The Hive has survived their first fleet action against FinnTech. But in the process, they've lost the Hive itself.
With their manufacturing base in Finn's hands, it's only a matter of time before they're outnumbered and destroyed. As Rada searches for a path to victory, she stumbles on a horrifying secret: the aliens who've kept humanity confined to the Solar System are about to make their move.
To stand against the coming threat, the Hive will have to bring FinnTech to the peace table. If they fail to stop the fighting, no matter who wins the battle for the Solar System, they'll lose the war for survival.
Ed is the author of the post-apocalyptic Breakers series and the epic fantasy series The Cycle of Arawn. A former New Yorker and Idaho-guy, he currently lives in the LA area. His short fiction has appeared in a whole bunch of magazines and anthologies.
Enjoyed and it is a easy page turner. Waited to long between this and the last book and it took me a while to remember the character backstories and relationships, will need to get to Freefall faster.
A fast paced, gripping story that wouldn't let me stop reading. Eagerly awaiting the next installment. Breakers and Rebel Stars are fantastic companion series.
I liked it, but, it felt like in his own head Edward W. Robertson had lost control of the story. With the exception of MacAdams, all the other characters have become ill defined and poorly written which is in sharp contrast to the previous books in the series. The plot lines were also much weaker than the previous novels. This book marks the transition in the overall series story-arc from the human-human conflict between The Hive and FinnTech to the coming human-alien war with the mysterious Lurkers. I hope it is simply that this process of changing focus has accidentally made it feel like a loss of focus. I cannot seem to shake the mental metaphor of a car taking a curve too fast and I worry about the tree just before the road straightens again that drivers often find themselves wrapped around. I lo0k forward to the next installment in this series with anticipation, but also unfortunately with dread.
Another interesting entry in the series that expands the Rebel Stars universe and gives more insights into the least known of the main characters, MacAdams. Good story with plenty of action, but in some sense it feels almost like a turn into a cul-de-sac and I expect that in the next book we'll get back to things. Still, an enjoyable read.
War, a huge fleet of ships, rockets and men are led by an ego driven power hungry want to be dictator. The fleets must be combined to survive a war with the alien horde. Politics and negotiations, heroes and deception, discovery leads to new plans. This is a great story.
1000 years after the swimmer invasion evidence starts to mount that a new alien threat is emerging. One of the biggest problems is that the two most powerful technocrats Toman and Thor Finn are basically at war with each other. Toman wants to unit the people to face the new threat together whilst Finn wants to rule and if necessary save the human race by accepting slavery under the new aliens if that's what it takes. Can a peace summit between the two of them work or is a betrayal the only possible outcome?
Ed's stories are so engrossing! His characters become like family members to me and I can't wait to see what will happen next in their fight to save humanity from a 2nd alien invasion. Heartwarming stories....lots of surprises!
This author gets it. Not only fresh and innovative, the action never stops and it’s so REAL. Characters leap off the page like your best friends. You KNOW them. I like this guy and his writing. Mucho goodo. Read it.
Great addition to a great series. Having read the Breakers I love the tie ins, and the fact this story arc is in the same universe.
Ed Robinson is an author who I find is improving his storytelling with each book he writes. Additionally he has great imagination but like any good writing it's about the characters and the ability to bring them to life and give great narrative.
