In true Regency style, four spirited women find their way to their heart’s deepest desires amidst the glitter and whirl of the Christmas season . . .
First there is Julia Herington, impetuous—and irresistible. Brilliant but shy, Louisa Oliver seems destined for spinsterhood until she finds herself the subject of a scandalous bet—and turns it to romantic advantage. And then there is Jane Tindall, a talent for deception her greatest treasure. Her daring taste for gambling draws her into a marriage of convenience that just might lead to love. Lady Audrina Bradleigh is expected to lead fashion and behave with propriety. But as she discovers on the wintry roads of Yorkshire, she is heedless of society’s proper rules when it comes to her heart’s desires. And only one season can twist all their strands of fate into a perfect gift to last a lifetime . . .

My first dnf of the year. The first story had a cute if not original idea. It may have played out well in a novella or short story. Instead it was 34 chapters of predictable. I didn't bother with the other 3 stories. Thank god this was a library read.
The first two stories were boring and I would rate them 1 star. I would give the third story three stars and the last one two and a half. I had actually read the third story previously and thought it was good which is why I purchased the anthology. If I had not read the third book previously I would have dnf’d the whole anthology 1/2 way through book 1.
I think the the first two books would have been better as novellas as the story ideas weren’t terrible but they were too long and repetitive with the same thoughts from the characters over and over.
I enjoyed the set up of book three and that one held my interest more. It was still too long and overly repetitive but I didn’t mind as much because I was interested in the backstory of the hero and watching the hero and heroine work on their marriage.
Book four might have been better but I was so disappointed with the first two I pretty much skimmed it but I did like the characters and storyline of this one as well, it was just too long and boring in the middle.
4 Holiday themed romances. Solid banter, likeable characters. Does what it says on the tin.
All of the characters had reasonable flaws, and although I am not a fan of the "I cannot tell Person Important Thing because Reasons" plots as a general rule, these were well rendered.
Anthology of four books. 1st book was okay took me a while to get into. 2 stars 2nd book my favorite of the group because I liked hero and heroine 3.5 stars 3rd book like the first was only just okay. 2 stars 4th book I really liked this one. My main issue was the breaks when the perspective changed to one of the secondary characters. 3.5 stars
So far I've only read two out of the four but I consider that well worth the price already for the first two stories I've read.
Ms. Romain writes with much wit and passion between the characters. I loved James and Julia's story but the second one may be even better, between Louisa and Alex. I've stayed up way too late reading for "just one more chapter".
I love that these take place during Christmas time. The Christmas theme isn't just lightly in the background either. In the second book, they actually have a competition to see who can gather the most mistletoe and holly branches/berries.
Great fun, engaging fully developed characters and great sense of humor during Christmas time make these a win for me!
