It was supposed to be a fun, innocent Friday night. One simple mistake shattered my life. Then the dark clouds formed. And the rain came. The thunder clapped. I tried to brave it alone. But I couldn’t weather the storm by myself. I needed him…the most unlikely person. Chase Alexander. The stranger who saved my life and showed me a life after the storm. But we both had secrets… His would nearly swallow me whole.
********* Author Storm - The Complete Series is a stand-alone novel and was previously published in multiple volumes as Storm Vol. One through Seven
Storm is one emotional roller coaster of a ride. Brynn is a freshman in college and she finds herself in one overwhelming situation. Trying drugs for the first time at a party she finds that things are not simple and innocent any longer. Things get out of hand and Brynn is terrified. Then Chase, a total stranger to her, shows up.
Chase rescued her and she felt an immediate bond with him. She was drawn to his stunning green eyes and perfect timing. The book is well written and is hot. The sex is hot and the characters are confused and driven.
Brynn and Chase find that they are totally drawn to each other and even though Brynn makes some really bad decisions Chase is there to help her.
Chase and Brynn have both had a tough time in their life and this keeps coming up in their relationship. The dynamic between the two is so powerful that it is pretty overwhelming for them both. Brynn meets up with an old friend from school and tries to move ahead without Chase, but she keeps getting drawn back to him. This is just as hard on Chase as it is Brynn.
Brynn has to make some decisions that are very hard at the time. The writing in this book is very powerful and keeps you riveted. You need to know what is going to happen next. You want them to find happiness, but they seem destined to only find heartache. It is a very emotional read. I really felt for the characters, their good and bad feelings were very real to me. I thought it was a great book and was glad that I was given a copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book to give an honest review for the author. *spoilers* Brynn is the main character, a freshman at college on a lacrosse scholarship who right away gets into drugs and becomes addicted. She finds herself at a frat party at the beginning of the school year drinking and dancing the night away with a frat guy named Connor. She ends up leaving the party with him and gets herself into trouble when he tries to take things farther than she OK's. Just when she thinks she's going to be raped, in comes Chase. Chase saves the day. Out of nowhere, in the dark alley in the back of Connors car, Chase grabs Connor off of Brynn and beats him up. Throughout the story we come to learn that Connor is known for assaulting and threatening girls. He fees because his family has money and power in the community, that he can get away with anything. In the end, he does finally get locked up on multiple charges of assault. Brynn and Chase bond over the attack. She doesn't go to the police right then because of past experience. See her mom is know for dying deadbeats that abuse her and the police never do anything about it, so Brynn doesn't have much faith i n the system. Later in the story, her mom gets betten severely and is hospitalized. Come to find out it is Chase's father who is the man who is arrested for assaulting her mother. Throughout the story, Brynn is with Chase, then not with Chase, the with Chase, not with Chase. When his father is on trial for the assault Brynn "officially" breaks it off with Chase. In between times ( for some reason this story line seemed completely unnecessary) Brynn runs into an old high school nerd turned hottie Noah at the end of one of her lacrosse games. They end up hooking up at the same time she's still trying to figure out things with Chase, even sleeping with both within a day or two. Her and Noah bond for a week or two but then he makes a deal with none other than Connor, Noah sees nothing wrong with Connor, and when Brynn tells Noah about what Connor did to her, Noah takes Connors side. So stupid. This ends things between her and Noah. Between all of this happening, she finds some girl rummaging through her things in her closet in her dorm room. That night Brynn gets pulled over while driving Chase home after his car breaks down. The cop finds drugs in her gym bag. Chase takes the rap for her and gets taken to jail. She just can't seems to figure out how the drugs got there since her nor Chase had them. Seriously. Would a strange girl in your closet not b the first thing you thought of?! Nope. It remains a mystery until the girl confesses and says Connor threatened her. Chase eventually gets cleared of all charges. In the end it was a hea ending, but Chase didn't really deserve to end up with Brynn. I feel she hurt him too many times. Brynn just never seemed to know what she was doing or how she hurt people. I didn't like her character at all and the overall story was just OK for me.
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. We meet Brynn at a college frat party where she is introduced to the world of drugs by a “friend”. This lands her in the hands of Connor, who is all too willing to take advantage of a less than cooperative girl. As he is assaulting her, Chase *sigh* comes to her rescue and not for the last time throughout their story. I love the way fate seems to keep throwing them together at every turn.
First off, I LOVE CHASE!! Chase is the kind of man you want backing you up in any situation as Brynn is well aware of. He saves her life not once but twice. This HOT tattooed boy is not without his faults and demons that haunt him, but he is so sweet and caring and has a kind heart. He loves big and hard. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for Brynn, which I LOVE!!
