old hambone actor absconds w/ a nylon dragon suit but who's wearing whom here? samson swanlord (hambone referenced supra) swans his way thru a foggy bardo peopled seemingly w/ splintered, refracted samsonses: a friendly bus station thief, an aspiring houdini, a talking bug. if you like the coma eps of sopranos, this is for you. i'm prob making it sound heavy but that couldn't be further from the truth: it doesn't end so much as dissolve or drift away like a balloon. be sure to keep a copy on you if you ever go roaming the countryside in a stolen golden dragon suit. couldn't hurt right?

A Dragon’s Life is a very interesting novel. I laughed, cried, and smiled while reading it. The novel tells the story of a poor, lonely middle-aged man named Samson Swanlord who is trying his best to prove himself as an actor, but opportunities do not come to him until one day he decides to steal a golden dragon costume and escape from his old life. The novel talks about a man who wants to depart away from noise and go somewhere calm in order to find himself because he is unable to find himself in noisy places. The novel talks about the feeling of loss, loneliness, and the desire to find compassion and love with others.
I also read the novel All the Little Animals by Walker Hamilton, and it was a very beautiful novel. I cried while reading it, and I again cried while reading his second novel, A Dragon’s Life. It is clear from the author’s writing that he admires animals and refuses to hurt them and loves to be kind to them, I love how the author and I have that in common. I felt the delicate and gentle feelings of the author Walker Hamilton in his writings, and he has become one of my favourite writers I have come across in my life ❤️
I did read this because my friend Ron seems to want to marry this book, and I figured if I could find a copy of this hard to find in the US book, that I should read it.
I didn't love it as much as he did, but I did find it to be an interesting story. Not quite like other stories, it's lonesome at times and reflects a lot on life itself. It made me wonder what I was doing with my own life while reading it.
I liked parts of it, how the main character spoke of himself and took pride in wearing his dragon suit. I think it falls a little short of my expectations though. I was hoping for more adventures but maybe I just idealized it and the point was that being on the road and having adventures isn't really all its chalked up to be.
A Dragons Life is a wonderful little book, Walker Hamilton creates a character "Samson Swanlord" that is easily connected with thru the insecurities and inadequacy we all feel within ourselves at times. When he sets off on his quest in the dragon suit he is ready to give it all up, content at living meal to meal and cigarette to cigarette. He survives on the merit of the colorful strangers he meets along the way and learns to love the person he is. Reading this book I found myself laughing out loud countless times and wishing I too could live a dragons life, if only for a little while!
