I’m an American writer of Jewish and Romany decent. I write Historical Fiction and Historical Romance, most of which is set during the holocaust. Although I never discount the horrors of the time period, the main focus of my work is on ordinary people who prove to be strong heroic characters in unfathomable circumstances.

Hats off to author Roberta Kagan! I read all the books in the All My Love, Detrick series and I loved every book. Forever My Homeland: The Final Book in the All My Love, Detrick series was brilliant. All the questions I had about each character was answered in this final book. I feel that Roberta Kagan could have continued this series, and I wish she had because I loved reading them, but I understand that all good things have to come to an end and she did accomplish this in a satisfying way. If you haven't read the books in this series please do. You won't be sorry. From the first book, you will be hooked. I highly recommend Forever My Homeland by Roberta Kagan.

Exciting - Found I Reread Chapters - So Moving

Two American teenaged girls are kidnapped in Israel. This book gives voice to the parents, even the Father who wasn't aware that he had a daughter. It also gives voice as well as how the kidnapping affected those doing the kidnapping, the man falsely accused of doing it and the guard who realized the man was innocent. These voices are needed to make all aware that there are many affected by the acts of a few. I highly recommend this book!

A Review of the Series

Ms. Kagan has given readers a sweeping saga of Israel, beginning in World War II and ending in the 1980's. The story follows the same 2 or 3 families as some survive the Nazi concentration camps, then attempt to build their lives after the war. It's an engrossing tale of courage and enduring love for the Jewish homeland. I recommend the series to readers who are interested in stories set in turmoil of the war and the rebuilding afterward.

Holocaust tragedies

I have read the whole series and was shocked by what happened. In America you did not know the whole injustice the Jewish people suffered. Also the other races who suffered. Roberta revievd many of these things. Also she told of when it was over the hardships indured

Final story

Not quite sure why this book did not just continue on from end of previous one -told story of Ima and her troubles all over again- really interrupted the flow of the story.

A very revealing saga built upon the true human experience and historical facts.

I cannot deny that this series was a good read but more than that, I feel that it exposed the inhumanity that existed in Nazi Germany with purpose. Hatred and division still exist today in so many cultures. People are divided and racial strife exists simply due to nationality. The strength of the human spirit was also a huge part of this series; the love and hope that exists even in places that you would not expect it. The All My Love Detrick series of books are an multi-generational literary work based in much actual history. There is a hope that I rely on and is described in the Bible; one united world, peace in a future that has been promised at Psalms 37:10,11. With these promises, I know that a better future will be realized.

Home is Israel

What happens when Germans come to Israel and the Jews they meet lost family in the German camps during WWII?
The ever present question is present throughout this book. The people who are living in the 1960’s-1970’s are dealing with the issue of how to be civil to a former enemy.
The book attempts to describe the possibilities - the downsides and the hopes.
The author does a good job; it’s now up to those living today to work through the issues.
This book tries to open the subject; it could be considered a historical primer.

Sad to see it end

After having read all the books back to All My Love,Detrick, I never cease to be amazed at the quality of Ms Kagan's writing. She has to be one of the most talented authors I've ever read. The way she weaves the different characters into the book is awesome. Her research is also amazing. I can't begin to recommend all of the books in this series enough. Excellent, excellent reading.

After reading all of the All My Love, Detrick series, this book was my least favorite. A some parts were repeated several times. This took away from the flow. The repetition seemed as though it was used as filler to make the story longer. Also, I would have prefered more character development and involvement with Ido and Ima in the hostage incident with Bari Lynn and Marilyn. Not a bad read but could have been better; not the same caliber as books 1 to 4.

Truly a work of art

This book is truly the masterpiece of work each book brought the reader into the lives of the characters and truly gave the reader an amazing glimpse into the lives of millions who suffered and died because of one horrific mad man and those who willingly followed him

Enjoyed entire series! Couldn't wait to start the next book all the way thru. So sad I'm done with the series. If you enjoy reading about the Holocaust, and the after effects in the lives of so many jews, you'll enjoy Roberta's books. They are touching and sad, but continue to keep your attention because there is much happiness that is celebrated as well!

I love the books about wwll. But sometimes they are so sad.
I have finished this one. A few months ago. But being 82 and had a bout with illness I afraid I have not remember as mush. Trying to read the series, I skipped some I think.
But I do love Ms. Megan's books of Israel. I want to go there sometime. I have a very good friend there.

Wonderful!

This book is the last in a series, the fifth. I have enjoyed each one, with many characters and many situations. From the time of the anti-Semitic movement in the 1930's, through the Holocaust, to the emergence of Israel-I have read the continuing story of a small group of people. Their story is one that we all need to read again and again

Low rating for repeated and (in my view) unnecessary backstory information. There were also several inconsistencies in the timeline and other facts of the story. Seemed like the Author hurried through this one! Overall, however, I appreciated the historical references that added to my understanding of the plight of Israel.

Wow

Yet another amazing and intertwined segment of books written by Roberta Kagen. Unlike movies where the sequels are lackluster, the final four installments in this series of novels are magnificent! I would recommend them to any and and all people who love to read. Enjoy.

Suspenseful

Thankyou Roberta for another wonderful novel. More current than the others, but just as genuine. Lovely historical fiction series, even if you have read about the holocaust you must read Roberta's books

Very Good

The last book in the series was not disappointing. As the saga ends, there is closure in the lives of the characters. This book continues to feature the Mossad and their work in protecting Isreal.

I loved this book. Kagan gathered the threads of this series so the reader can reach a conclusion as to the fate of the characters you have come to care about

Good

I think this was a fitting end to this five book series. I was confused by Katja's feelings on a number of things in her life which made me not care for her as much as I should have. 3.5 stars rounded up.

Audiobook- Nice wrap up to the series. I’m sad to say goodbye to the characters. This book was heavy on the theme of acceptance of people who are in the “other” group and coming together for love and peace. German “aryan”/Jewish, Black/white, Israeli/Palestinian.

Loved all 5 books and how the author told the historical facts in a beautiful story captivating the characters that flows like a well written sonnet from beginning to end.

Final

This last book in the series seems better to me than the one preceding. In fact, it appears to be the ending to that book. However, it is a complete tale in itself.
