Kevin O'Brien lived alone in a remote part of Ireland, preferring to deal with the tragic, accidental, death of his wife, Mary, in his own way, in his own time. He had distanced himself from his brother-in-law, John, due to their different views surrounding Mary's death. However, when unexplainable events began to unfold, the O'Neill's, John's parents, dark secret unravelled, revealing a terrifying truth: Mary's death may not have been so accidental after all. As more people succumb to horrific deaths in the area, Irish folklore becomes a reality. This is a story of how your beliefs can be changed by what you see, hear, and feel, and sometimes what you don't. What if the stories are true?
Chris lives in County Wicklow, Ireland and has been writing horror and supernatural pieces for a number of years. Folklore, based on Irish lore, was his first release and it quickly became an international best seller and continues to remain high on the best sellers list. Folklore was followed by his hugely successful second novel All Shall Suffer. Chris was also involved in a Horror Anthology, which published his short story Lambs to the Slaughter. Chris then released The Legend of Loftus Hall, which also quickly reached the top 100, followed by his next titles 13 Dead and Folklore: The Second Tale, both also ranking high in their categories. Chris then released Within Their Screams. He latest title Folklore: The Third Tale is available now.
With a huge fascination of the horror genre, Chris is continuing to build his catalogue to help put him firmly on the map in the world of horror.
A Chilling, Gripping Tale That Echoes in the Bones
Chris Rush has done it again. Folklore: The Third Tale is a dark, atmospheric journey into the heart of rural Ireland, where secrets are buried deeper than the graves and evil wears a human face.
From the very first page, I was pulled into the eerie village of Coolgreany—a place forgotten by the world but haunted by something that refuses to die. The writing is crisp and cinematic, painting a world soaked in dread and suspicion. The character of Robert Kavanagh is especially haunting, both charismatic and terrifying, and as the villagers’ desperation grows, so does the creeping sense that no one is safe—not even from themselves.
What sets Chris apart is his ability to intertwine local Irish folklore with a visceral, modern horror that feels timeless. This isn’t just a book; it’s a legend in the making. The moral questions, the atmosphere, the slow, suffocating build of tension—everything hits the mark.
If you’re a fan of folklore-infused horror, sinister small-town secrets, and stories that leave you questioning humanity more than the monsters, Folklore: The Third Tale belongs on your shelf.
Chris Rush is a name horror lovers need to know. I can’t wait to see what darkness he conjures next.
Folklore is uncensored and scary. There is no fancy prose, but it’s the kind of book that strikes fear in to the heart of the reader, exactly what I look for in my horror.

The depiction of the characters made them feel real to me and I felt real fear for them. This is definitely a book that will come creeping in to your head late at night and have you hearing noises.
Isolation of country life and death of loved ones play a key part in the book, taking the terror level up yet another notch. The imagery in this book is dark, visceral and sometimes gory. I could see, feel and hear the Banshee in all her viciousness. The death scenes played out just like a horror movie and I loved that.
It will come as no surprise that I loved the banshee and Irish folklore aspect of the book. The author has brought the Bean Sidhe into the twenty-first century with a truly evil slant.
I look forward to reading and being terrified by Chris Rush’s other books!
Some of the writing was atrocious and didn't make sense. The story ended abruptly like the author had no where else to go with it. Don't think I will read anymore from this author.
Great read for those into horror. Unnerving and creepy.
Really enjoyed this. Looking forward to other Rush books. This one ‘Folklore’ really put the creeps on the reader at night. If you hear the banshee as you read this, you know you’re in deep shit. 😀
"This is a story of how your beliefs can be changed by what you see, hear and feel and sometimes what you don't..... What if the stories are true??"
This is the 1st book Chris released, the 2nd book of his I have read and I have kindly been gifted the second of the Folklore books which I will be reading soon!
In short this is a story about the Banshee, an Irish legend I love, I will never pick up a comb from the ground... just incase 😅😅 If you like horror you will enjoy this story. I found the characters really well written and was drawn into their grief from the start. Plenty of blood and gore so not for the faint hearted. I don't scare easily but there are plenty of creepy scenes so maybe not one to read before bed especially if you hear the floor creak in the dark!!! I couldn't put it down, was a quick enjoyable read for me.
For an up and coming author that knows how to write gore/horror i suggest you check out Chris's books and this is a great one to start with! On a side note I think with a better editor/publisher these could easily be 5 star read.
I love a good horror story. Unfortunately this didn't fit the bill. Although the premise was good, the story felt rushed, and the grammatical and spelling errors made it painful to read.
