I read an outstanding book earlier this year that impressed me so much, I have convinced several others to purchase it, including the clerk at the organization that sells the books for the author. Published by Focus on the Family, the book “Faith Training: Raising Kids Who Love the Lord” is by Dr. Joe White, who runs eight Christian youth camps in Missouri and Colorado, and believes, “Christianity, like kindness, is more caught than taught.” He is a featured guest and speaker at Promise Keepers each year I’ve been, and the man has a passion for the Lord, and a passion for leading kids to the Lord, that is contagious. “The most important things parents can give kids are roots and wings,” says White. This book is a guide for rooting your children in our faith, and convinces the reader of the importance of guiding our kids away from the traps and temptations of modern culture, and gives practical help. “The common denominator of solid kids is at least one parent (hopefully two) who takes biblical education at home seriously and threads it into a lifestyle that is winsome, positive, and enthusiastic,” says White. “Faith Training” provides numerous tips and tools, devotions, reading suggestions, current issues as addressed in the Bible, and strategies for helping cultivate your child’s love for Christ at any age. The church library has this book available for checkout, and you may also purchase this book used on amazon.com for under $5, including shipping.
