Men Out of Uniform #5

The Hell-Raiser

Rate this book
Sarah Jane Walker was ready to kiss her inheritance goodbye once her greedy stepmother hired security expert Mick Chivers—aka the Hell-Raiser. Sexy Mick was bound to figure out that his new assignment wasn't above breaking a few rules—or laws—in her desperate plan to recover her family legacy. Yet even with the cell door practically slamming, Sarah's knees felt like jelly whenever she looked into Mick's old-soul eyes.

Those baby-blues told her the daredevil was a law unto himself. They said he'd overcome incredible odds to win.

And they dared the smart-mouthed Southern belle to take her best shot—and raise a little hell with him!

This book was kind of disappointing. Not that it was bad, but it failed to deliver. I guess it all comes to expectations. Harlequin Blaze novels are supposed to be quick and hot reads, right? Well, The Hell-Raiser was quick but not as hot as I expected.

I also thought that Mick, the hero, was too hesitant and insecure about himself, and that didn't work for me. In the end, the so-called "mistake" that prompted him to leave the Army wasn't devastating enough to make me buy all the guilt he felt, so I couldn't even commiserate with him.

Sarah Jane, the heroine, was OK but her name annoyed the heck out of me. Why did they have to use both names? Why not call her simply Sarah? Or Jane? And why am I complaining about her name? Probably because the story didn't catch all my attention as it should have, LOL.

Wow, each book is better than the last one, I would recommend this book, and series for mature adults that enjoy stories that are funny, steamy, and romantic.

Mick is a man in transition from being an Army Ranger to trying to find where his next job is. He is struggling with a decision he made that almost cost a man his life. He is tasked to “spy” on a gal who got pushed out of a will.
Enter Sarah Jane. She is a gal who salvages pieces from old homes before they are torn down.
The chemistry between the two is off the charts. Mick soon realizes that he is on the wrong side of the story.

The story was good, but the ending had me rolling my eyes. How do men who are so afraid of commitment manage to marry and impregnate their women within a year of meeting them? Too far-fetched even for my standards!
