I’M A GIRL?! Newly awakened from a vision of the farthest future and reeling from the ramifications of what he saw, Fuuta is at risk of losing himself completely to the identities of his past lives. Rune has taken it upon herself to make sure he doesn’t fall off the wagon. Yet only two lives remain before Fuuta has seen his entire spirit’s journey. Grasping their spirit circles in hand, Fuuta and Kouko journey forth again, and find themselves in a situation they never expected...they’re gender-swapped!
This is the most flawed volume of the series. It's still very good tho.
On one hand, we are rushed through Fuuta's final reincarnation before Fortuna. The gender swap is just a gimmick and really this whole arc is the worst I have read until now. It really is dog shit in that it is such an exposition dump and it doesn't even bother to be entertaining or anything. Things look up though as the discussion of this life ends and we go to Fortuna.
Fortuna has amazing writing backup to him. It's tough to sympathise with a prick like this but I almost did. At the very least, you realise both of them have very well structured thought processes to be doing what they are. When Fortuna says that East has subjective more value to him than 20 thousand other lives, that is just a fact. This whole affair was sad. We're at a point where I expect tragedy from every story and while this didn't move me, it did deliver on the grand finale and reveal we have been waiting for. Like a good story, you can support either one of them or both and you'd actually have valid reasons to.
Fortuna, you didn't have to go down this path man.
PS also Fuuta's jealous bro is named Flambe here and idk why but that name just makes SQUEALL.
I was disappointed that Fuuta's final reincarnation is rushed through to give maximum space to Fortuna's back story. The gender swap was a throwaway gimmick, rather than a thought out storytelling device.
The second to last reincarnation was rushed, little more than a gender swap gimmick. A good half of the book was part, but not all, Fortuna's story. That was worth the wait, at least so far. Looking forward to seeing how the last volume ties everything up.
