Paige Johnson is used to cleaning up after her boss, Hollywood superstar bad boy Ryder Pryce-Reed. Nothing can shock her--not the countless "humped and dumped" women or the wreckage in the wake of his wild ways--until he asks her to marry him for a year.
Billionaire actor Ryder needs to marry for a year to claim his beloved grandfather's painting. Who better to help out than his big and beautiful assistant Paige? The rules are simple: give everyone a good show while keeping it strictly professional. But what happens when he can't keep his hands off his sassy, luscious "wife"?
Bilingual former management consultant Nadia Lee has lived in four different countries and enjoyed many adventures and excellent food around the globe. In the last eight years, she has kissed stingrays, got bitten by a shark, and petted tigers.
She shares an apartment overlooking a river and palm trees in Japan with her husband, winter white hamsters and an ever-widening pile of books. When she's not writing, she can be found digging through old Asian historical texts or planning another trip.
I was extremely irritated at the end of the book to discover what was the announced cliffhanger. Well, it is certainly not a cliffhanger, according to the Oxford dictionnary which defines one as follows: "A dramatic and exciting ending to an episode of a serial, leaving the audience in suspense and anxious not to miss the next episode". And why not so, because this so-called book just ends at the end of one chapter, with absolutely no ending provided to anything, while the so-called next book just starts at the beginning of the next chapter. That's extremely irritating to be taken for a fool and being sold one book for the price of two! Even if it was slightly longer than all the previous, it could well have fit into one unique book. Especially given the repetitions and lengthiness that could have been trimed significantly. For more on the content of the books themselves, please read my review for the second part of the book.
I love me a good fake relationship story. This wasn't amazing but I did enjoy it.
Ryder Pryce-Reed is a famous movie star and has many female admirers. He is also famous for being the humping and dumping kind. He even has a FB page dedicated to him by theses females that he has humped and dumped. Ryder came off as pretty self centered and immature. But he grew on me by the end. His parents are some of the worse I have come by in a while in a book. Especially his father. He's a piece of work that one. It's all his father's doing why Ryder must marry and stay that way for a year. His father gathered all five of his children together to inform them that they all must marry and stay that way for a year if they want to ever be able to collect any of their grandfathers paintings that he received when the man passed away. The grandfather meant a lot to all the kids so they are all willing to indulge in their fathers crazy especially when the man threatens to sale them to museums or burn them. He's a bit mad that his children didn't show up for his wedding to young and dumb bride #6. So this is their punishment of sorts. Ryder has the brilliant idea to marry his assistant Paige. He's always been attracted to her and all her curves and she knows all his demons. She's been a witness to his wild ways and has never sold him out. He trusts her completely. Paige just broke up with her boyfriend of two years and it didn't end very well. He was verbally abusive at the end and always commenting on her weight. She's a curvy girl and isn't ashamed of it no matter how many try to make her feel so. She didn't come away from the relationship with nothing though. No, she came away from it pregnant. She had tried to tell her ex but he was too busy calling her names and telling her what an awful lay she was and how fat she was to hear her. So she left and decided she didn't want him having any part of her child's life. The only problem is now she's alone and being a single parent terrifies her. She watched her mom struggling to raise her by herself for a long time before her mother finally found a wonderful man who she married and took on the father roll in Paige's life. So when Ryder asks her to marry him and that it's only for a year she thinks that maybe it will be the answer to all her worries. But things never go as plan and Ryder's drama is around every corner and now she's in the middle of it. I had a hard time believing that a painting no matter how sentimental could be so persuasive that it could make one marry a stranger or anyone. But hell, I guess people marry for stranger reasons. I about through my Kindle on how this one ended. I hate cliffy's and although I would like to move on to find out what happens, I didn't enjoy this enough to pay the money for the next book. But I might change my mind.
I like marriage of convenience but this was just bad on all counts. The plot was weak, the characters were thin, the casual misogyny towards background female characters made my skin crawl.
