Good finale

This is the final book of the series. The final showdown set up takes most of the first of the book, but it's well worth the wait.

The story moved along well and all the ends were nicely tied up. If you read the first two, then you have to read this one. Well done on this book.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Save Aether is the third installment of young adult, steampunk Trinity Key series and picks up right where the second book left off, so it is recommended that those interested in this book read the first two installments before picking up this one. Julia, Theo, and Valera are now united in power by the Trinity Key and dealing with the consequences of their actions. This union also leads to some very entertaining telepathic conversations among the teenage girls. The goddess Danu is reaching out to them to rescue her and the girls are ultimately struggling with the choice to pursue this or not. They wind up making a choice which leads to some pretty wild twists and good action. Similar to the other books, there is a hint of a love story, but it doesn't overpower the rest of the book. The world building continues at the same level of the other books.

I really enjoyed the second book of the series and was hoping that this third book would be just as enjoyable. Unfortunately, I just wasn't as into this one as the last one. It felt like parts of the story were glossed over. Character development wasn't nearly as strong as the second book. The author did a good job of wrapping up the series by the end of this book with respect to the storyline with three main female characters. I definitely think there are opportunities for entertaining stories to be written about the other secondary characters, aside from the prequel novella.

Thank you to Allen & Unwin for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Save Aether is the third and final instalment in L.M. Fry’s The Trinity Key Trilogy and is a fast paced and deeply enjoyable conclusion to what has been a highly enjoyable trilogy!

Having united the Trinity key, Julia, Theo and Valera must learn to harness and control the incredible powers burning inside them. For Julia, discovering her powers also means discovering family she never knew she had and learning to trust those around her; a feat that isn’t easy for a girl who has been alone for most of her life. As all three girls are haunted by terrible nightmares where the goddess Danu calls out for help, Julia, Theo and Valeria must decide whether or not they will listen to the Elders of Aetherland or go with their guts and set the goddess free. Either decision will be dangerous, but will their choice not only be deadly, but fatal?

L.M. Fry’s Trinity Key trilogy comes to a close with Save Aether, another fast paced and entertaining novel in the series. After the previous book, Julia has now got her abilities as one of Danu’s daughters, able to control ice and the aether around her. Continuing to unfold through the perspectives of all three heroines, Save Aether sees a lot of developments and revelations to the storyline. Readers may be in for a surprise as the sisters learn the truth about the Trinity and what it means for them.

I’ve really enjoyed following the Theo, Julia and Valera throughout the trilogy. They’re all so different, but have worked well together. Their different personalities and backgrounds meant that they brought new perspectives to the story and I liked seeing them connect with each other and really become friends, even if Julia got off to a rocky start with Theo and Valera in the beginning of the series.

All the characters that supported the girls in this novel were great to read about but I have to admit, the hopeless romantic in me loved seeing L.M. Fry pair off each girl with a love interest as the series progressed. And best of all—no love triangles! It was simply Theo and Victor, Valera and Gideon and Julia and Eli—the cheeky guy who won Julia’s heart in Save Aether.

I’ll admit, I was a little perplexed by the ending of Save Aether; mainly the final few pages. Overall L.M Fry leaves the story with enough to hope that the characters will pick up the pieces of their lives and Aetherland, but at the same time, I think I wanted just a little bit more. I wanted to see a bit more of what happened after the final showdown with Danu; what happened to Theo, Julia and Valera and their guys? What happened to those left displaced after the destruction of their homes? Not everyone escaped unscathed—how did those characters handle their losses?

And yet, I understand why Fry ended the series as she did, even if I’ll miss Theo, Julia and Valera. Weaving steampunk with magic, The Trinity Key Trilogy is well worth a read for those who like spunky heroines, romance and plenty of action. I definitely recommend!

Save Aether starts where Escape Aether ends….with the girls on trial for combining the Trinity Key.

I will have to say that while I didn’t care for Julia in the first couple of books, I really liked her in this one. She was so snarky, such a wiseass that I was dying laughing while reading. Slammy Magee (aka Slammy) was a favorite nickname of mine that she gave one of the Elders….lol. She was a more act first then think later kid and it did help her out a few times in the book.

Valera continued to blossom into her own person in the book and I loved it. She was not the timid, meek girl that we met in Into Aether. She was not afraid to stand up for herself or her friends….even if that meant destroying her relationship with her mother, her brother and her siblings.

Theo got even stronger in this book. She was the brains and the backbone of the group and she always thought things through before acting. She also had the most control of her powers (behind Valera….Julia was last and she was still learning). Her relationships with Victor and her parents meant everything to her but she was going to do what was right by freeing Danu.

I absolutely loved the Danu storyline. If any of you guys are into Celtic mythology, Danu is the mother goddess of the Tuatha De Dannan (click here for the definition). See, at one point in my life, I was very much into Irish folklore and Irish mythology. So when I see it being used in a book, I get very excited (I know, complete nerd). The author did a great job of using the concept of Danu and giving her a huge spin. I really wasn’t ready for that spin when I read it….lol.

The ending was perfect for the series and I don’t think I could have written it more perfectly if I tried.

How many stars will I give Save Aether? 5

Why: A great ending to a great trilogy. This book packs a punch and pulls at your heartstrings.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age Range: Teen

Why: Very clean (no sex) and moderate violence

This trilogy is definitely a recommendation for Young Adults and Science fiction/Fantasy readers.

Amazing ending to the Trinity Key Trilogy!!! One of my favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy stories, I love the pacing, writing style, characters and story line. In the journey of reading this trilogy I can say that I became attached to the characters and story to a point that I didn't want to read this final book because I didn't want it to end.

I thought the story couldn't get any better until the incredible plot twist surrounding Danu happened, I was shocked, thrilled and anxious to see the ending result and it didn't disappoint. Loved the ending, although it was a little sad it carried meaning, peace and freedom for the Trinity.

Congratulations to the author for making such a wonderful and captivating trilogy that I couldn't stop reading the books until I finished them. Looking forward to read the prequel novella and any other book from this story that might be published in the future (I think there is still hope).

Note: I received a digital copy of this title courtesy of the author.

Save Aether – L.M.Fry
Since uniting the Trinity Key Valera, Theo and Julia are more like sisters than friends and their bond is going to be more important than ever with what they have to face. Since reuniting the key the girls have been experiencing vivid dreams and daydreams about the Goddess Danu, dreams in which Danu is trapped and calling out for their help.
The girls want to help her but the Elders are unconvinced so the girls need to decide whether to obey their wishes or to rescue Danu from her tomb.
