Reasonably well-balanced with strong archaeological content. His conservative bias is controlled: he talks about the discoveries at Ras Shamra's improving our understanding of Canaanite religion, with no mention of its improving our understanding Israelite religion. Doesn't want the foundations of Christianity to get too close to paganism.

I found it very useful for learining about Israel's neighbors.

Get ready to be talked down to like a complete idiot.
