Love & Marriage #2

Then Comes Marriage

Rate this book
Fall in love—check.
Get engaged and plan a perfect wedding—check and check.
Find my fiancé with another woman—I never thought I’d check that off the list, yet here I am, putting a giant “X” in that box just months before we take our sacred vows.

Along with recovering from a broken heart, I’m left with the mess of canceling all things wedding. The venue gave me the deposit back. The florist canceled my order with no charge. The resort we booked for the honeymoon—yeah, they’re not giving me a dime. But I’ll be damned if I throw away a chance to spend two weeks in a tropical paradise, lounging on the beach with a drink in my hand, looking for anything but love.

When I see Derek Turner—a sexy homicide detective I’ve run into a few times before—walking along the beach, I’m not sure if he’s stalking me or if it’s fate. Dark and brooding with a past he refuses to talk about, Derek is the last thing I need…and is exactly what I want.

But when what started off as a rebound turns into something more, something neither of us can deny, I’m left with love’s greatest irony: finding the right person at the worst possible time.

One Night.
That's how fast I devoured this book.
I was HOOKED.
I laid the kids down for bed and instead of doing my chores like I promised my self I would, I blew them off, snuggled up in bed and read until wee hours of the morning.
And it was so worth the dragging my butt out of bed this morning and my "Mombie-ness" today.
I wanted something easy, breezy, fun, light and happy.
I got that here.
I LAUGHED and LAUGHED. I smiled.
There was some sad parts but they were part of the funny parts.
I think you need to just read it for your self and see.

This is only my second book by Emily Goodwin and I loved them both! This book is a sweet love story. This book is about Rachel, Lauren’s (from First Comes Love) best friend, and it can be read as a standalone.

Rachel will be married to Tristan in a couple months. One day, she wants to surprise Tristan by getting home early and she finds him with another woman. Rachel is shocked and angry. Tristan tries to talk to her and still wants to be with Rachel, but Rachel kicks him out of the house. Rachel eventually moves back home and doesn’t know what to do next. A couple of months later, it’s time for a vacation. She goes alone, but there she sees someone she met a couple months back. It’s the sexy detective Derek. Derek is on vacation with his family, but he spends most of his time with Rachel. They get to know each other better and they have a connection.

I love Rachel and Derek. Derek is still hurt and angry about a betrayal that happened a few years ago. He is driven and determined at work. He works all the time now and even his boss wants him to take a vacation. He doesn’t want to go, but he still goes to make his mother happy. The more time he spends with Rachel, the happier he is that he went. Derek is attracted to Rachel and he wants her, but he is hesitant to start something with her.

Rachel is the opposite of Derek. Sure she’s hurt and angry about Tristan’s cheating, but she knows that she isn’t to blame and moves on pretty fast. She is very optimistic. She loves her job as a nurse and works hard. She loves her vacation and was happy to see Derek there. They love to spend time together. They belong together and are a beautiful couple. They have hilarious conversations.

When Rachel and Derek first meet each other, Rachel is still engaged and I immediately wondered how Rachel would end up with Derek. It was good that the vacation is months after Rachel broke up with Tristan. It made it more believable. But Rachel and Derek still questioned it if it is too fast to start a relationship. Also the distant isn’t good for the start of their relationship.

I adored the secondary characters. It was great to read about Lauren, Rachel’s best friend, and Noah. They are still one happy family. Lauren is always there for Rachel. I also loved Derek’s family. His mother is hilarious sometimes. She only wants the best for her son, but she also wants him to work less and to start a family.

I loved the setting and the descriptions of the environment. I loved it that it wasn’t just a beach vacation and that Rachel and Derek did a lot of activities. Now I want to go where they went!

This is definitely the summer read of the year.

Emily writes with cleverness and fun that makes her writing a nonstop adventure. I love how easy it is to read and then get wrapped up in her writing that before you know it, its 2am and you have finished the book.

Rachel is a sympathetic nurse who has naïvety that has left her heartbroken but she won't let that defeat her. She still strong-willed and determined. Her life is not over, she is strong and smart enough to start a new.

Derek is a homicide detective who's personal life was swept right out from underneath him from a lie. He then took to his career and devoted himself to that.

Rachael and Derek find themselves continually "coincidentally" together. They both were disappointed with failed past loves but find themselves finding a healing and a deeper love with the other.

The story had me sympathizing for both characters falling in love with each of their personalities. I also found my self verbally cheering them on and rooting for them the whole way, individually and together.

Emily surprised me with lots of laughs throughout her story. If I gotten anything out of this book besides my newfound favorite word "dickmuffin", it's that Emily writes in a style I can read with ease and anticipation. With this book I believe I have found an author I need to follow and read her entire library.

Then Comes Marriage de Emily Goodwin Serie Love & Marriage libro 2

Argumento:

Enamorarse, comprobado.

