Carl Gustav Jung (/jʊŋ/; German: [ˈkarl ˈɡʊstaf jʊŋ]), often referred to as C. G. Jung, was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical psychology. Jung proposed and developed the concepts of extraversion and introversion; archetypes, and the collective unconscious. His work has been influential in psychiatry and in the study of religion, philosophy, archeology, anthropology, literature, and related fields. He was a prolific writer, many of whose works were not published until after his death.

The central concept of analytical psychology is individuation—the psychological process of integrating the opposites, including the conscious with the unconscious, while still maintaining their relative autonomy. Jung considered individuation to be the central process of human development.

Jung created some of the best known psychological concepts, including the archetype, the collective unconscious, the complex, and synchronicity. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a popular psychometric instrument, has been developed from Jung's theory of psychological types.

Though he was a practising clinician and considered himself to be a scientist, much of his life's work was spent exploring tangential areas such as Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy, astrology, and sociology, as well as literature and the arts. Jung's interest in philosophy and the occult led many to view him as a mystic, although his ambition was to be seen as a man of science. His influence on popular psychology, the "psychologization of religion", spirituality and the New Age movement has been immense.

"Essai d'exploration de l'inconscient" a les grandes mérites d'être bref et claire. Écrit quelques mois avant sa mort, il a aussi peut-être une troisième mérite de représenter les idées définitives de Jung sur les sujets abordés. Néanmoins ce petit livre laisse le lecteur sur sa faim. Bien des concepts majeures de Jung ne sont pas traités.
D'après Jung chaque être humaine a deux personnalités. La personnalité consciente qui se veut rationnelle doit s'accorder avec la personnalité inconsciente qui fonctionne sur un système différent. L'inconscient se sert des archétypes qui vient de la culture de l'individu, des symboles qui sont de provenances diverses, et des expériences de vie l'individu. L'essentiel c'est que l'individu choisit ses archétypes et donne ses propres sens aux symboles. Donc, un symbole tel qu'un taureau a un sens pour un individu et un autre sens chez un autre. Jung insiste que Freud avait tort de penser qu'un symbole avait un sens universel que l'on pouvait appliquer à tout le monde. Par conséquence, le travail de l'analyste était plus long pour Jung parce que l'on devait d'abord créer le système inconscient de chaque individu.
Aussi Jung critique Freud sévèrement d'avoir donner trop d'importances à la pulsion sexuelle comme le facteur déterminant dans la personnalité inconsciente. "La psyché inconsciente est devenue chez Freud un dépôt à ordures morales." (p 181)

Essai d'exploration de l'inconscient est le dernier écrit que Jung léguera à l'humanité avant sa mort et il est de loin le plus accessible et le plus synthétique de son oeuvre.

Dans cet ultime ouvrage, Jung nous offre une synthèse d'une de ses plus importantes contributions aux champs de la psychologie et de la psychanalyse, soit une théorie du rêve et de l'inconscient qui s'émancipe des carcans du matérialisme.

C'est un excellent ouvrage comme porte d'entrée à la psychologie jungienne.

Excellente Introduction aux théories Jungiennes redigées par Jung lui-même pour le grand public quelques années avant sa mort suite à la demande de "John Freeman" après l'avoir interviewé dans sa célèbre émission "Face to Face", l'une des émissions phares de la chaîne BBC, dans le temps. A conseiller à quiconque interessé par les découvertes de ce polymathe et qui ne sait pas par lequel de ses livres commencer.

It possibly doesn't satisfy ones having an interest in things related to the subconscious or the unconscious. Nevertheless, this book is a mesmerizing one for you in the very beginning of exploring the unconscious within yourself.

First part of Man And His Symbols. Can't pretend I understand everything, even after reading this twice, but it served as a fairly accessible introduction to Jung for my first foray into the man's thought
