For All Who Love the Game: Lessons and Teachings for Women

Rate this book
EVERY WOMAN CAN PLAY GREAT GOLF
Known in the world of golf as one of the game's greatest teachers, Harvey Penick worked with U.S. Open winners, great champions, and five out of the thirteen women who are members of the LPGA Hall of Fame. Mickey Wright, Sandra Palmer, Betsy Rawls, Kathy Whitworth, Judy Rankin, and Betty Jameson all had the privilege and honor of working with Penick. While he was proud of their success and achievements, Penick took just as much pleasure from the accomplishments of the countless women who came to him hoping only to be able to hit a ball in the air for the very first time.
In For All Who Love the Game, Harvey shares the lessons he's learned from female techniques to help women gain greater physical and psychological power, advice on the perfect swing, and tips for developing areas of the game where women can and should outplay their male counterparts. Interwoven with Penick's ever-present blend of common sense and insight, For All Who Love the Game is a gift to every woman who wants to enjoy the game of golf to its fullest.

“Every woman can play great golf!” Harvey Penick coached some of the most talented female and male golfers. Author of several golf books, the legendary Penick became familiar with golf as a child in Texas. His stories of inspiration, wit, and wisdom include the obstacles and accomplishments of golfers. As a caddy, golfer, and professional instructor, Harvey simplified the technicalities of the sport for his pupils who achieved success and won championships.

In For All Who Love the Game, Penick shares interviews, lessons, experiences, and relationships. “The day I stop learning is the day I will quit teaching” is typical of Harvey’s humble approach to the game. He did not boast his record scores and occasionally offered complimentary lessons. The strategies, insight, common sense, and belief that “women want to learn” positively impacted the lessons he learned. Penick was especially proud of five women he worked with who were hallowed in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Hall of Fame and other accomplished golfers.

Penick’s listening skills, observation techniques, and vision guided golfers for decades. His advice on the perfect stance, optimum swing, and to “learn a basic shot to avoid a fancy shot” built confidence. Penick professed, “Women can and should outplay their male counterparts.” Perfect for any coffee table, the reader will be motivated by these memorable short stories of those who made golf remarkable.

It’s was good advice for its time. A little political and faith references that I didn’t love, but overall, I plan to use some techniques and advice.

I LOVE this book. When I start to struggle with a certain aspect of my game, I pull out this book and read. There are so many quick tips for getting back in the correct swing of things! Mr. Penick's Red and Green books are helpful as well!