Having read quite a few romance novels not many books take me by surprise. This one did and it didn't. It had the same awesome feel to the rest of Lee's romances. It was as interconnected as the rest, the leading man being related to the Pryce family. A lot of other familiar characters are mentioned too. I read this book quicker than even I thought possible and downloaded the sequel immediately. I've got bags under my eyes because I sat up reading several nights in a row. Not that I'm complaining - it was 100% worth it!
Ryder and Paige were pretty awesome characters. I enjoyed reading about them quite a lot. Ryder was obviously very attractive but he had some very frustrating flaws. His inability to trust for one and both his and Paige's inability to communicate was so completely realistic that I loved it! It was exactly like life. It was fantastic to see such great characterisation. Ryder although pretty humble at heart was incredibly egotistical at times and often underestimated Paige.
I think I'd be remiss if I didn't address on of the biggest issues in this two part story. This book did a fantastic job of dealing with the issue of a woman's physical appearance within society. Although the romance genre has often been portrayed as the trashy sister of real literature, it's fantastic to see an author prove that so completely wrong. Literature has always been about sharing a message, be it a concept or idea, a dream or wish. Some of the best poems in history have been about war or politics, whilst some of the best fictional stories have spoken of women's rights and equality. A good story hooks it's reader in, but the best of stories after hooking you in, pushes you to think about something new. Perhaps society's expections as to our appearance is not a new realisation for most women but it's certainly worth the thought.
I found this book particularly challenging. I don't want anyone to take offence and so I'm choosing my words incredibly carefully. From the very beginning it was clear that Paige was not "model beautiful". She was not skinny. She had boobs and a bum; she had curves. That I could cope with. But I struggled to understand her size. In England where I live most people where double figured dress sizes so that didn't answer my question. I'm a size 10 in the U.K. which is quite an average size but I would say that although I'm not overweight I could be a healthier weight. So I couldn't determine if she was simply curvy or genuinely overweight. More importantly I struggled in my own mind to put Paige (if she was overweight) with Ryder (sexy superstar) and there was my first challenge because I devalued her in my own mind because of her weight. I was shocked with myself and quite disappointed. Then to see the way she was treated by other people who devalued her was truly humbling. Of course I'd never treat her that way but even I judged her and harshly for her weight. This book wasn't just a book about love and happily ever afters. It wasn't just a book about finding love but a book about what society demands of us and how damaging that expectation can be. Hats off to Lee because it's not often that a romance novel challenges me in this way.
There are so many reasons why I think you should read this book. The characters, the plot, the questions it inspires.
Ten million dollars or sexual pleasures for a year - you pick! My first book from Nadia Lee and I loved it, can't wait for the next installment. Paige is Ryder's assistant and is honest, loyal and very trustworthy. She has a crush on Ryder, like the rest of the female population, but is too professional to act on it and doesn't believe she's his type. He's a spectacular specimen of a man who appears fun-loving but is really a cynical party boy. He doesn't really trust anyone after his bitter upbringing. Circumstances call for Ryder to find a temp wife and Paige is the closest to anyone he would trust with the job, but darker forces are at work to create obstacles for these two. Bring on part 2!
Wtf, I have loved her other books, but what is with this story not being complete? It's certainly long enough to have a beginning, middle, and end. But no, it ends in the middle. I am highly annoyed. I won't buy the second half. I'll just fill in my own happily ever after. >:(
Also musste jetzt mein SuB mal wieder etwas entlastet werden.
Doch was hält Paige davon?
