Buchanan House #1.5

Pride Weekend

Rate this book
Buchanan Book Two

Overworked cubicle jockey Adam Byron wants to attend Oregon Coast Pride in style but the price of a room at Buchanan House, a popular gay retreat on the central coast, is beyond his budget. So he won’t miss out, he advertises online for someone to share expenses. Corporate drone Silas Grant responds to Adam’s ad, and the two get to know each other via texts before meeting at the coast. They agree on a no-pressure roommate arrangement, yet once they meet face-to-face, their attraction is undeniable. Desire might simmer well beyond Pride weekend, no matter how hard Adam and Silas try to live up to their noncommitment pact.

Ugh, ugh, ugh.
I'm not a fan of promo's taking up book space...especially when it's over 40% of the book.
Even if I loved the story (sadly, I did not) I would be annoyed.
Safe to say, I'm not interested in continuing.....

Although it was free, I was rather surprised that it ended at 58% on my kindle. Then came the excerpt of the next book.

It was a fast read, nice so far, but I would have liked a bit more story and a bit less sex. Would have been nice to see them liking each other outside of a bed as well.

A very short novella (ends at 58% followed by an excerpt from the next book) about two men who met online and share a room at the Buchanan House B&B during Pride Weekend. They meet in person, are almost instantly intrigued with one another and spend the weekend in bed together. The story quickly ends with a HFN and the promise of a continued relationship. Too short, not enough character development, but a nice little amuse bouche. 3 stars.

I knew it was a short story but I didn't expect it to end at 58%! It then includes a chapter from book 3. I did enjoy the story and am interested to read more in the series.

Other reviews mentioned insta-love, which I hate, but I think it's just vague enough that you could argue that it isn't exactly insta-love :) they're smitten and could be thinking "I could fall in love with him"... that makes it ok with me, haha.

That was rather disappointing and ended at 58%. Doesn't make me want to read that series. clearly a case of: we just don't click..

I got an ARC of this book.

This is a short story in the Buchanan House series. It doesn’t really have anything to do with the main cast as introduced in the first book, instead it just has a few guest appearances. This isn’t a bad thing, but if you were hoping for more handyman action, this is not the story for you.

This instead is just smut that happens to take place in the resort. The two characters had never met before, they had texted for about a week before the event. They agreed to share the cost of a room and that there would be no strings. The idea was very much one meant for smut and I can appreciate it for what it is. It just was not a romance plot for me. Let me be clear: good sex does not mean you are in love. Thank you.

The sex itself was pretty standard gay male romance written by a cis woman: lots of rubbing dicks together (I didn’t even make this connection myself. I was talking to my joyfriend and they pointed it out to me. The more I think about it the more I notice that pattern), no condoms for blow jobs, and the general sex causes feeling plot. There was condoms and lube used for anal sex, which always annoys me. If there are no condoms for oral there is little to no point with anal. The author clearly showed she knew what condoms were, so why weren’t they used effectively.

I am also starting to get annoyed at the author’s attempt to be diverse with bodies. The language around a slightly less than gym rat has gotten under my skin. I know how rampant body policing is in the gay male community, I don’t need it in my romances.

So if you want a nice, quick smut this might work for you. If you are looking for a romance, I wouldn’t recommend it.

I was really disappointed. I can barely overlook that it ended at slightly over the halfway point in advertised pages followed by plugs for other books; but it ends just when the story seems to pick up steam. I also found it confusing that the description stated Adam was looking for someone to share expenses with but in reality he advertised on a gay dating site and he and Silas were scewing like bunnies a few hours after meeting. The only “pride” was in the title since they never left their room. I thought it was sweet that Silas followed Adam but where the romance really started to show, the story ended. Other than that this story was about two guys who hook up and screw their way through a weekend. If this is what the others in the series are like I will not be reading them.

Firstly, I received an ARC from the author but a review was not required. Okay. I read this hot on the heels of the first book and immensely liked this one better. Adam and Silas were more animated and easier to follow (even if the author didn’t get into their heads as they did with Eric) and while shorter, it didn’t seem as rushed. I liked house some of the characters from the first book made their way into is one (Nathan) but didn’t steal the focus from the main characters.

This is the second book in The Buchanan House Series. This is a short book the writing was good. I would have liked more story and character development. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters interesting. Adam Byron and Silas Grant are the MC’s of this book. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

This is a lightweight so light that silly becomes more apt a description. There is absolutely nothing in it to hold a reader's interest.

More of a short story than a novella (and part of a series) this was an enjoyable read. The promise of romance with a stranger over a weekend getaway. A fun, quick read.

Well this was a total let down. They spent the whole weekend in bed not seeing the pride even though that's why they were at the bb. Too short not enough storyline rather boring

Buchanan House is a great venture – a fictional B&B on the Oregon Coast, set up for the LGTBQ+ crowd, and run by best friends Eric and Nathan. I loved the first book and all its characters, so what could be better than returning to these guys to see what they’re up to? Not only that, but ‘Pride Weekend’ is about two men who visit the beachfront hotel expecting a great weekend, but never having met in real life. The idea of sharing a room for cost reasons, no strings attached, sounds like a great excuse, right? Except for these two, both focused on their careers and somewhat lacking in the social skills area, it is possibly the only way they will ever be able/willing to do a hookup. Fun and games are bound to follow!