Brynn had me feeling all kinds of emotions from wanting to smack her for treating Chase so badly at times, blaming him for things that were not his fault, to crying for her in trying to kick the drug habit she keeps getting sucked into. The one thing that did turn me off a bit about Brynn was that she was a bit too promiscuous. I didn’t like how easily she would forget about Chase when she was with Noah and how as soon as she was with Chase she’d start having feelings again for him. It made me feel that her love for Chase wasn’t as strong as Chase’s love for her. I didn’t really trust or like Noah anyway, something about him…..hmmmm! And that whole Aiden Ashton affair…oh wow!!
I really liked the story, the pace was overall good. The twists and turns in the story had me turning the pages so fast to see what was coming next. The subject matters dealt with in this book were gut-wrenching especially Brynn’s descent into drug use, and her friend, Kim’s situation. That had me bawling!!
There were a few unanswered questions that I wanted the author to explore further. What happened with Connor? Did he go to jail? What happened to Aiden Ashton? Did he lose his job for having an affair with Brynn? Did he go back to his wife? Did Brynn’s mother continue on the recovery path and forget about that loser boyfriend? What happened to Chase’s father after he was “sentenced” for attempted murder? Is that sentence even possible? That situation really made me mad. Who was the person following Brynn when she left the police station after Chase got arrested for drug possession? Was that Connor? I could keep going but you get the gist of it. I would definitely read more books from this author.
The beginning of the story sucked me in. Here we have Brynn--college freshman on a lacrosse scholarship. She had a very crappy upbringing and has had to endure things most people don't. One night at a frat party she decides to try some coke and ends up almost being raped by one of the frat boys. As she's trying to fight her way free, she gets rescued by the gorgeous green-eyed hunk Chase. He beats the crap out of the almost rapist and takes Brynn home to tend to her wounds. She doesn't want the police involved since she was high as a kite at the time of the attack, and she's also afraid of losing her lacross scholarship due to drug usage. Several run-ins with Chase has Brynn constantly drooling over him until they finally start dating.
Now here's where the story starts driving me freaking nuts....
Brynn had a crappy upbringing and is trying to have a better life at college. Her lacrosse scholarship was the key to getting her away from her hometown and those that could hurt her. You would think after the first night of being high on coke and almost raped that she would stay away from the drugs. But no....she keeps going back again and again, hit after hit. The book blurb made it sound like she was able to keep fighting after continually getting knocked down. Instead, she keeps letting crappy things happen to her because she can't stay away from the drugs. She also can't make up her freaking mind about anything--friends, drugs, boyfriends, school. The back and forth for me was frustrating as hell. I wanted to reach into the book and smack the ever loving crap out of her! The two main characters did not get their crap together until the epilogue. I don't really feel the description of "his secret would nearly swallow me whole" is apt. It was very hard for me to finish this book. I finished it because it was an ARC, but it was most definitely not my favorite story. I felt there was a lot of promise with the plot, but it just didn't really deliver.
**I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
You know that a story is well written when it sucks you in and won't let go! "Storm: The Complete Series" by Evelyn Rosado is a perfect example of this! I'd give it a 10 out of 10 stars if I could, that is just how amazing it is!!!
Brynn and Chase are so amazingly well written.....they just exude this kind of magnetism that makes them turn real, almost as if they are sitting right in front of you! While reading about their rocky start and their push/pull relationship, you can't help but feel every single one of their reactions and emotions. When they cry....you cry; when they are happy.....you are happy; and just when you think it couldn't get any worse, the other shoe drops BUT unlike the way people tend to flee at the first sign of hurt or pain, their magnetism pulls them to where they belong.....with each other! I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to read a love story that hits you in the chest and makes you long for a relationship like Brynn and Chase's.
Evelyn Rosado is not your run of the mill kind of writer! She keeps you on your toes with every page. Just when you think you have reached the "happily ever after" part of the story, she makes you have to read "just one more chapter" while you are saying "I did NOT see that coming" to yourself! I have found a new favorite author; which I will gladly catch myself looking at the clock and saying, "it's 3:30 in the morning.....and even though I don't want to put this down, my alarm will be going off soon, so I better catch a nap before it goes off," just so I can read how the story ends!!
*Disclaimer: I received a copy of this series in exchange for an honest review by the author. (Thanks Evelyn!)*
This book was a tough read. The writer was not afraid to tackle very heavy subjects, and boy there were many. Each subject was handled with sensitivity, I felt, and all fit into the story. For once, I preferred Chase to Brynn as he had more integrity than she did. I enjoyed this book overall and would happily read more from this writer.
I loved this series. I started it when it first came out, but completely forgot to check for the new books. I felt a lot of stress because of the situations our heroine had to endure. the only thing that put me off was several times there were double word (s) in a sentence that made it hard to follow along sometimes.
I have very mixed feelings about this book. I felt like it was all over the place and hard to keep up with. I think it brought some very important topics up but I just never really fell in love with the main character.