Great story about picking yourself up, dusting off and moving on. One of our characters is doing it so much better than the other. I really enjoyed these two - they were quite good together. I also loved his family. This is the first book I've read where the main character had that "side" job.

This story has a ton of laughs, pain, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed and kept you interested.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
First Comes Love

This is Rachel and Derek’s story. Rachel was all set to get married until she caught her man cheating. She breaks it off and cancels the wedding but can’t get a refund on her honeymoon so she decides to go alone. While on vacation she sees Derek who she met at a crime scene before. They spend time together getting to know each other. The more time they spend together the closer they become. But Derek has secrets he will not open up about, and they live in different towns. Can they make it work? Or is this just a vacation affair? What happens when the ex wants Rachel back? Will she go back to her ex or try and make a relationship with Derek work?

I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

Five Amazing Stars! Rachel's world is turned upside down when she finds her fiancé in bed with another woman. Derek has also had his trust and heart destroyed by a woman and now finds himself drowning in his work as a detective. Rachel finds she can't return the honeymoon trip to a beach resort, and Derek needs a vacation so they both go to the same place. They end up spending a week together in paradise, full of love, romance, and passion. What will happen when they return to reality and their fast paced jobs? Will their love survive? This is another great book by Ms. Goodwin and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters had you feeling what they were going through and I was rooting for them! This is a stand-alone novel. The author will have you from the first chapter and you will not want to put the book down. I recommend this book!

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. This book was read and reviewed by Annamaria for Alpha Book Club.

Loved this book.

Rachel moves to Dallas Texas and leaves all her friends and family behind in Michigan. Her fiancee Travis had a good job offer and she went with him. Rachel believes that everything is good between her and Travis until she comes home earlier than he is expecting. He's cheating so she ends everything with Travis. She moves back home to be with her family and friends and is cancelling everything with the wedding. She can't cancel the honeymoon to Hawaii so she decides to take it alone. While there she runs into Derek a detective that she had spoken with while helping out a veteran that is suffering from PTSD. Derek is gorgeous and she doesn't mind spending time with him. Derek has secrets that are hurting him a lot. Grab this story and see if they can heal each other.

WOW, where do I begin??? When I read First Comes Love I was left with such happiness in my heart. I LOVED that book and was actually sad to see it end. So this book had HUGE shoes to fill after reading that one. I can't say this one was any better than the first one because this is a completely different kind of story that left me feeling completely different. But I can say that the story-line in this book was written just as brilliantly, just in a different way. I was completely sucked into the story by the second chapter. The story flowed so effortlessly and not once felt like it was lacking in anyway. The characters are very well developed and I connected with them all including the secondary characters. Ms. Goodwin has definitely found a fan in me and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Dreams come true but then so do nightmares.

Rachel learns that the hard way. She tries to surprise her fiancee but the surprise is on her.

Derek is a detective. He sees a lot of nightmares. His own personal nightmare has left him a mess.

weird stalker accusations
coincidental vacations
and lust running amok

hmm, Then Comes Marriage is my kind of book. Two people with contrary reactions to the thing that "broke" them. One hides and the other is trying to get through it. Together seems to be the best way for both...

It's a sweet story. I appreciated getting Rachel's story. I just wish I had the Hawaiian vacation with...Well, can't tell you all the fun stuff. If you loved, First Comes Love, you will love Then Comes Marriage.

Wow!!! Emily has done it again. I love her books but I have to say they keep getting better and Better. With each book I get a new book boyfriend.

Catching her fiancé in the act a few weeks before her wedding she is left to cancel all the wedding plans and such. Except the place where they were going on their honeymoon wouldn't budge. So she's stuck going there for 2 weeks. She didn't plan on meeting this sexy detective. But she does but can she trust him

Awww. I really liked this one! The romance progressed at a nice, believable pace and I absolutely loved the MCs. They were both damaged by previous relationships and together they healed. Their time in Hawaii was so fun to read about. I felt like I was there.

This was a great book!

This book was really great”””””

*****FEW SPOILERS MIGHT BE MENTION SO BE AWARE***

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2019...

Here I am reading another book by Emily Goodwin called “Then Comes Marriage.” I’m 27% done with this book. I’m here rolling my eyes, like, "I’m so over this girl crying, I'm on chapter 9, and I'm over it. I'm hoping by chapter 15. She doesn't cry anymore, she needs to find her a new man *cough* Derek, and get over shrimp dick Travis. Though, she called him “Dick Muffin” while I called him “Shrimp Dick.” He likes peasant .... and he rude, and men. Blah!!! Good book though...

I was glad when Rachel moved on to Derek; because Travis; wasn’t worth crap, he proves that when he brought himself to their honeymoon aka now Vacation (as Rachel called it) to win her back. But when he couldn’t, he disrespected Rachel and called her out of her name. You can learn someone true colors once you date them. They end up, showing you who they truly are. Travis did that and Derek was right there to pick her up to make her happy. I liked how he didn’t change who Rachel was and didn’t think she was weird as Travis made it seem like she was. I agree with Derek “weird” is better. I AM WEIRD MYSELF. To me, BEING WEIRD is so much better.