Alright, this has to be said right off the bat and it's likely to cause some dissention... the book ends in a CLIFFHANGER! Like most people, I detest cliffhangers. I see it as an author's way of trying to get me to buy the next book. This is not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, afterall, the author does have to make a living and I'm perfecty happy buying the next book just to continue readong the series. Give me a heads up and I can overlook a cliffhanger. However, if the blurb sounds interesting enough, I may put it on my wish list and wait until the second book is released before getting the first instead of getting it right away. That way, if I like it, I don't have to wait months to find out what happens. (This is a major pet peeve of mine. I can tolerate a cliffhanger but the chances of me getting the second book are nil if I have to wait 6 months for the next book. I read too many books and honestly, I'll forget all about it.) However, if the blurb outright states "Note: This book ends in a cliffhanger" and I choose to buy it and read it anyway, then honestly, who's really to blame there when I'm not satisfied with the cliffhanger conclusion? So is it really fair to give an author 1 star because of a cliffhanger? Or is it really my fault for picking it up and reading it already knowing that I'm not going to be satisfied when I finish it? It's like a person picking up a syfy book, already knowing they don't like reading syfy, then complaining afterwards because they didn't like the syfy elements. Then why did you pick it up in the first place? Life is too short. Spend your money and read something you're actually going to enjoy.
Ok, now that that is out of the way, about this book... I can't say I really liked Ryder at first. He just came across as a spoiled rich kid who was used to doing whatever he wanted and having someone else clean up his messes. Then we get to know him better. And realize that he's just a tortured soul that grew up with parents who never gave a crap about him other than to use him and his siblings to poke at each other. And you sort of feel for him. I still wanted to kick his ass, but I felt for the little boy who didnt feel loved by either of his parents.
The story was an interesting one and I have to admit that I actually enjoyed it. The characters were great. I found myself reading page after page waiting for the moment when they realized that they're meant to be together and wanting to yell at the characters that most of their problems would be non-issues if they learned to communicate with each other. lol
Overall it was an enjoyable read and in the end, although I was still frustrated that (as per the author's note in the blurb) there was a CLIFFHANGER, I can't wait to read what happens in the next book. I did a search on my lists and was surprised that I had never read this author before. Something that will have to be remedied. I quite enjoyed her writing style and her character building. Despite the cliffhanger, an author I'll definitely have to read again.
I struggled through this book throughout all the stupid plot twists for it to end on a cliffhanger. Wtf?!?!
What is with authors today where they feel the need to make every book in to a series with more twists than greys anatomy? Why would I want to struggle through each book for it to end on a cliffhanger?
Not worth it. Save yourself the time.
I can’t remember the main girls name cause it’s not said often. But! She’s the assistant to some fancy famous guy - Ryder. Actor? Singer? I don’t recall. So Ryder wants something from his crazy dad who requires all his children get married for a year. So Ryder and his assistant get married.
First rule she has in place: no sex. Second rule: he takes responsibility for her I burn child. She’s 5 weeks pregnant and her ex is lame but she doesn’t expect anything from him and doesn’t want any alimony or child support when they divorce after the year is up. 🙄
So two days later they have sex and Ryder tells her mum he wants two kids. And soon. Sooo ya. There’s that. Just super weird and strange that Ryder went from having 20 women orgies to settling down with one woman and having no trouble being monogamous and faithful.
Not to mention the fact that we find out 40% of the book in that she’s a bigger girl and all of Ryder’s previous girls were not. And there’s been nothing to clear up that.
Then there’s the whole fight between Ryder and his old friend. What was his name 🤔 I cant recall. But it’s your typical misunderstanding trope that’s gonna road to some nonsense. The men get in a fight. Girl falls down. She has cramping and bleeding.
Bam.
Miscarriage.
Bam.
End of book.
In a stupid romance novel. There’s a cliffhanger, in a stupid romance novel. Ridiculous.
Marriage of convenience. Boss marries his assistant.
Ryder, the Hero, is a famous actor, as a result he lives the lifestyle. The problem is he is an absolute manwhore type, the opening chapter, his assistant, the heroine, Paige enters his hotel room which is littered with women in several stages of undress. He finds him in the tub with several women. The idea that the heroine would be cleaning up his "messes" and getting rid of previous conquests and then end up falling with him is distasteful. I think the mistake is the scale of his reputation which is not unearned. The Hero has the usual dysfunctional family to excuse his behaviour.
