She’s gone over the river and through the woods, but who will protect her from the Big Bad Wolf?

Rojita is in trouble; all she needs to do is get to her grandmother in Everland, but she’s being chased by El Lobo, one of the West’s most notorious gunslingers. It isn’t until she’s thrown herself head-long into danger that she realizes the old adage about frying pans and fires applies. She’s in desperate need of a protector, and hires the first man who comes along to get her safely to Everland.

Bounty hunter Hank Cutter is more than ready to retire to a lonely little cabin in Arizona, to hang up his gun and find peace. He’ll begrudgingly help the reckless young woman get to the nearest train station, because he figures she’d get into even more trouble on her own. But when El Lobo struts back into his life—Hank still has the scars from their last encounter—he knows that he can’t leave Rojita at the gunslinger’s mercy. Maybe he’s nobler than he’d thought, because he’s soon setting a trap to save the lovely, impetuous Red. The only problem is that she’s still keeping a secret that could destroy his trust.

The Brides of Everland, Ever After

Step into Everland, Wyoming, where the people on the street are more than what they appear, and there’s just a hint of magic in the air. From evil villains to mysterious godmothers, handsome cowboys to hidden princesses… welcome to Everland, Ever After.

DNF at 30%

I give up. This "Little Red" is just too ninny for me to keep on reading this. Also there's lots and lots of "cheese".
Also, the villain doesn't know "his" Spanish. -__________-

Isn’t that right, mi amado?” Lobo squeezed, and Rojita winced.
This type of phrasing...nope.

I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler-free way. Unfortunately, there is still always a risk of slight spoilers despite my best efforts. If you feel something in my review is a spoiler please let me know. Thank you.

Rojita is being hunted by El Lobo (The Wolf). After escaping him the first time and falling from her horse. Hank Cutter finds her lying in the snow. Now Rojita must convince the handsome Hank to protect her from El Lobo and get her to Everland and her Grandmother with her Grandfathers will in tow.

Likes:
~Little Red Riding Hood retelling
~Clean romance
~Held my attention
~Familiar characters from other fairytales

Dislikes:
~Insta-love born from only physical attraction
~Dull plot. The whole story was romance-driven
~Hank is kinda an alpha jerk

So I did like this story. It got and then held my attention throughout. It was short so I expected the romance to develop fast. However, they had known each other a total of 3 days before they both 'knew' they loved each other. While I can accept her love for him because he was kind to her, protected her, risked his own life for her. The only reason I can come up with as to why he would fall for her is her looks. You don't really get to know enough of her personality for him to fall for her in that way. Oh yeah and he proposes at the end. After only 3 days.

It was an interesting retelling though told in Wild West theme. Everland, Wyoming sounds like a very interesting place with lots of familiar characters from fairytales. And while I get that it's set in a different time. Rojita's weak and submissive personality is just a little much for me. Same with Hank's overbearing and overprotective personality. He goes a bit above and beyond with calling her a fool and basically treating her like a child.

All in all, though it was a cute and short book. I can see myself reading more from this series and possible all of them. Especially if they continue to be on KU.

This is really a 2.5, but I upped it a half star because of the ending confrontation.

The use of Spanish in this books feels off a bit - but I can't say for sure because I know French not Spanish.

The central heroine - Red - is almost too much of a ninny, and the hero - Hank - is almost too much of "she's a ninny but hot, so I will tell her how muh of a ninny she is". It is also a bit too much insta-love that is really insta-lust.

Still I finished it, and the ending confrontation was good.

My Musings

This book didn't keep my attention. I never truly engaged with the characters. I would have liked more depth . Happy reading!

Started this book, and while there were a few mild curse words and got 13% in when it got to them laying by the fire together to stay warm and him waking to find her sprawled over him (to keep warm) but her one hand in his armpit and one in-between his legs (to keep warm) and then him getting aroused...I didn't feel the need to continue.

I loved this version of Little Red Riding Hood by Caroline Lee. She has twisted this tale in a beautiful way that is not like the classic fairy tale at all. It is a wonderful and wild in adventure story about secrets and need for Little Red to get back to her hometown of Everland where as an orphan she grew up in a most wonderful orphanage with many brothers and sisters, her grandmother and grandfather as all this kids call them. It is truly a family not your ordinary orphanage of the mid 1800's in Wyoming Territory. A Western version if you can imagine.

