Another fun adventure with Yokoi and Seki. It hits all the beats with the robot family and Seki's little sister making appearances. The highlight of this volume is a game of life based on the Mad Max universe.
The front/back cover is fun too. How does Seki think up all these twisted stories?
Edit: I love the explanation that Maeda means "guy in front". LOL. Wish I realized it sooner.
The robot family has made another appearance only this time through photos. It was interesting and of course Seki took things a little too far and may have gotten into some trouble because of it.
The invisible top was pretty clever, as was the music class episode. And more robot family is always welcome!! All this makes me wonder if Rumi herself is ever able to get work done. She must be pretty smart because she rarely pays attention in class!
Another extremely funny and creative volume of Seki-Kun, the fact that we're 8 volumes and now over 100 chapters in and I'm still finding chapters that become new favorites is amazing. Seki's Lego people is an all-timer, and we get some really wild stories about addiction and bird gentrification.
I like that the dynamic has clearly shifted over the volumes while still maintaining the core of what makes the premise fun. Seki's games have gradually had more interference from outside actors, and while he still pulls off plenty of trickery, this is the most we've seen the teachers get involved and even Maeda-Kun, who's generally either unaware or ignoring the two gets a bit of payback in, but the series still gives us plenty of trickery where Seki pulls it off in the end.
The topics in this volume were at least related to more normal activities even if Seki's take on them is deeply bizarre. It was a bit easier to read than volume 7 for me.
Seki-kun is so hillarious. I like seeing kid playing those kind of games especially in this era when everything is digital. Seki and Rumi looks like having so much fun playing I think Seki actually is a smart boy and will be an amazing person later in life. Seems like Rumi will be around too lol
Continues to be delightfully inventive in all of the ways Seki goofs off, even as some items are revisited. I think it is telling that Rumi's original goal had been to get Seki caught by a teacher, but when that finally happens in one of these chapters she doesn't even celebrate.
Seki and Yokoi are back with his distractions and the outcomes. I'm realizing that Seki really will try anything at least once. Plus, it's fun too see the other characters being brought forward to help tell the story.
Ngerti gak sih? Saya ngomong berbelit-belit yak? Ahahaha.
*3 or more is good for comics, manga or graphic novels. I never really know how to rate some of these. There are some where I'm totally in love, know automatically it is a 5 star, but then some I am just not sure about in the first couple volumes.*
I love the series as a whole, it is cute and funny, but by the 8th, it really does start seeming repetitive. I wish he would talk to her or something, or they would go somewhere else.
This volume is still enjoyable, but the repetition is starting to wear on me, no matter how cleverly done. Seki's sister's pool adventure is a highlight of this volume. The creator needs to get the kids away from their desks more often and let them start living a little instead of keeping them locked in such an insular Spy vs. Spy format. More appearances of Seki's family would be welcome.
