I was lucky to see Candy perform live at Woodford Folk Festival in 2014, and as someone who is generally not a fan of spoken-word poetry Candy completely sold me on her words and stories.
The energy and power felt in those performances emanates throughout this collection, she is fierce and delicate and sharp and vulnerable. I'm glad I've finally read this, after sitting far too long on my bookshelf.
Candy Royalle is one of the most important voices in Australian poetry. Her writing is everything that poetry should strive to be: poignant, present, necessary and endlessly evocative.
Her exploration of contemporary social issues are passionate, but never preaching. Her exploration and explanation of the self and personal desire are moving and insightful, but never self-indulgent.