Red as Hank calls her for her spectacular and gorgeous red hair, and her red cloak she is wearing when he finds her in the woods running from something. He has stumbled upon this beauty all alone where no woman should be alone. She is very trusting of him at once, which he knows she shouldn't be. She asks him to escort her safely back to Everland and will pay him for it.

Hank is an ex bounty hunter who says he will do it, but knows he won't but wants to get her safely to the next town and on a train to Everland.
She is being chased by a very dangerous man who Hank knows oh so well since he once had is own chase with the man as a bounty hunter, and was shot by the dangerous El Lobo. Knowing this he has to get Red to safety.

This is a wonderful new exciting twist on this classic fairly tale that you are so pulled in from the start and want to read it from start to finish.
Everland is a wonderful and very different town in Wyoming Territory that Hank thinks all these people are strange but Red knows that are wonderful people who were misplaced elsewhere in the world.

Can an ex bounty hunter and a beautiful woman with glorious red hair and opposite personalities get along and give in to their mutual attraction to each other that is from the beginning? She is thinks she can take care of herself and has lots of determination to do so and he knows she is not all that capable and needs help before she gets into to trouble. She thinks he is so handsome and is drawn to him as he is to her but he has his plans to go to Arizona and buy some land, build a house and just retire. Any chance they can survive the what if's?

Read this book and find out about this wonderful story of love at first site and heart changing minds even if the head isn't so sure. You will love it and the people of Everland. But for the background story to Everland the town and it's misplaced people who finally find it home, start with Ella the first book in this wonderful and engaging series.

I highly recommend this book and hope you will read Ella and then Little Red and I know you will as I will want to read any new stories coming out in this series.

This was a great continuation to the series and it was great to learn more about the town of Everand, Wyoming. It was a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood but with a twist, in that the Big Bad Wolf is a gunslinger called El Lobo.
All the characters were well developed and believable if not particularly likable in the case of El Lobo. The plot kept me hooked from cover to cover.

Hank Cutter finds Rojita in the woods on the outskirts of Everland where she's injured. She's on her way to Everland to her Grandmothers on the run from El Lobo one of the West's most notorious gunslingers, but she doesn't realize the importance of the Old adage about frying pans and fires until she's placed herself in danger. Hank is about to retire from being a bounty hunter and is dreaming of the lonely little cabin in Arizona, to hang up his gun and find peace finds. When he finds Rojita he doesn't realize that they are kind of connected to each other by the fact that they both know El Lobo

All the characters in this book especially the main ones were developed in a way that you learned what you needed to for the purposes of the book but that there was more than enough room for them to be able to develop further in future books. I really loved Rojita, Hank, and Rojita's Grandmother as they were great characters. Rojita's Grandmother was a great character because although she was as Nasty to Ella as her sisters when they were around when they weren't around it was clear that she actually genuinely loved Ella because she wasn't as
However, I really hated El Lobo (The big bad wolf) as he was a truly evil person who believes that he
he has more right to her grandfather's property than she does as he's his brother and that by making her marry him he'll get his hands on it

I fall in love with the town and its inhabitants more each time I read about them so can't wait to find out more about it as I read the other books in the series. The way Caroline described the town, events that occur in the story and the characters in the story really enabled me to connect well with the book as a whole

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this book and know that I will enjoy the series as a whole as I have already read twp of the other books in the series.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical western romance retellings because it fits in this genres very well. This book is one that I will, without doubt, both recommend it to/buy it for anyone who enjoys books that fit into the genre's mentioned above.

This whole series is a retelling of several fairytales, but each story is old west style, which makes them unique and interesting. The retelling of Little Red Riding Hood was special and a sweet one at that. Rojita Zapato was being chased down by the desperado, Los Lobo, and has to get back to her grandmother in Everland, Wyoming. When she gets thrown from her stolen horse and passes out. She is a well-written female lead because she is a passionate, leap-before-she-looks kind of woman. She leads with her heart and doesn’t give up easily.

Hank Cutter is a bounty hunter who is ready to settle down in warmer climes when he finds a horse running across the prairie and sets out to locate its owner. He didn’t expect to find a beautiful red headed woman unconscious and wrapped in a red cloak in the middle of nowhere. Once she awakens, there are more sparks and heat than a bonfire. She thinks his voice is as smooth as caramel and that is how I heard his voice as I read through the sincere, slightly heroic, and hilarious dialogue between him and Red.

