant, “This is not how it is done in America, therefore it is wrong because only America’s way is right” attitude set my teeth on edge -I am a firm believer in old adage “You do not preach your own Gospel in someone-else’s Church”. Kristoff’s totalitarianism was beyond ludicrous- he personally chops the heads off, all the buildings are grey and population is told what to eat for their own good (Apparently, fast food is forbidden as it leads to obesity and heart attack. How tyrannical is it is to deprive your subjects of clogged arteries! Monster!) In this speck of a country, which repelled both Germans and Russians during WW2 without being bombed in to oblivion (that one I found particularly ridiculous) “peasants “bow by dropping on their knees? And while there are women in military, the “Princess” is wearing full length ball gowns and bloomers as everyday attire? In the 21st century‘s Europe? To say that it was cartoonish and farcical would be an understatement. The villain of the story with its “world domination” aspiration turned up to be so bat – shit crazy that instead of creating tension and drama I actually laughed at the absurdity of it. The battle with rebel leader was part “Pacific rim” part Ripley’s battle with alien queen from Alien2, down to “Get away from him, bitch”. The chemistry between Penny and Kristoff was a fizzle, not a sizzle. There is considerable amount of descriptive sex scenes, and not a whiff of real connection or romance. But there was HEA with 6+ children, pizza and triple cheeseburger with Velveeta and mayonnaise. Hail to the truth, justice and processed cheese!
I'm not sure that I've ever read a book about a prince and princess but the blurb pulled me in and I thought why not give it a try? "His princess" is set in modern times but they just happen to be in a small country where medieval like settings still apply. It was hilarious to see the author reference modern times but then be living in castle wearing lace up dresses everyday. What really made this book for me was Penny and Kristoff's connection. I also loved his personality and confidence at times.
I love books about royalty! Maybe it's my inner 7 yr. old who always wanted to be a princess shining through, but I love them! This was an enjoyable read. Besides some editing flaws throughout the book, the story was very original. There were times at the beginning where it seemed a little slow. But it picked up about half way through. The complexity of the characters was well done, and it does not lack in the romance department either! Where can I find my own Prince Kristoff! ;)
***Main Heroine - Persephone A.K.A Penny ***Main Hero - Prince Kristoff (doesn't it reminds you of the movie Frozen :) "do you wanna build a snowman or ride a bike around the Hall").
Ok so overall this book is somewhat entertaining to read, well somewhat as I previously stated, it's just not your Typical Royal Romance book.
At times I had a bit of a hard time to understand the plot of this story, they way the story started was a bit on the down side, meaning it was a bit boring, but I did continue to read it. One of the things I had a hard time understanding was the fact that Penny(M.H) said that even thought Melissa was very interested in Brad, he wasn't interested much in her, but yet when they sneak off the camp to head to another camp to supposedly donate food Melissa says that she and Brad are going back to the states and getting married. Yes I do understand It was a lie Brad had formulated just to get Melissa to go with him so he could sell her off, but still it made no sense. There were more than a few grammatical errors as well, even thought it didn't bother me much, and I do understand people make mistakes, but still I know other people might no agree with that.
This book was basically a spin from the Greek Mythology story of Hades and Persephone, with some Iron Man and divergent movie mix and tidbits from other authors book sandwich in it. I respect every author, because writing isn't easy, but unfortunately it makes it seems like there was lack of own creativity. The book seemed somewhat unreal making it difficult for me as a reader to engross myself in it. I also dislike the fact that when time went by on the book, it didn't say how much so basically from point A it skipped to point C totally leaving point B out. A perfect example would be from Penny's and Kristoff's trip to New York to their wedding day, it didn't say how much time had passed or like how after the wedding and consummation the next paragraph had already started with Penny having a 6 year old daughter, but then as you keep reading you find out it's not just one she's had but 4 total, plus is expecting triplets as well. As you can see at the beginning of that paragraph I was a bit confused trying to figure out how much time had passed, I thought it was six years, but then as I kept reading I come to realized that it had passed a total of 14 years, huh go figure, that did bother me a bit because there was no time sense. The ending seemed to have been rushed and cut off as if there was some sort of limit on how many words could be written.