The heroine refreshingly isn t a virgin, in fact she is pregnant with her ex's baby. I had an issue with this too, it's very serious not to tell a man he is going to be a father and it's even worse if you never plan on him finding out and cover it up.
There has to be a really good justification for not telling him, for example if he was abusive, but being a cheater is not in my opinion, as much as I disagree with cheating, a good enough excuse to deprive the father or the child a relationship.
Book ends on a cliffhanger.
There are no intimate details of anyone other than the Hero and heroine, though there are descriptions of naked women etc in his hotel at the start.
Ex drama. Her ex is within contact. The Hero has a past experience that involves a character from a different series which includes a dead ex.
Secondary characters for future books in series and updates of previous characters in other series by the author.
I mean, it wasn't bad. but it wasn't a masterpiece. a little bit too explicit in few passages if you ask me (I wasn't expecting a rip-off of 50 shades of grey, I'm so NOT into that type of stories). anyway, the "cliffhanger" was a predictable one as was the actual ending of this book. I was expecting a plot twist, but that's just my luck. thing is I don't know if I actually wanna read more of these two characters. they're cute and they definitely do have chemistry. but I believe most of the "hard times" have been all (well, almost) told in these few pages. I'm probably gonna take a look to the preview of the second volume... but that's it. it wasn't too boring to read, in fact it was super addictive cause as a reader you genuinely wanna know where this is going. what bothered me is the fact that these too care for each other, have sex with eachother, protect eachother and engage to eachother, but they never say the words. (but that's not a critique, it's just a dumb observation)
anyway.... should you read it? only if you can find it for free, as I did. it was on promo on the Kobo store and i was super curious about it. if you love the genre, go ahead. but myself... I'm not a huge fan. I read it for the plot and I was a little bit disappointed. but it was fun to read something light and stupidly romantic as this plot for once.

My Thoughts: This book had me interested in the beginning but as it went on, i was just getting tired of it. I felt as if the characters didn't have any substance and they didn't really develop over the whole book. This whole book was just not my cup of tea.
Also i think i'm done with new adult for awhile. This genre tends to be the same plot over and over again.
Ryder is a movie star and Paige is his personal assistant. Ryder's father calls his 5 children to his new home to reveal his plan of revenge on them for not attending his 6th wedding.
Ryder and his 4 siblings must marry within 6 months and remain married for a year or their father will dispose of his father's paintings. The siblings loved their grandfather and want the paintings that he created for them but they all must meet his stipulations or none of them will receive the paintings.
Paige gets caught up in a whirlwind of fame seekers, old wounds, family baggage and the man of her dreams. She's pregnant with her awful ex-boyfriend's baby and is trying to prevent reliving her mother's mistakes. Initially when Ryder proposes she doesn't even answer, after all he's drunk and upset. Then he takes the proposal back. Once they've returned home he speaks to his agent, Mira, about his father's mandate and she convinces Paige to help Ryder.

I know - I'm normally a pnr reader but every now and then I fancy a bit of chick lit and when I found this for free on Amazon it just appealed.
So we have your average woman, Paige who works as an assistant to Hollywood heartthrob play boy actor Ryder.
For 4 years she's watched over his appointments, dealt with his "hump & dumps" and sorted payments out to hotels for trashing them. Not once has she indulged in imagining herself with him. Because....well because she's average. Not what he normally picks up.
And for this special occasion it's just what Ryder needs. Someone he can trust, and also pull off a one year marriage to.
They both get something out of the deal.
But I don't think they were expecting to find the physical attraction that came along with it....!
it's built up nicely!
The only downside....?
It's a cliffhanger!!!!!!
Need the next book to find put what happens. And it's at one of those moments where your curiosity is peaked enough to want it!!!
Hollywood Deal was the first book by this author that I have read and I will tell you that I loved it. Yes it ends it a cliffhanger and I get that’s why not a lot of people liked it but that didn’t bother me. I loved the not knowing what is gonna happen next.
