Nineteen-year-old Makayla Dawson wants one thing: to find the mother who abandoned her as a baby, leaving nothing but an engraved heart pendant.
But she's not looking for a happy and tearful reunion.
After a life of pain, loneliness and neglect, Makayla wants revenge.
Her search leads her to Robin Jones, but she’s nothing like the monster Makayla imagined. While pursuing her mission to destroy Robin’s life, Makayla comes to know, and even love her.
But by the time she realizes her mistake, her plan for payback has already been set in motion, leaving Makayla helpless to stop it.
With disaster looming, Makayla needs help. The kind only God can give. What she doesn't realize is, she's going to need Him for a lot more than that.
Because Robin's life isn't the only one about to be blown to pieces. There's a secret Makayla doesn't know. A secret worse than anything she experienced in her past. A secret that will change her life forever.
Makayla's angered search for her birth mother exposed more information than she could have ever imagined. I enjoyed this layered filled story that revealed secrets like Pandora's box. While Makaya's past was harsh, once she learned acceptance her life was turned around. Good characters & situations made this a deep read to the beginning of the series
I was curious to read this book after reading the Langston sister's series. I also enjoyed this offering although for me, the story does not flow as well as the other series. There are some slow moments but the story helps you overlook this. Still this is a good story of a young woman's quest to find the mother that she thought abandoned her. What she learns along the way is surprising and heartbreaking. The author has a gift for writing both in character development and story telling. Again the blending of Christian life and faith is just right, thoughtful and not overwhelming. Great book club read.
Brokenness is the path to blessings. Before God can use us, He must break us. We have to move out of the way and let God do what is to be done. So often we think the problem is out there, but its definitely the image in the mirror and nothing will change until we let go and allow God to fix it. That means allowing God to break through our brokenness. When you meet Makayla revenge is what's driving her, however after meeting several characters things change for her. The relationships truly blessed me in more ways than one. This is my first Bowman read and it won't be my last, Pam V thank you for recommending this author to me & my book club.
I enjoyed the story. Makayla starts out looking for her birth mother but instead ends up with a family that truly loves her. Just when I predicted a happy ending there was a twist that kept me reading.
I have laughed & cried so many times during this great & uplifting read! What makes the institution of family??! L-O-V-E...sacrifice and love! My heart, mind and eyes are gonna take a break...tired of these late night readings...lol. Just couldn't put this book down! This is an awesome story of forgiveness, love, sacrifice & work. Makayla was a real piece of work but God. He kept the hearts of his people encouraged & strengthened awaiting her sweet return...lol. God surely knows how to dot every "i" and cross every "t". Thanks for the inspiration & entertainment LaShonda Bowman
Lashonda you written a great story. I enjoyed the messages about a family is not just by blood but it is by faith and friendship you have. I myself have so many godchildren cause they want me to be in their lives. They are at all ages especially my sons ages. They have been through some trials and tribulations but I was there for them. My sons say they that mom you are the greatest and my godchildren to this day always call and come and see me. Glory to God for this book. I will be following you on Amazon and Goodreads.
I normally read these books in twenty-four hours or less giving time for snacks, phone etc but took me three day's to read this book because I had to keep going back and forward trying put together what the author setting and characters settings when Makil left bus station what change her mind. I really enjoyed this book, I could see this really happening. Also the characters are believable, I was impressed with how Robin lived right but made it known that is was through grow and experience not that she got saved and was all of a sudden holy. Looking forward to book 2.
I have really enjoyed this series! I wasn't expecting it to turn out the way it did and that's what I loved so much about it. It's not predictable. I'm patiently waiting for Pastor Thomas story.
Great story can't wait to read the next book I'm truly enjoying your writing this was great and left me wanting more.one keep up the good work I love the Story line and all the Bible verses.
Amazing saga of God's Grace and Mercy! He loves us so much that He involves Himself in even what we feel are the most minute details of our lives. He has it all under control!
Very good book. It is amazing to see how past hurt and misunderstandings can cause us so much hurt and confusions in our lives and make us want to hurt other around us.
I loved the book and the realness of the characters.
I think I felt every single emotion possible reading this book. It all seemed to be so real almost like I could actually feel the pain, the hurt but definitely the LOVE I am truly looking forward to book #2. Actually excited about reading it.
This book was soooo fantastic I loved every moment of it. I read it in 1 day. MAY God truly BLESS you. It was so clean and so well or excellently written. Now to book 2. God Bless
I love reading Robins story but I was hoping Makayla was her child but the storyline was great. I would love to read how their relationship forms and if Robin and Marcus get together.
This book was so good and had such unexpected turns. I thought it would just be about Makayla’s search for her mother, but it was so much more. Scripture and good gems were all throughout the book, but not overpowering like some Christian fiction can be. I’m looking forward to this series!