Kristoff was made to look like an un-sensible bastard, I understand that It was the way he was raised and the way He was shown to run the Kingdom, but come on being an Ass to children or taking them away from their parents and sending them away because of innocent comments, Really?? I think it was a little too much, because for a person that wanted children, it made it seemed like he hated them. He was more of a dictator than a Prince. So I don't know if the plot felt through or if it was intentionally written that way. Seems like someone couldn't make up their mind.
Penny who refused at the beginning to marry the prince and become a princess was sure demanding and behaving like one even thought she still didn't have the title. She'll demand and argue with him a bit until she mostly got her way. It really bugged me the fact that she didn't want to go back to USA and was willing to sign up for another term on the missions she was doing because she was trying to run away from memories but wanted for Kosztyla to be like it. I felt bad for Kristoff he was really trying to make it the way she wanted it, but apparently it wasn't enough for her she wanted more like in such short notice, why couldn't she understand that changes takes time. She kept pointing out Kristoff's behavior, but didn't realized she was the one being a bitch. Another thing was when she was practically captive by the resistance she told the general she wasn't a virgin also somewhere at the beginning it was insinuated as well, but when she goes to have sex with Kristoff turns out she sort of was, she said she had done other things except that, argh so frustrating to many freaking contradictions.
Then there is Cassandra the women that was lined for Kristoff to marry, but by some unfortunate events, he had to kill his twin brother because of her, since Cassandra and his brother were in love and had planned on killing him so they could take over the kingdom and follow his father and grandfathers plan on the world, plans that would wreak havoc if they were followed thru, so Kristoff had to kill his brother when his brother try to kill him, but apparently he kept on going and small wars against the resistance which apparently Cassandra was the leader of, but he refused to kill her because he'll never laid a hand on a women. Now when the blond guard from Kristoff army takes Penny on false pretenses that she's going to see her parent's She takes her to Cassandra were Cassandra's intentions were to Kill her but, during a fight between her, Kristoff (yes he manage to arrived in time) and Penny, she manages to fall into the machine she was going to use to kill Penny and well you know what happens, she dies. Talk about Karma huh, I guess the phrase what goes around comes around is true. Now my main question is what happened to the blond guard?? she wasn't mention anymore after she turned Penny over to Cassandra, I wonder if I missed something. Anyways I'm bored already I could go on and on about this book because it has too many points to discuss since they don't make much sense. Many might have different opinions, and I truly respect that, but to me this book was more of a Flop.
**** 3 stars was more than enough since there were no 2.5**** I don't give it a 1 because I was somewhat entertained.
Well off to my next adventure, lets see what surprises I could unlock from Amazon and embark myself with it.
I didn't like the heroine, not even up to the end. She was extremely preachy. The first 60% of the book is full of her demeaning the Prince for the way that he runs his country. It wasn't even a philosophically sound argument. Her main reasons were that it wasn't how it's done in America. Because, you know, America is the greatest country on earth and every country should model their government off of ours. Any rebuttal he gave, she shut down with 'But, but, but, you have to have a CHOICE. Yes, your people are safe from crime, but they have to have a CHOICE. Ok, there's no unemployment, but they have to have a CHOICE. Everyone has access to healthcare, but they have to have a CHOICE.' That's pretty much how it sounded. As an American, that was extremely annoying. She was giving him this speech BEFORE she'd even seen his country, judging him based on what she'd heard of him in the media. I mean, this is a man that not only saved her from being raped, but saved her life. And, her thank you is to judge him for killing the man that was about to kill her without remorse, then berate him for how he ran his country - even though she hadn't actually seen for herself how the country was ran or heard him out, she just placed 100% trust in what she'd heard on American media because America always portrays other countries accurately. She sounded like an American idiot. Yet, somehow, this Prince found her endearing, wanted to hear more of her constant, biased, no foundation ranting about how completely sh*tty he was as a human being, and managed to fall in love with her while she showed him complete lack of respect in front of his countrymen. Did she ever even give a 'Thank you for saving my life.'? I can't recall. If she did, it was drowned out by her complete and utter ingratitude.
