Russell Wheeler, an enforcer-turned-contractor, spirals into a violent tailspin when his daughter is slaughtered for a snuff film. With his limited resources, including his trusty framing hammer and his criminal connections, Russell hunts the people responsible for his daughter's vicious death. He finds himself digging into the pits of hell, delving into a world of unimaginable depravity... Jon Athan, author of The Harbinger of Vengeance and Sinister Syndromes, invites you to join the lucrative snuff industry. A world of opportunity, lust, riches, and death awaits you... This is the first book in The Snuff Network series, although the first three books can be read in any order. This book contains scenes of graphic violence, disturbing themes, and some sexual references. This book is not intended for those easily offended or appalled. Please enjoy at your own discretion.
Thanks for getting me out of my reading slump, Jon! 👏 This guy’s books are reliably NASTY, compulsively readable, fast-paced, and very dark. Everything I love. This is the 5th book I’ve read of Athan’s and I absolutely can’t wait to check out more!
Another great book. This one isn't as gory as Family of Violence, at least not right away. Once things do get going though the blood flows nicely. This is a mix almost of a crime thriller and extreme horror. Reminded me a little bit of Survivor by JF Gonzalez, though this one didn't have the psychological trauma that one did. Still highly enjoyable and was never boring.
I've stated in part 3 that I read these books out of order. The author informed me in his notes at the end of the book that the first 3 books are standalone. That being said, part 1 was interesting a deranged father seeks revenge on those who murdered his daughter. Mr Wu, the owner and main character in all 4 books. Now, since this is part 1 and there are 4 books in this series, it's not really a spoiler to say Wu doesn't die in part 1. When there is the title in part 4 called Kill Wu. So part 2 will be interesting, knowing it is a standalone and not really tied to part 1 except the main boss and the snuff industry.
Russell's daughter is missing, a phone call from the police. Russell is made to watch his daughters murder on video by the police to identify her. The small stabbings at first, words cut into her skin, an eyeball removed with a spoon. Russell has revenge pouring through his veins. He grabs a hammer and through information starts to find the killers. The first has his nose splintered, cartilage smashed, a palm pulverised. Another buried alive in concrete, the stuff flowing down his throat, suffocating him beautifully, pain raging. He finds the warehouse, the horrors worse than the movie hostel. Rooms of depravity filmed, capitulated. A necro in the act of burying his balls will be shot, splattered, sprayed on the shit covered walls, his dick shot off. Another with his Achilles hacked apart. Russell on a rampage of revenge, no thought of self preservation, just kill and purge evil. Not as gory as some of his other books.
This is my first book by this author and let me say I was pleasantly pleased. The start of this book kept me glued to the pages. First and foremost you must know when starting this book it’s going to be full of blood and gore and horror. The story follows Russell as he tracks his daughter’s killers. Violence laces every page of this book in page turning goodness. I never saw the twist in the end coming. For lovers of gore and shock this book is perfect for you. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
A revenge story about a father, Russell Wheeler, whose daughter goes missing. A snuff film is discovered by police and he identifies his daughter as the victim. Thus begins a tirade of vengeance and fury to not only take down the leader of the snuff industry, Mr. Wu., but to kill as many of his employees and clients along the way.
A parent’s desperate journey for vengeance. Luckily Russell has connections to help him move along in the story since he used to be a bad guy who turned into a good guy.
Unforgiving. Brutal. All the triggers present and it’s extremely fast paced, not staying on one scene or event for too long. I’m intrigued to see where this series goes as this won’t be the last time we see Mr. Wu.
Mr. Snuff is smart, well written, and fun. Unlike some of Athan's more extreme books, this one is more of a suspense novel, one that practically begs to be made into a movie. If you can imagine Taken meets Seven, staring Gerald Butler and directed by Rob Cohen, then you would have an idea of what you're getting yourself into. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My one disappointment was that it was somewhat predictable. By the halfway point, I had correctly predicted how the book would end. That being said, the foreknowledge didn't take anything away from the journey, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Titles can be deceiving. But maybe not in this case 😳
This is my first time reading Jon Athan and it was a very interesting read.
The subject matter is a little disturbing but it didn't feel like it's been glorified. It was handled well here.
It's mostly a tale of one man's vengeance against the sickos that took his daughter's life. Think Death Wish etc...
WARNING: There are a few scenes of extreme violence & other things I won't describe. Not recommended for anyone who finds such things difficult to read.
This novel had a lot of promise for me. The plot reminded me a lot of the 8 mm movie. However it lacked the emotional depth of that film. There was violence and the storyline was dark, but it just felt like it was lacking. It didn’t give me the gut punch I expected when I started. In some ways it felt like it promised brutality and violence but we got the PG-13 version of that. It wasn’t horrible, it just didn’t give me what I expected completely.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book and its premise. Seemed more real to me because the subject matter exists in the real world and I could imagine the scenarios and actions of the protagonist
I really didn't care for this Jon Athan book. I was excited by the buildup but sadly, I was let down by the ending. Russell did get his revenge BUT needed one more death to close the circle.
Thank you, Jon, for another cringe worthy book. You have done what others have only alluded to...given me skin crawling horror at its twisted AF finest!!!! Your books truly deliver when it comes to depravity!! Off I go to read another one of your books!!!
This was a book that could have been better. The author moves the story along nicely, but it is consistently derailed by incorrect vocabulary. The author could use an editor, but I have hope for his future.
I enjoyed this, having read a few of his other stories this wasn’t quite as gory as some have been. Not an easy to read about but I felt invested in the main characters which is what you want in a story such as this. I look forward to the rest.
I enjoy all of your books and I am thankful that you write new books frequently. This one was a little pg for your style but it was still a great read. Now off to book 2.
A good revenge story! I will admit, a lot of the story seemed rushed and some parts could have been developed better. But for one of Jon Athan’s earlier novels this was very good. Makes me excited to read the other 3 books in the Snuff Network series.
The book was just okay. I’ve read much better from Athan, so this one fell a bit short by comparison. The concept had potential, but it didn’t hold my attention the way his other books have. Still, I might give book two a chance to see if the story picks up or the pacing improves.
Mr. Snuff was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The suspense, the gore, the description, all wonderfully executed. I already have the next two in the series so I’ll be going right into the next!
Grimy, gruesome tale. I liked Athan's story telling ability, though he used the word "reverberate" a gazillion times throughout the book. I enjoyed it.
I chose this book because Jon Ethan has become one of my favourite authors. His books include violence and horror without being repetitive and becoming boring.
