A McPhee Clan prequel. Sarah Combs loves being the town schoolteacher, but she's always dreamed of getting married and finding her own happily-ever-after. When Lucas McMillian rides into town to save the day, he wins her heart. Finally, after a lifetime of Mr. Wrongs here is her one true Mr. Right—except for one little problem. He's looking for a convenient marriage and a mother for his adorable daughter—love isn't part of the deal.
Jillian Hart grew up on her family's homestead in Washington state, where she raised cattle, rode horses and scribbled stories in her spare time. After earning her English degree from Whitman College, she worked in travel and advertising before selling her first novel. When Jillian isn't working on her next story, she can be found puttering around her rose garden, curled up with a good book and spending quiet evenings at home with her family.
This is beautiful story, a prequel to the McPhee Clan series that I loved and was happy to see another book but this book was prior to the five sisters getting to Bluebell Montana where they inherited their grandmothers ranch. This story takes place probably while the girls are preparing to come but weren’t there so not part of the story. But this story is about the daughter of on one of the cowboys who worked at the Rocky Rocking M Ranch that the McPhee girls inherited. It also has a very handsome mysterious man that shows up at the heroine’s house as she is precariously trying to climb up to her roof to get a wee kitten down that looked very scared. Our hero the mysterious man stops at her house just as she is about to fall off the porch railing, she was using to get up onto the roof. He just missed catching her but she just found herself staring up at the mans handsome face and gorgeous blue green eyes. Anyway, he was there to see her father because he had a promise to keep to his dying father. This is just the beginning of a fun, mysterious and funny story albeit a bit sad as well along the way, but, has a very happy ending. This is a very good story and I highly recommend this story and the who McPhee series. I love Ms. Harts sweet clean historical stories that just melt one’s heart every time. Get this book and the others and have a great time reading them and finding romance along with the historical things of the past. Plus, who couldn’t pass us a story about a handsome cowboy, his little girl who needs a mom, and a beautiful woman who is also a teacher and has everything about her to be a great mom and wife.
Five stars, this was a good old fashioned book..Good author..Sarah was looking for love and Lucas comes along having been hurt in the past..But with his daughter and Sarah's father, he decides to propose..She accepts wanting him to overcome his fear and love again..Which he does, good ending.
Delightful story with a lot of humor, love, and friendship. I feel the Author should have closed the part in the story on how Sarah was able to move and leave her father .
My Heart to Keep by Jillian Hart Prequel to McPhee Clan Series Sarah Combs was sadly excepting that she would most likely be a spinster. As she watched the different men in her town, none of them seemed to be Mr. Right. And then a tall, dark stranger on a black steed entered her life...to save a kitty. Her heart was gone...but so was his. Just not in the same way.
Lucas McMillian knew his daughter wanted a ma. He also knew that Sarah would be the perfect woman to fit that slot. Only problem with getting his daughter a ma was that he'd end up with a wife. Been there, done that, had the scars to prove it. Could a tender-hearted woman like Sarah accept a marriage of convenience?
Back to McPhee land...before the McPhee girls show up. The Rocking M Ranch staff are still up in the air what will happen to their ranch...and their livelihood. Sarah's dad is Burton, one of the older ranch hands. Loved this story and as always...keep the tissues nearby. http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
This is the first book I read by this Author. I wasn't too sure if I'd like this book or be able to get through all of it because the wild west does not thrill me but romance does. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this book and, amazingly, I was able to read the entire book which is hard for me to do anymore. The characters in the book kept my focus and urged me to read on to find out what happens to the main couple in the story. This book was an easy read and it had a good pace to it. The addition of extra characters in the book didn't take away from the main story and they added to the character of the town the Author created. I enjoyed this book enough that I purchased two more from this same author and am looking forward to reading these, as well. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a light-hearted, sweet romance.
A great story about love changing lives. Lucas was hurt by the rejection he felt from his wife. After she died he vowed to never love again. Marriage just wasn't worth the heartache. He's promised his daughter Molly that he would get her a mother though and Molly has set her heart on Sarah Sarah has given up on the hope of marriage so when Lucas comes along and explains his situation, she agrees to marry him. But then she falls in love, and Lucas decides she deserves more than a loveless marriage. The ending of the story was a bit of a surprise. I enjoyed this prequel to the McPhee Clan.
Captivating story line that will keep you turning the page time after time. The way the story moves along you can't help but feel transported into the book as if your seeing the characters right before your eyes. The love that you feel between Lucas and Sarah is so powerful even if one of them fights the attraction to the other. The character are real and the way it reads is so wonderful.
I love well written love stories set in the Old West. It was surprising that Lucus and Sarah believed that they could be only friends when they were so drawn to each other. The love they both felt for his daughter was bound to bring them together. Loved the happy ending. There could have been a sexy love scene.
I have Read The McPherson Can Series. But never read this Story. This was A Real Good One, Along with all the others I have read. A Very Good Writer. I have enjoyed all of her Books
It was good to finally read the story about Sarah and Lucas. I loved how the love of Lucas daughter was incorporated into the storyline. I enjoyed this love story. Jillian Hart is one of my favorite author.
I struggled to finish this book. The characters weren't very well developed and the story was just all over the place. Too much of how perfect, handsome, good looking, spectacular the h was. The story felt too modern, not very historical at all.
A sweet read. Really enjoyed seeing these two on their journey together. What started out as an engagement of convenience could possibly break Sarah heart. Through her selflessness and devotion can she break through Lucas ' heartache and self induced walls to gain his heart also?
A lovely school teacher, a spinster, meets a man that comes to visit her father. They agree to marry, a mother for his daughter and a marriage of convenience .