As Los Lobo comes into the picture, Hank realizes he has more than a past with the dangerous outlaw. He wants to make sure that Rojita and all of those that she loves is safe forever, even if it kills him. There are a few times that Rojita made me want to smack her upside her head, Gibbs style. There were a few times that I wanted to kick Hank in his seemingly luscious hindquarters just to get his head out of the southern locale. All in all, I was not disappointed at the climax of the story, or with the sweet love story that developed along the way. I plan to crack open the rest of the series to learn more about how the other fairytale characters play out in this unique storyline.

After reading other Everland fairy tales and catching glimpses of how Rojita and Hank always seem so in love, I was excited to finally learn where their story began. Both of them are quite different from the other heroes and heroines in the series, but I think that is fitting considering that Little Red Riding Hood isn't a princess. Rojita is a tough woman who acts impulsively and develops intense feelings rapidly. Hank is rough around the edges but in a charming, sexy way. The romance throughout this novel is more physical than in others in the series, and a little steamy, though nothing inappropriate happens, just some passionate kissing and a few spicy thoughts from both characters, though again, nothing explicitly inappropriate. The story itself was engaging and grittier than the other novels in the series I have read so far. I loved how raw and real Rojita and Hank's relationship was throughout the novel. I'm so glad I discovered Everland and can't wait to read more fairytales from Caroline Lee!

Little Red Riding Hood western style.

This original retelling of Little Red Riding Hood is set in the wild west of Wyoming. Rojita Zopato is Little Red, Hank is the Woodsman, and El Lobo is the Big Bad Wolf. Rojita is a bit impetuous, she tends to act first and think second. But she does have a big heart, and only wants to get home to Grandma. Hank finds Red unhorsed and unconscious wrapped in her brilliant red hair and matching cloak. Thus the nickname, Little Red. Hank wants to help the damsel in distress and promises to help her get home. Then there is El Lobo, the big bad villain, 'nough said.

The story was sweet, even if I wanted to hit Red upside the head a few times. Think naive, and too trusting. Hank took a while to get his big boy panties on, and El Lobo... he was a villain, he did his job well. How it all turned out, I'm not saying. You have to read it to find out. The book kept my attention but dragged a bit at times. Not much, but I'm more of an action person. So that's me.

This is the first book I read in this series, and probably one of my favorites. I thought the fairy tale in a western town was a good premise and liked how the author brings in a lot of fairy tale secondary characters and even minor characters. I do have to say that this is a little different than some clean books in that our characters do think about intimacy (usually in a vague way) a lot and we read of their reactions to their thoughts. There were moments that I felt like I stepped into an almost over the top romance novel, but then the author would in some way almost make fun of the swoony character (or they would make fun of themselves) and she would have me right back in the story. There was never any sex (implied or otherwise) and the stories and characters are each pretty unique. I've read most of the remained of the series and, for the most part, liked them all.

I liked Ms. Lee's taken on 'Little Red Riding Hood" set in Everland, WY.

Rojita is headed home and the outlaw El Lobo (Bad Wolf) is on her tail. She has something that he wants and he is willing to kill to get it. She is rescued by Hank Cutter, a bounty hunter who has a score to even with El Lobo too. He will accompany her to her grandmother house in Everland.

Hank had no intention of escorting her home. He'd get her to Haskell and put on the train to her family. The arrival of El Lobo changes that. He will go with her to make sure she arrives safely.

This is a story of a brave gal, a inheritance and finding your special One in life.

Little Red: An Everland Ever After Tale by Caroline Lee

Wow, I had no idea what to expect from this story when I started, it but it was wonderful! Exciting, enticing, intriguing! It just pulled me in! Yes, it has character names from the fairy tales of our childhood, but that just makes it all the more interesting and entertaining! Lots of action and suspense in this Happy Ever After romance! I’m looking forward to reading more of this series and other books by Caroline Lee! I hope you’ll join me!

Rojita is Little Red and she is going back home to her grandmother. She has a bad man on his way to take everything away from her. On the way she runs into bounty hunter, Hank. He just want to retire to Arizona and hung up his gun in a cabin and live in peace. Until he meets Rojita. Now he wants to protect her.
This is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood and very cute. I enjoyed it very much and the way it was written. I was rooting for Hank and Rojita. Didn't have many pages but had instant love, which I am not always fond of but it worked in this book.

Interesting Adaptation

This was a very interesting adaptation of a fairytale. I think the setting in Wyoming actually worked quite well with the fairytale retelling. The romance was okay, but I just can't love this story as it was too graphic and lewd. I felt like there was way more lust than love involved in this tale, and that, combined with the time span of the story, didn't lead me to believe in the romance. Still and interesting story, but I'm not sure I want to read others in the series...

