Penelope Jones Halsall
aka Caroline Courtney, Annie Groves, Lydia Hitchcock, Melinda Wright

Penelope "Penny" Jones was born on November 24, 1946 at about seven pounds in a nursing home in Preston, Lancashire, England. She was the first child of Anthony Winn Jones, an engineer, who died at 85, and his wife Margaret Louise Groves Jones. She has a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Prudence "Pru".

She had been a keen reader from the childhood - her mother used to leave her in the children's section of their local library whilst she changed her father's library books. She was a storyteller long before she began to write romantic fiction. At the age of eight, she was creating serialized bedtime stories, featuring make-believe adventures, for her younger sister Prue, who was always the heroine. At eleven, she fell in love with Mills & Boon, and with their heroes. In those days the books could only be obtained via private lending libraries, and she quickly became a devoted fan; she was thrilled to bits when the books went on full sale in shops and she could have them for keeps.

Penny left grammar school in Rochdale with O-Levels in English Language, English Literature and Geography. She first discovered Mills & Boon books, via a girl she worked with. She married Steve Halsall, an accountant and a "lovely man", who smoked and drank too heavily, and suffered oral cancer with bravery and dignity. Her husband bought her the small electric typewriter on which she typed her first novels, at a time when he could ill afford it. He died at the beginning of 21st century.

She earned a living as a writer since the 1970s when, as a shorthand typist, she entered a competition run by the Romantic Novelists' Association. Although she didn't win, Penny found an agent who was looking for a new Georgette Heyer. She published four regency novels as Caroline Courtney, before changing her nom de plume to Melinda Wright for three air-hostess romps and then she wrote two thrillers as Lydia Hitchcock. Soon after that, Mills and Boon accepted her first novel for them, Falcon's Prey as Penny Jordan. However, for her more historical romance novels, she adopted her mother's maiden-name to become Annie Groves. Almost 70 of her 167 Mills and Boon novels have been sold worldwide.

Penny Halsall lived in a neo-Georgian house in Nantwich, Cheshire, with her Alsatian Sheba and cat Posh. She worked from home, in her kitchen, surrounded by her pets, and welcomed interruptions from her friends and family.

Katie thinks she is in love with her sister's husband. That is until she meets her sexy neighbor Seb. He is 15 years her senior, divorced and a father. She is virginal and blind and in denial about her true feelings. I loved how she came to realize her love for Gareth was a fantasy and how Seb is the love of her love. Great romantic read.

Sadly, I can't use my Penny-Jordan-hates-women take here as the hero is very un-PJ. He's arrogant but doesn't twist any arms or force seduction.

This is the eighth or something in a family drama, and it shows. There was a part in the first or second chapter where PJ updates and connects a whole slew of people together. It was a biblical moment or very Russian fiction that had me skimming at the speed of light.

The H and h meet when he almost hits her with his Mercedes. He fumes; she gives him the stink-eye. They meet again later at an updated Edwardian condo they want to buy making them neighbors. The backdrop is the h came home to this charming yet still large village as her married London boss put the moves on her and then started to make things nasty when it turned out she has morals. The deeper backstory is she is in love with her twin's beta husband. Guess who's not too beta? The H has moved back to his hometown. His backstory is he was married when young and stupid. He hasn't seen his ex and child and is trying to make up for being a terrible dad. No drama there. No. Really. None. His deeper backstory comes from the fact that he comes from a large family with, hold on to your hats, gypsy blood that pops up in the men. The men in the family are born big and dark and with a twinkle in their eye even when they don't.

The H and h keep getting thrown together despite animosity between them. The h finally tells her twin they have a thing just so her twin won't find out that the h has a thing for her twin sis' husband. Twin sis can't keep her mouth shut so rumors run like wildfire and the H hears he is practically engaged to this chick when he comes back from a business trip. He confronts her and does what any sane man does, punishes her with kissing. Our little virgin essentially says what the heck boy, and steamy sex ensues.

Boring.

I was a little shocked when I read the publication date as the reads more like a 70s Harlequin than one written in 2000. Again, social class and expectations play a huge role here.

I thought this was romantic. Typical of the genre, it contained good doses of sexual tension and angst.

Katie and Sebastian do not like each other when they first meet, but it's all bark and no bite. They're just trying really, really hard to fight their attraction for each other. They both have reasons for their hesitancy.

Sebastian is divorced. He married young and is in no hurry to marry again, if at all. He's a bit older than Katie too, late thirties to her twenty-something. Katie is quiet, unassuming and to her shame, a virgin (gasp). LOL. She has also always felt inferior to her more extroverted and confident twin, Louise. Not only that, but she's been carrying a torch for an unavailable man.

I liked how the author didn't have Katie moping over the other man. Her secret feelings are just that, a secret and kept quiet. After more interaction with the sexy Sebastien though, Katie realizes her feelings for the other man were just an infatuation. I enjoyed witnessing both protagonists coming to terms with their true feelings for each other and finding "a perfect night" (and beginning) with each other.

For Louise'story, read The Perfect Lover which I rated 4.5 stars.

Hero is a sexy and hot father of a sixteen year old. There are many pages of his regrets about completely neglecting her in her growing up years .. he got married at 22 and divorced at 24. The child grew with mother and step father. A happy child. The mother preferred it that way.

Ok. The hero is one of the infamous Cooke’s who are almost outcasts in the village/town. They are swarming the place with their black hair and their stealing habits and habits of producing illegitimate children.

I rather thought that was a bit prejudiced of the author.

Some lonnnng ago Romany ancestor impregnated a local girl. Now his super dominating criminal genes manifest in the Cookes. They are all very macho men who people are very wary of. The women are a bit fey.

Even then the matriarch of the Crichton clan had an antiques shop with a Cooke. Who has his own book.
As does the matriarch.

Anyway the hero moved to the town because his daughter is studying close by at boarding school

The heroine is nursing her broken heart over a man her twin married.

Anyway. The two meet. There is superhuman chemistry. Across the road.

They are magnetically dragged towards each other and start kissing and making out when they see each other. Next time they meet.

A Cooke psychic woman predicts their unborn son on the third meeting.

A false rumour accidentally starts that they are in a relationship.

Then they sleep with each other.

The heroine realises her crush was nothing.

The hero is where it’s at.

Happy ever after with more progeny on the way.

That’s my review.

Düşündüğümden kısa sürdü hikaye aslında.Birbirlerine duydukları çekim ilginçti aslında.Kitapta her iki tarafın düşüncelerine yer verilmesi hoşuma gitti.Seb'in kızını çok sevdim :D Babasıyla konuşmaları yokmu?

O nome do galã: Sebastian.
