While visiting his brother in Texas, he is struck by the devastation wrought by the drought and wildfires. Learning the fire departments are staffed mostly by volunteers, he feels compelled to stay and help. Having little experience with this type of firefighting, Michael is forced to learn the basics quickly, making him vulnerable to the deteriorating situations in the largest and most destructive wildfire in Texas history. Eva is forced to go back home to New York with the constant worry of his safety on her mind.

With danger closing in on him, Michael comes to terms with what is important and must make a crucial decision that can change the lives of everyone he knows.

Compelling

What an amazing read. True, real meaning of love, care and commitment to life. Such an uplifting story and thanks to everyday hero's.

I liked this better than the 1st one, Through Smoke. I would recommend reading Through Smoke first though, to understand the characters and situations better. Again, Tate has a neat way of under playing some very angsty situations: Casey's struggle with kicking his additions and Mikey's lingering trauma from the awful things that happened in the last book. All three main characters have lots of heart and resiliance but are ordinary and very likable people.

Loved it

Loved the first book but this one was even better. I really enjoy J.R.Tate's story telling. I feel transported into the scene, pictured I was right there in New York, then Texas. Found I was so into the story it was hard to put down. Look forward to reading the next book.

This book picks up where book one left off. Drama, romance and recovery along with a major change in scenery. Describing the wildfires of Texas, it was very well done and drew you right into the scene. In my opinion this was even better than the first book. Enjoy!

Wildfires

This book is so good that I couldn't stop reading. I finished it in one sitting. J R Tate is an excellent writer that keeps you on the edge...of wherever you sit.
