It's a very nice looking book- designed well, colorful and eye-grabbing! The "voice" of the author is clear also. This is an easy-to-follow book.
The book is well rounded-presentation of many methods are shown, simply and easily. Yes, the Make will need to practice techniques_that's like any other skills
Even though I"m gluten- and casein-free, this book still works. It's mostly about coloring cakes, inside and out (both cake batter and frosting).
Unlike other books on this topic, there are SO many examples, I'll probably never get an opportunity to use them all. But I'll certainly try!
Some of the instruction is using the old buttercream frosting tricks--flower making, smooth surface forming, etc. But a lot of it is using fondant… I think that will be closer to how such things work with clay, which is where my experience is.
There's painting; dusting patterns; coloring cake and frosting with frosting dyes; making tilter cakes (and other 3D forms); piping skills.
Cake examples are detailed out, 18 in total; special occasion, along with plenty of cupcake and cake pop ideas.
According to the back cover, there are "hundreds of fun and easy cake decorating ideas and techniques" in this book to inspire even the most unskilled cake maker.
I doubt I'll need any more than that. I can't wait to get started!
The priceless part of this book though, is the equivalency table in the back. How much cake batter is needed for just about any size of cake pan, from 5" to 14" pans, and low long to bake them too! There are basic cake recipes, for flavoring and coloring. The amounts may see small but recipes to make for your size pan (2x, 4x, etc.)