An enjoyable read!

I wasn't sure what to expect in this book but the premises of historical western meets fairytale captured my attention. I bought the first few book of this series simply because I enjoyed other books written by this author. They have been sitting in my kindle for quite some time. After reading this book.... I can't wait to read the rest of the series! I want to read more about the enchanting town of Everland! I am intrigued by the other characters in this story.

Little Red Ridinghood in the Old West

I really like this concept of taking a traditional fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood, and writing an adult version set in the Old West. I even appreciated that there was a tie-in to Haskell, Wyoming Territory, from other series.

However, I just couldn't get into the story or the characters. Maybe it was my mood, maybe it was the story. I'll try another one in the series to see.

If you want something quite different, give it a try.

I like the characters and how Lee intertwined nursery rhymes into Everland but as cute as it was I was bored for half the book. There was no action until all most the end and it was kind of disappointing. Mostly the beginning was all about Red and Hank getting to know one another and driving each other crazy with their own feelings about each other. It was boring. Not sure why I kept reading.

I precede my review with the warning that 1) it is definitely an adult retelling (nothing explicit, though), 2) it's rather love-at-first-sight (which does make sense for a fairy tale, but is something I tend to wince at), and 3) the Kindle version ends at 86% because there are two excerpts included at the end (disappointing for me, because it meant the story wrapped up a lot quicker than I expected.)

This isn't the first non-magical fairy tale retelling I've read, but it IS the first I've read that was set in the historical West, which is neat.

The characters themselves are pretty well-developed--Hank is my favorite, both because tortured-past bounty hunter is a trope I like, and for a scene later in the book which I won't spoil here. Rojita's quite the little firecracker, and I liked watching them tease each other throughout the book.

There isn't a lot of action, but there was enough to keep me worried for Rojita and her grandmother. I liked how the plot resolved, too (though I did guess the twist before the big reveal). Much of the story focuses on Rojita's and Hank's growing attraction to each other, which works well for a fairy tale (in a normal story, I would have thought it rather over the top, but I also don't do romance, so take that with a grain of salt.)

All in all, it's an interesting twist on the fairy tale genre and I would recommend it to adults who enjoy Westerns and fairy tales.

I picked up this series for a reading challenge it's a historical romance set in the wild west in Everland Wyoming. The concept for this series is adorable each book has a different couple with just a little magic mixed in. I have devoured each book in just a quick reading session. Every story has it's own unique story and I loved every moment of them. I plan to continue and finish the series as I enjoyed seeing the authors unique twist on the retellings.

Loved this grown up fairy tale! Caroline Lee brings the children's fairy tale characters to life in an adult version. I love how she uses the same characters as the children's version with an adult and more modern twist. Can't wait to read more from this series and author.

I loved the concept and loved the characters. There was just too much sexual content for me. Nothing overtly explicit, but it was pretty dang borderline. I didn't think the book needed that. Sure, have some tension, which is to be expected when you have two people who are attracted to each other. I liked Rojita. I thought she was a very interesting character. A Scottish looking woman who was raised by Mexican grandparents. It was pretty cool. And Hank could be considered dreamy, if not for his pension for certain, ahem, establishments. That was a turn off for me, for sure.

Again, great book, awesome story, good writing, just a bit of added stuff in there that I didn't think needed to be in there.

RED

Hank and Rojita! What a delightful couple. This book will keep your interest from the beginning to the end. The villain, El Lobo is a worthy adversary and will not give up on his evil quest. It takes Hank, Rojita, and her family, which also becomes Hank's family to defeat the enemy and get their HEA. Nice read.

Cinderella was more my type

Cinderella is an Everland book too and I liked it so much that I was in a rush to read another from the series but Red didn't even come close to the richness of characters and scenes in comparison. I'm glad I read it because I like to read and finish series and there is really good parts in the Red book.

I haven't read any other books in this series. This book was ok. Retellings can be fun. This one was original, but the world building is based off of all the stories happening at the same time. Not a fan of that. The story telling was a bit slow, and I wanted to put the book down a few times. The romance is clean. But not sure I would be interested in reading much more.

Absolutely delightful

Well written retelling of little red riding hood. Love the town of Everland. Enough suspense but also a cute love story. Keeps you on your toes figuring out which fairytales were represented. Can't wait for the next book. Enjoyable reading.