I like in the end they end up together, got engaged went back to Hawaii for their honeymoon then gotten married, and Rachel gave Derek what he always wanted a BABY. That made me excited :D

If you want to read this book is about Rachel whereas “First Comes Love” is about her friend Lauren; though I think it’s best to READ first comes “love” then this one first comes “marriage” since Lauren and Noah are mentioned in this one.

Then Comes Marriage is a sweet and heartwarming story. Rachel is a nurse working in long term care facility and fashion blogger. Derek is an overworked homicide detective trying to avoid the painful truth. Rachel is trying to move on with her life after catching her fiancé cheating. She’s been able to cancel everything except the honeymoon, so she decides to go on the honeymoon to Hawaii by herself. Coincidentally, Derek is also on vacation with his family in Hawaii and fate puts them in each other’s path. They have a whirlwind trip in Hawaii discovering something they thought they could never have again. But is it enough to break down the walls they’ve built to protect themselves from the betrayals they’ve faced in their past relationships?
I love the slow burn of Derek and Rachel’s relationship. I found myself rooting for them from the beginning and laughing throughout the book at their weird and quirky banter. Oh Derek. He just makes me swoon. Then Comes Marriage is the perfect book if you’re looking for a light, sweet, and funny book with just the right amount of tension and drama.

Loved it! Another great Emily Goodwin story.

I loved Rachel and Derek. Both were unique and quirky characters. They were authentic and genuine and didn't try to be someone they weren't.

I liked that Derek wanted to be there for Rachel and he her plus one, however it was a bit odd. They just met.

I loved that Derek didn't go insane ever when it came to Travis. He never felt the need to punch him and didn't completely ditch Rachel when he saw the kiss. He behaved like an adult and didn't make any rash decisions.

I loved Derek's family. They were so funny and a great addition. I wish we got to see more of them, both the moms and the cousins.

I liked that the Travis reemergence did not cause a whole lot of problems for Rachel and Derek. They resolved the "issue" in a chapter and it was not annoyingly dragged out, which I've seen way too many times in books.

It was great to see Lauren and Noah again. They weren't super involved, which I liked but were important to Rachel.

Great story! Really enjoyable and cute.

Maybe I'm just hitting a string of really good books. I've been through quite a few ho-hum, kinda cute books. I really enjoyed this book. Stayed up way too late trying to finish this one.

While the plot line has been done before, Goodwin does a nice job of keeping it fresh. Rachel walks in on her fiancee cheating. Derek has been screwed over by a woman and throws himself into work and essentially giving up on happiness.

The freshness comes as Goodwin lets you, and Rachel, experience the pain and shame of her relationship falling apart. Yes, there was the, "I was never truly, mind-numbingly happy" piece, but Rachel figured this out over time. I did appreciate the time lapse in the book as it felt more real as Rachel needed time to heal and get her courage to move forward.

Sweet romance between the characters.

I enjoyed reading Derek and Rachel's story. Rachel comes home early one day and finds her fiancé cheating on her. She try's to cancel all her wedding and honeymoon reservations but the resort won't refund her money. With little to no choice she has to decide to either except the loss or take the trip meant for two. Deciding to be brave Rachel jumps on the plane.
Rachel and Derek have met a few times before and are coincidentally taking a vacation on the same island. Together the help each other heal. Derek is patient and caring. He helps Rachel to find herself again. He helps realize she's perfect the way she is. That she doesn't have to pretend to be something she's not to please others. Rachel helps Derek to face what he's running from and find happiness again.

Then Comes Marriage

I have to say I loved this book. I typically love books with a lot of angst that make me feel a bunch of different emotions. This book was not like that but I found myself not being able to put it down. Rachel has her heart broken but tries focusing on the positive. Derek is the complete opposite and let the negative emotions hold him back. Together they made an amazing couple. Anyone who needs a reminder to stay positive and look at the bright side of the situation needs to read this book. A good lesson on letting go and staying positive. Even more importantly, it's a reminder to be yourself and not to worry about the judgements of others.

Not long enough

I love her writing. The only thing I didn't like about it was the ending. I would have loved her to have her to have described the wedding and her telling Dereck that she was pregnant. His reaction to that and them going to Hawaii together would have been the perfect ending. I can see her taking him back to the falls they visited the first time and her dropping the bomb about the baby there. Keep them coming. Great writer. She makes me laugh and cry, which is my idea of a really great writer.

Emily is one of my favorites authors and this book does not disappoint. I was hooked and couldn't put it down! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Derek and Rachel meet while Derek is working. They then run into each other in random locations. Rachel decides to go on her honeymoon alone since her marriage is off and Derek happens to be there with his family also. They find out how perfect they are for each other. This book has an emotional ending that makes you warm and fuzzy!