Adam and Silas are probably equally attracted to each other, but Silas is the one who decides to “go on the hunt”. With Adam being as shy as he is that is probably a good thing, or else nothing might have happened. Instead, they go from hot to hotter. They pretty much forget about all of the Pride events and parties taking place, and spend the weekend mostly in their room in an almost drunken state as they explore each other’s bodies. As fun (and exhausting) as their physical encounters are, and as much as they both secretly want more – never mind the no strings agreement – they end up going their separate ways on Sunday. At which point I went “What?!?” and, to my relief, noticed there was still a good half of the story left. And what a half it turned out to be!

If you like stories about men who think they want no attachments only to discover that, with the right guy, it might not be such a bad thing, if two office workers deciding their careers may not be their only priority any longer sound intriguing, and if you’re looking for a read that is fun, very hot, and has a beautiful happy ending, then you will probably like this free short story.

This is a very short companion to Buchanan House. It's a very quick read, and the main characters from the other books in the series only appear in the background. I found the story to be a nice compromise between a slow-bloom romance and instant love, not really fitting neatly in either category.

Adam and Silas are both likable. They're both insecure about the potential relationship, for different reasons. On the surface, they've simply agreed to room-share so they can enjoy their Pride weekend vacation. It's clear, though, that both of them are hoping for a hook-up. Naturally, that's exactly what happens, and it's lovely and steamy.

I'm not usually a huge fan of "that was so hot I think I'm in love" stories, but I didn't see Adam and Silas that way. It sounded at the beginning like they were already getting to know each other because of their agreement to share the room, and I liked the way the happy-for-now end had the right blend of hope and realism. These are guys who are infatuated but want to see where it goes.

This is technically a stand-alone, since it's not really necessary to have read the first book, but I found it helped make sense of the context to have read it. I'm not sure I'd have loved it as much if I didn't understand the rest of the world in this series. For me, it was like a nice trip back to a favorite vacation spot, and I enjoyed it a lot.

This is a short story compared to book 1 in this series but it was such a good read.

Adam has been wanting to go to Buchanan house for pride weekend but did not have the money to do it on his own so he met Silas online and they agreed to split the room with no strings attached or any preconceived notions of hooking up. They did not realize that upon meeting each other face to face that it would change both their lives forever.

This is a book about no expectations other then meeting and having a good time. But it is also a book about how upon meeting face to face the first time how quickly lust for one another can turn into love.

Even though this is a short story, Charley was able to make the intensity of the situation between these two gentlemen fly off the pages. The attraction they felt for one another and the jealousy they both experienced about the other getting attention from someone other then them was very intense from the moment they laid eyes on one another. Charley was able to portray a lot of emotions in this short story without over playing it and turning it into smut.

It was a very enjoyable read and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Pride Weekend is a lovely story. It has the romance and the magic that was missing in the first book of the series. Perhaps because it concentrates in just one weekend in the life of the main characters and we get to experience the new found lust they have for each other.

This short story is a simple, but a sweet snippet in the life of two guests at the Buchanan House. They spent most of their time in their room, but even so, we learned about their past and what they want for their future.

There are a lot of smexy scenes, but the reader gets a sense of place and the opportunity to see a new relationship develop. What starts as lust, changes rapidly into great chemistry, and unexpected possibilities.

This is a cute little story that features Buchanan House as an amazing vacation destination. I really enjoyed getting to see the B&B in action in this story and a tiny glimpse at one of the characters I enjoyed in the first book in this series.
Silas and Adam are sweet together. You don’t get to know them much but you definitely get enough of a sense about them to want to see them together. I like how Silas rushes to fix his mistake and acts rash to ensure Adam doesn’t write him off completely.
There’s a very happy for now at the end of this story that makes me hopeful these two will make it long term. I so hope they show up in future Buchanan House stories so we can catch up with them. And if not, that’s ok too since I can imagine them being very happy together and figuring out how to be in a relationship together.

This was a quick short read and I really got into it more than book one. This book was about two men who meat online and decided to share a room at the Buchanan House as neither could afford it alone. I love how the author brought them together and loved how it ended. We didn’t really get to spend time with Nathan and Eric (in fact there was one brief scene with Nathan when Adan checks in). I loved the descriptions of the house and it was clear that Eric and Nathan did a really great job renovating. I’m not sure where either Adan or Silas lives as the author does not tell us but she did say they end up together in the end. I immediately fell in love with Adam and when Silas come into the picture it was clear to me that both these men wanted more than they thought.

The book was free, so there's no complaint on the length. Still i was a bit surprised when the story was over at 54% and the rest was an excerpt. Huh? I don't like it to think that there's a lot of book left and you turn the page to realize you've reached the end. Especially since this novella ended kinda abrupt and feel robbed of an actual ending

What was suppose to only be a weekend hookup between strangers, becomes something much more meaningful. There was not much of a plot, but I really enjoyed the sweet, fun read about Adam and Silas.