Ryder is a famous movie actor with many of female admirers. He’s got the repartition of hump them and dump them and he’s fine with that. Well that’s till he and his brothers and sister are told something that will rock their world upside down.
Paige is dealing with her break up from her boyfriend of two years. She’s a curvy girl and doesn’t care. She loves who she is. The down side is she came away from her relationship pregnant.
Ryder as to marry for a years and he asked Paige to merry him she thinks that maybe it’s the answer to her problems.
I was introduced to Ryder and Paige when I read Anthony’s story in the captivating Sins Trilogy. I had to know this couple’s story. It’s a “Marriage of Convenience” story between a major Hollywood Star and his loyal assistant. Their lives are very different. Ryder comes from a family with money but not much love. He spends his free time with sexy, wild women and booze. Paige has a loving family, a self-centered ex-boyfriend, and an unplanned pregnancy. It was refreshing Paige isn’t the typical book heroine, as she has a curvy figure and her clothes’ size is double digits, and is often referred to over-weight. Their arrangement should be straight forward, but old foes, a controlling agent, his Fans, their parents, and major trust issues makes their engagement a very unpleasant experience. With so many obstacles, it’s look doubtful this “fake” couple will ever see their wedding day.
Ok, so wow, wow! When you're at the point of wanting to jump in a book and give the characters a good shake or you're ready to scream at your kindle then you know you've not only found an amazing story but a tremendously talented author who can raise such emotions through her characters and stories. This is the first of two books covering Paige and Ryders story. What I thought would be a quick story where the leading characters fall in love and finally admit it at the end for a HEA is not what I got. I got a whole lot more. More angst, love, drama, great supporting characters and the feels.....oh 'the feels' I know my review cannot begin to do this book justice so I will beg and plead that you give it a chance. I guarantee you'll not be disappointed!
Generally speaking, I like a fake relationship story like the next girl, and this one was not bad at all. I got hooked, the story was fast paced, the characters were interesting and well developed, BUT that awful cliffhanger ending was just terribly executed. I get the whole cliffhanger ordeal- get the next book to figure out what happens, but this was just way to poorly done, like you are watching a movie and then at the end the tv breaks, and you are just pissed because it was just right in the middle of something. Since the story of fake relationships is as old as time, and this one did not captivate my interest enough, plus I haven't seen the other books on Kindle unlimited, I think this will be it with me. Not a bad read but not great enough for me to run and buy the next parts.
Let me say, "WHAT A CLIFFHANGER!!!" I absolutely can't wait to see what happens next!!!! This book was an AWESOME read!!!! Paige and Ryder have so much going on there at the end of the book!!!! I hope that this CLIFFHANGER doesn't ruin their chance at a happy ending. I really like these two together. Did I say I can not wait to read the next book in this series? Yes, I did. So glad to find this series and so glad that all the books are already out on these two. So now I must go find out what happens next. Stay tuned for my review on the next book!!!!! Love this book and Paige & Ryder so very much!!!!!
I downloaded the book because it was a freebie. I tend to try out new authors this way before investing money in their books. This book was only about 200 pages, which is always a bit of a let down for me when books are so short. It often feels like there could be more to the characters story if the books were a tad longer. I like to be invested in characters for days and I got through the first book within hours. As for the story, it was a bit predictable for me. I guessed everything that was going to happen and with whom early on. That could be because Ive read a lot similar books to this over the years. If you are new to these sort of books, its not a bad read.
I really enjoyed this book which I bought recently after reading the short series about Elliot and Annabella, I was eager to know how the rest of the siblings were going to fulfil their “obligation” to get married in the hope of getting their hands on the paintings their grandfather did of them. This book and the next one focus on the relationship between Ryder the Hollywood megastar and his assistant Paige. I wont ruin the plot, but will say it was just as good as the previous books, but be warned, it has a cliff hanger ending and you will want to read the next book.