The actual romance came out of nowhere. And I mean nowhere! Just that morning she hated his guts. Then, that night, she's telling him she doesn't want to return to her room, but stay in his. Then has unprotected sex with him, risking pregnancy, when she supposedly doesn't even know if she wants to stay with him - and did I mention she just hated his guts that morning? *sigh* Around 70% the book became more interesting and I was able to finish. But, everything happened so freaking fast that my head was spinning. For the book to drag through over 60%, then fly through the remainder took some adjustment.
So, though I would like to say that the slow start was worth it by the end, I can't honestly say that as this is supposed to be an honest review. The heroine had no redeeming qualities, I have no idea what the prince saw in her. The Prince was an ok guy and developed well as a character. Everyone else in the book was pointless.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book's blurb had my mind's wheels spinning in anticipation. The blurb was very different from other Royal romances so I was like, yeah? I should start this book!
Annnndd it was GREAT!
*“Can I call my parents? Please ? I need them to know I’m alive.” “No.” I grip the fork hard and slam the blunt end down on the table. “You can’t just keep me here like this. Who do you think you are?” “I am the crown prince,” he says, shrugging.
He looks at me like that’s adequate explanation.”*
I mean just WOW! First of all writing was nice, humor was there and the story was - let's just say unique! We have a strong, independent heroine here who is not afraid to give a piece of her mind to the Prince. Prince Kristoff is the Crown Prince of Kosztyla. They both meet in an extremely unpleasant situation and that's from where their story starts!
*“You can’t buy my affection with kindness.” “I know. That is why I want it.” “This is dumb. There’s no such thing as love at first sight. You might be a prince, but I’m no princess and this is no fairy tale.” “It could be, if you want. Anything you want, I can give you.”*
I think I loved Prince Kristoff more than any other Prince I've ever read about!!! There was actual sword fighting scenes in the book and SO MUCH MORE!
*“The madness is in me, too . I dip into it every time I put on that armor and unsheathe that sword. It’s like a tiger stalking behind me. I can never forget it is there, or it will devour me and there will be no one left to hold it back.”*
See?!! ❤❤
And NO! It's not a historical romance!
You'll be hooked from the very first page. There was continuously something interesting going on in the book, I think it might be a piece of art, this book.
Oh and the hero is PROTECTIVE, SWEET and HAS A FANTASTIC BODY and he sways with this mysterious charm, I just wanted to read more and more about him. I wished the story never ended!! But it did, and the epilogue was SO GOOD!
It isn't titled as epilogue but the author shows the story of the couple after 14 years. It was lovely! They had kids n all...!
*“Does my princess need to rest?” he murmurs, stroking sweat-heavy locks of hair from my eyes. I grin. “No. Your princess needs another hard fucking, my prince.”*
I'll start by saying this book was an utter bloody mess! The plot was just confusing most of the time. Penny wore period style dresses but it was 21 century? I mean she talked about Twitter and Facebook! How does that make sense or fit into it? I hated Penny's character. She was selfish and self righteous. Disrespectful and kinda stupid with whats going on around her..."poor me". She thought America was so great and kept referring to "oh we dont do that there". He was a tyrannical Prince. He was cold and unfeeling. He saw her and decided to have her. He's executing people by lopping heads off not that they didnt deserve it but still he was judge, jury, and execution. Of course people are scared of him. He's not nice! There were times I admit he was ok. I didnt even enjoy the rubbish of it all until around the time she slept with him the first time. Then it got bad at the end with the fight with the psycho bitch and Aliens reference. Come on...really? On the character Melissa? Um I am sorry but why did she start a rape victim group...not that its a bad thing. She wasnt even CLOSE to being raped, Penny was the one led to a tent and had her clothing cut off and shoved down on a cot face down not her! Melissa was threatened at being sold yes but nobody even touched her! She had reason to be scared shitless yes, but I dont buy her mental breakdown like she had. It was overkill. This was just so bad and all mixed up. The mechanical armour? Um that was weird and made no sense in this story. I really liked the blurb which is why I read it. It was nothing like the blurb. A small piece. Dont recommend. So not 400 pages...maybe like 120 pages and the rest was crap or other short stories or teasers. Fillers pretty much.
