Jaden's nothing but a traitor and he knows it. He's sold out his settlement to the Flamestone Society in the hope of getting his mother back from them. Instead, he's now cursed to dwell underground and avoid the toxic rays of the sun, which will kill him. There's no hope of redemption. The best he can hope to do is find his mother so she can go back to Earth.

But in his search for her, he discovers an entire culture of people like him—the Disgraced—far underground. They're in danger from both starvation and a sadistic leader who's rising through their ranks. And worse—the guy he sold out is with them, doomed to remain underground until he can find a cure.

Tense.

Only a cure will free the Disgraced from their condition and a life in the depths, but finding it may prove too dangerous. But Jaden's not going to live the life of a coward anymore. He's going to help free the Disgraced and redeem himself even if it means his death.

In this follow-up to the Flamestone Trilogy, 'Light' tells us what happens to Jaden as he discovers The Disgraced deep within the mines. Weslie and Antoine think they've found a cure for the tattoo that's plagued them to a life down there, but it's up to the three of them to get the supplies. Getting them will prove dangerous, though. Jaden is determined to do whatever it takes to prove he's not a coward anymore. Even if it means sacrificing his life.

I read this book as part of my #yearofindiewomen. I read this book during Dewey's 24-Hour #readathon.

This was my least favorite in the Flamestone series. I suppose I just wanted more from it. I wanted more of Weslie and Antoine's experience with The Disgraced, and I wanted more of what lived in the upper parts of Selwyn. Hook did such an awesome job creating this world on the surface of Selwyn and deep below ground, I was really excited when they were going to go up into the mountains, but then I was disappointed when there was really nothing there. I wish there had been less of a focus on Charles and more on the world.

All of that being said, it didn't really take away from this series that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I will probably read more of Hook's work simply because I loved the world she built so much. It was a character unto itself.

So, in conclusion, if you want to go an epic fantastical journey to a new, beautiful, and frightening world, definitely pick up this series. It's fun and easy to read and really a good time.

Light is a continuation book of Holly Hooks Flamestone trilogy.

Jaden has become a traitor to his settlement, turned over Wompitts greatest scientific mind to the Flamestone Society, in exchange for his mothers release only to be betrayed and cursed to the darkness. Bright lights cause him pain and the suns rays are toxic and will kill him. The best he can hope for now is to find his mother himself.

While he searches, he comes across more like him, The Disgraced. In danger of starvation and a fanatical leader they are doomed to the underground until a cure is found. What's worse, the guy he sold out, Antoine, is with them and he is not pleased to see Jaden.

Only a cure will free the Disgraced from their condition and Antoine and Weslie from their deal and escaping the depths of the tunnels, but finding it may prove too dangerous. But Jaden's not going to live the life of a coward anymore. He's going to help free the Disgraced and redeem himself even if it means his death.

This story picks up almost where Freed left off but focuses on Jaden after Garretts death and we get to see what happens with him instead of following Elaine as it is told from Jadens point of view.

Much of the story is of Jaden wondering through the tunnels in search of his mother and Elaine, or wondering through the woods and other landscape in search of a cure under the cover of darkness. When the action scenes do come up though they are really good and full of suspense and pretty detailed.

Hook is still the queen of the 'Plot Twist', with some outcomes, you kind of don't expect. Throw in the elements of a supposed cure, adventuring with the guy you betrayed, trying to evade the monsters of Selwyn and the crazy leader of the Disgraced, this results in an enjoyable companion book to the Flamestone Trilogy.

I was gifted a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I received a free copy of this novel from the author in exchange for my unbiased review of it.
Light is a follow up novel that wraps up the Flamestone Trilogy very nicely. You're reunited with Jaden as he has once again been separated from the rest and is beginning to see the strange goings on throughout the mines as the Dwellers move about gathering up all the people kidnapped and sold into slavery to the Dwellers by the old Society. Jaden is like them, the Dwellers, and he needs the Flamestone to survive but what he reallys wants is to go to Earth and to find his mother.
Jaden finds Weslie and Antoine but that's not all that he finds. He finds a book that could hold the answers to finding a cure to allowing him back up into the daylight again.
This book is well written. It's really gripping and is a real page turner keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout the constant danger of giant worms, ruthless Disgraced and even a volcano. This book is awesome. It has danger, hope and wraps everything up perfectly. This book gets the job done of keeping you engaged and giving you a great read that you will want to return to and read again in the future. This is a book I'd definitely recommend to friends for sure and fellow book lovers. Two thumbs way up.

I received this book free for a honest review.

Light is a continuation of the Flamestone Trilogy. It starts with Jaden realizing he is alone and no longer able to be in sunlight. As he makes his way through the tunnels, he is noticing that something is strange going on underground. He sees the dwellers taking off with the workers and he follows them. He follows them up a staircase and on the other side is Earth. The place that Jaden wants to be more than anything. He can only stay for a little bit though b/c the sunrise will kill him. Jaden goes back under and starts looking for the Disgraced. Once he finds them, he finds Antoine and Wesley. Things happen while there with the Disgraced and the three of them have to leave fast. They have to make their way to the top of the mountain to get Lightstone in order to save Jaden and the Disgraced and allow them to be able to be in the light again while being chased by a few of the Disgraced that want to kill them. You will have to read the book to find out if they were able to Jaden and the rest of the Disgraced!!!

I loved that this is written in third person. Since the Flamestone Trilogy is written in the main character Elaine's PoV, this choice adds to the credibility of the whole aspect of the Flamestone series. Although it's fantasy, it's kinda plausible to believe this could be real.
And I really love to read what happens to Jaden, Wesley and Antoine.
I would recomment reading this after reading the Flamestone Trilogy though, would be a little hard to follow if you're not familiar with this trilogy and also, it's worth your time!
Another great story in the world of Selwyn.

loved being able to read Jadens story. we find out that Jaden cant go into the light no more so is needing the cure alsoWhen he meets back up with Weslie and Antoine he finds out that they made a deal to stay in the caves until they find a cure to being able to go back into the daylight which we find out that Jaden needs the cure also. Jaden tells Weslie and Antoine that Elaine killed Garrett. Will Jaden and the Disgraced get their cure well you have to read to find out. Elaine also tells Jaden that his mom is alive and on Earth.

Jaden has survived, well he is alive, but what has he become? He struggles to find his way through the caves, to help make up for betraying his friends and still trying to find his mother. Once again Ms Hook makes us wonder about what goes bump in the dark. A story of redemption and friendship, an awesome read. I couldn't put it down until the last page when I was able to once again breathe. Great characters and exciting too!

This novel takes up right where the Flamestone Trilogy left off. At the end of the series we did not know what happened to Jaden, Weslie and Antione. Nice closure for the series. I liked the endings!
I also liked that we find out further details on Elaine. I will not give any details as it would be a spoiler for anyone not finished with the series yet.

This was a great finale to the series, even if it was just a companion book. I can't wait to read more from Holly Hook, which is also what I'm gonna be doing for the next few days as I read Thread and Spool (while also juggling to read New Moon at the same time)
