Jane Austen referred to Pride and Prejudice (1813), the earliest of her published novels, as her “darling child”—and generations of readers have taken it to heart ever since. The irresistible attraction she portrays between the sparkly, independent Elizabeth Bennet and the solemnly austere Mr. Darcy counts among the greatest, most romantic—and funniest—love stories ever told. In this graphic-novel adaptation, writer Ian Edginton and artist Robert Deas introduce one of the best-loved works of English literature to a new generation of readers.
Reading this graphic novel feels cozy and familiar; everything you’d expect and recognize from P&P. There are some striking similarities between this adaptation and both the 1995 and 2005 film versions, but that didn’t deter me. I picked up this book expecting it to be exactly what it is; a graphic novel version of a beloved story. Would recommend it to other P&P fans, Austen enthusiasts, and those looking to catch a glimpse of the true gem that is the original.
3.5-4 This was cute. Got it from the library on a whim. It isn't long enough to get into all of the details, but all of the major plot points are covered. Felt a little slower in the beginning, then went a little too quickly post Pemberley. The art is good, it's a shame the cover isn't uploaded on Goodreads.
Excellent!!! A short, convenient, and easy to read version of Pride and Prejudice with brilliant artwork. A great choice for those of us who don't have enough time to read Austen's full-length masterpiece or readers who simply wish to revisit the most memorable scenes of the book without having to reread the entire novel.
A really well done graphic novel adaptation of the story. It all flowed really well and I didn’t feel like I was missing much from the novel. I also really liked the art style and the colors that were chosen.
As this is one of my more favored Jane Austen novels, I really quite loved this read. It captivated me and made me laugh when it needed to, as I know the story well. The artistic style was fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.
First of all, I had to add this book in to Goodreads cause it was non-existent. And then the picture wouldn't work!! Ugh. Anyway, the book. I love the drawing style, and I love the colors. I loved the movie(the older one), the actual book, was pretty good, but after awhile, I've come to realize how silly the plot of this book is. Maybe I should go read a rip-off(zombies anybody?) It's boring. I'm sorry. But that's the truth. Oh well. I've never been a classics fan any way. Happy reading!
This wasn't great. Don't get me wrong, I love a good P&P adaptation, but this literally felt like someone watched a movie version and said, "This would make a great graphic novel. Let me transcribe random lines and put them to illustrations." I didn't really love the artwork and the plot dragged at first then went way too fast at the end. I just really wish they had done their own take on it as opposed to something so straightforward and bland.
12+ I don't think there's anything too scandalous in here. It talks about arranging marriages, (and possibly drinking?)
This graphic novel was so good! If you love Pride and Prejudice like I do than it does not matter how it is presented; it always hits just right. The illustrations are amazing and aren't to colorful, giving it the historical feel, while not being dull. I think that as far as books being turned into graphic novels, this is one of my favorites!
