A contest to determine whether there is life after death pits Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle against each other in a battle of rhetoric and wit
William Shatner is the author of nine Star Trek novels, including the New York Times bestsellers The Ashes of Eden and The Return. He is also the author of several nonfiction books, including Get a Life! and I'm Working on That. In addition to his role as Captain James T. Kirk, he stars as Denny Crane in the hit television series from David E. Kelley, Boston Legal -- a role for which he has won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
A surprisingly good and captivating read from William Shatner. It's a fascinating fictional tale of two very famous men and their exploits into the world of spiritualism. Is there life after death or not? Sir Arthur Conan Doyle believes there is, Harry Houdini does not! And so begins the challenge of their lives as each man sets out to disprove the other of their extremely personal beliefs in a very public arena. This, what if, tale makes for a rather scintillating opportunity to peek into an alternative and imaginary history for both these interesting men. Recommended.
William Shatner as an author? I couldn't believe it either but....I have read a few of his novels over the years and they were no better or no worse than a lot of pulp fiction out there. This isn't his best work yet the concept is worth investigating - A competition between Harry Houdidni and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to prove or disprove the afterlife. Has more than a few excellent scenes that carried the book through some dull patches.