Penny left her native shores of New Jersey to forget a heartbreaking memory. She volunteered to teach at a foreign and backward land of Solkovia. But a dangerous twist of events almost killed her, had it not been for the huge man in an armor who saved her. But he also took her to his kingdom of Kosztyla , where his word reigns supreme. Kristoff fell in love with Penny at first sight and wants her to be his Princess . But the cute freckled American is stubborn and wants to change how he runs his people. Little does she know that someone wants his power. But he will do everything to protect his most important treasure, his light, his Persephone, Penny.
I ABSOLUTELY FLOVE THIS BOOK! It's literally a new sexy fairytale for adults. The plot was original and exciting. And the creativity of this author's imagination has impressed me. In Kosztyla, I was transported to a setting with a medieval castle that has Wi-Fi access, traditional cultures with modern technology , and a magical powerful armor that even found its way to New York. And this was such an fantastic read! This book had a touch of romantic comedy. I enjoyed the witty banters between Penny and Kristoff. Penny was such a refreshing character with her spunky personality and sense of humanity. And Kristoff was a hot warrior prince. I loved their chemistry.
This is only my first Abigail Graham book and I am glad that I was able to read an advanced copy of His Princess in exchange for an honest review. I will certainly be checking out her other books.
O.M.G.!!! His Princess, where do I start? How do I finish? I just don't even have the words for Kristoff and Persephone's story. You ever read a book and before you're finished you already know it's going to be a five star read? That's exactly what happened when I read His Princess. From the first beginning Graham threw me for a loop because I totally wasn't expecting the story to go the way it did! Penny is as an aid worker thousands and thousands of miles from home. One night she leaves camp and through a series of crazy twisted and unfortunate events, she ends up the property of a real live prince. I loved Penny, she didn't take any ish from anyone. Her and Kristoff gave it to each other go for go with neither backing down. Greek mythology was infused into the story, that element just heightened the story even more for me! His Princess was HIGHLY entertaining! There were so many things that had me literally laughing out loud like omg did she really write that in there? And OMFG! THAT twist!! The TWIST at the end that I NEVER EVER in a million years saw coming will blow you away! There really aren't words worthy I could find to describe and appraise this book for greatness that it was. But, I tried. I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
This story was okay for me. I wanted to like it because who doesn't like fairytales, but I just really couldn't get into it. The beginning was SLOW; which was hard for me to get into. Another thing was that the author needs a better editor. Sentence structure and wording were very awkward in some parts. Sometimes I can look past this, but it when it becomes repetitive it starts to take away from the story. The heroine bugged me. She had good intentions like the hero, but it wasn't addressed in a good way. She wanted to leave home (USA), but when she sees a different culture it needs to be like said home she left. The hero wanted to fix everything and I felt for him. He was really the character that I connected with. We understood later in the story why his country is set up the way it is. But when he sees what he has done he changes it. I started to skim towards the end. I just wanted to know what happened. Good story, but I just thought it could of been delivered better.
His Princess was an unexpected story. It had suspense, intrigue and excitement along with romance and character growth. It also had a bit of a futuristic thing going on that made me think of Iron Man. Once I started reading it I needed to find out what would happen next. It was a very unique read with its comic book like hero and extremely opinionated heroine. I found it very entertaining and at times unforeseen twists gave it some excitement.
Kristoff was a highly dominant character who is use to being in control and his word is always a command. Persephone is the opinionated girl from Jersey who tries to make him see the light. I liked these two and liked their growth. This was a good read to get lost in.
This is really two short novellas/books in one. I was very surprised when the first book ended abruptly. There was no demarcation between the story and epilogue.
The first story had a number of grammatical errors and misspellings. I was able to get over it and quite enjoyed the premise. I think it would've made a fantastic full length story.
The second story was also quite good and I enjoyed it. I didn't notice any grammatical and spelling errors. I love a story with an underworld/mafia tone to it and the dual pov was wonderful!
