Killshot: The name of the superpowered assassin who murdered my client and a long line of other people.
Killshot: The supervillain I need to hunt down to redeem myself not only as a superhero, but as a man.
Killshot: The woman who will kill me and all the people I love if I don’t get to her first.
My name? I am Truman Lord. I am a private detective and licensed superhero.
And I am in a mess.
Killshot is a stand-alone novel which can be enjoyed without having read Book One, Superhero Detective For Hire, or Book Two, The Missing Exploding Girl.
KILLSHOT is the third volume of the SUPERHERO DETECTIVE series, which is one of my new favorite novel series. It is a series about the adventures of Truman Lord, a hydrokinetic private investigator who combines a noir sensibility with crimes involving metahumans and superheroes. Sometimes the crimes are epic and terrifying like the Exploding Girl while other times they're just about sex or scandal.
The premise for this novel is Truman gets hired to be bodyguard to a retired supervillain. Sadly, Truman is better investigating murder than preventing it and he soon ends up with a dead client. Determined to avenge his client even if he couldn't defend him, Truman soon finds himself on the trail of a preternaturally capable Meta hitwoman.
This is a fairly straightforward story and enjoyable without many twists or turns. In fact, I would have liked to have known more about the imprisoned supervillains who hired Killshot. Sadly, this book does have the small flaw of Killshot being too dramatically evil. Some more nuance in the antagonists would be appreciated. Shadow remains a great character and one who plays off of Truman well.
In conclusion, this is nother great installment of the series but not without flaws. Still, I'm definitely buying the next one.
I rarely like detective stories , I do like sci-fi and fantasy , this book is the best I have read in a long long time that combines all three The main thing I like about the book is, besides being a person with special abilities , is that they are not gods. They are humans with frailties that make errors and bad judgments, but in the end try ,to do the right thing. Also I love the humor that was throughout the book . The relationship between the main character and shadow is one of the better parts of the book,it's the meat of the book. It shows that two people can work together, respect each other and depend on each other, and rely on each other's strengths that councils out their weaknesses. I like the book because it shows that you can be a hero , and still lose a fight and get the crap beat out of you, and it hurts and takes time to heal.
I have read most of Darius Brashers books now and must say the Truman Lord is a fantastic character, funny, clever (not as clever as he thinks he is) and we'll written. The stories themselves are week thought out and great fun, highly recommend them.
I read the book in chapters, so as stop to breeze through it. Each chapter held enough suspense to wonder "what next". A good story. A good build up and plot.
Good series. Nice to see the characters developing. It will be interesting to see where Truman winds up. Darius they won’t let us add just a few words… :-)