I wanted to give this book 5 stars, but the end seemed REALLY rushed. The rest of the book was fantastic, so I was surprised and disappointed with the way it ended. Then I got to the 50% mark and come to find out the book ends there, and another completely different book begins after.
DNF. This book began ok and than just crashed for me. Like a person from small Eastern European country I am also slightly offended not to mention the fact that the main female character sounded like a naive teenager.
This book made me crazy. It starts out with a kind of street smart heroine but she evolves into a......naive brat. The love story is ridiculous and the side story of the armor is just insane. By the end of the story I was thrilled it was over.
A Beauty and the Beast type story. A woman and her friend travel to another country to help the poor and sick and end up getting captured and almost tortured, but get rescued by a prince. They go to his castle and end up staying because their lives could be in danger. The female lead and prince get to know one another over time and she begins to melt his heart and she begins to realize he may not be as cold as he seems. Two words - Stockholm Syndrome. The thing I liked about it was that the main female character stood her ground and wouldn't take the prince's crap. She told him what was on her mind and what was happening and he started to understand. At the end they fell in love and the prince helped his kingdom. It wasn't an abusive relationship - just a captive/dependent one.
It's another book where the "description" is misleading and not really what the book is about, sorta. Parts of the description are in the story, just not how it's explained to the potential buyer. It's filled with naive people and lots of crazy totally insane people. A love story that drags on forever with gore.
Ironman meets damsel in distress. This lighthearted romance was a fun fast read, if not predictable. Beautiful daring maiden games the black heart of the rouge. With a little advanced technology thrown in. Good enough for a few hours entertainment.
So this is 2 full story but the book is suppose to be about a princess which is the shorter story and not the best one Bad boy next door is the best love Quentin
What a great read!! And such an awesome surprise, having a bonus book to read after!! Both books were great! I'll be heading over to get the next in each series..
You know what, this is the first book that I read that is progressively going down a star as I flip through the pages. I repeat, progressively. I'll explain to you in a second.
For the first few chapters, I was so thrilled. We have the setting: two fictional countries, with one of them torn out of war with the other being the (silent) bully. We have THE girl: an American woman who is running from past wound but end up stuck in the middle of political conflict, but try to be brave and true to herself. Lastly, we have THE boy: a ruthless ruler with a quirky sense of responsibility for his country and people. I actually like the early chapters because it works in describing the situation and atmosphere the characters were in, the conspiracy, and oh that battle scene! I like that the girl didn't meet the boy right at chapter 1. I was so intrigued and thought this is not the usual romance story. I was prepared for a 4-star read. That was, until the girl meet the boy.
Suddenly, the boy fell in love at first sight with the girl. Listen, I know that this is a 1st person POV yadda-yadda but throughout the story I hardly feel the manifestation of the said feeling. Sure, the boy talked about it. Often. But I couldn't feel it. The girl's initial reaction is interesting, because she rejected him. She even criticized him. Ok, I know this is an old formula, but it is still acceptable. What is not acceptable is that the girl kept whining America-this and America-that. It was almost as if nothing that the boy had done is right. I mean, if this is about two people from different world getting to know each other, shouldn't be a trade-off somewhere?
Surprisingly, it only took a short explanation from the boy to stop that incessant whining. From that point on... hurray, roses and honey everywhere. The girl went "hey you know what, I secretly think you're cute. Your one paragraph-long explanation looks convincing enough so I guess I'm having sex with you now." And boy, did they do it like rabbits. Again, and again, and again. Instead of showing how they figure out each other's feeling, readers are given the "rabbit scenes". So, one star down. Well, maybe I can still have my formulaic, predictable romance story after all.
But no. I thought it couldn't get worse after that, but boy, I was wrong. The last quarter was practically a joke. Nah, this is completely a 2-star.
I realize that this whiny review wouldn't have been written had I not had some sort of expectation when started reading this book. I truly mean it. This book have - or had - potential, but somehow I couldn't make out whether the writer wanted to write romance or political drama or erotica because each genre doesn't blend well with the others in this one. Too bad.
