I’m sad to see the end of the Willow Son series, but this book is definitely the best of the series. Brantley is the drummer who has been pretty quiet through the previous books, you know what they say about still waters running deep. Well, it turns out he’s been hiding a big secret from his band – a son! The result of a one stand that Brantley always felt like she was the one that got away. When he found out he was going to be a father, he followed the advice of his manager and made sure they baby and the mother were taken care of financially, with the caveat that all communication go through the manager. Emma agrees to the arrangement because she doesn’t want to kill Brantley’s dreams of becoming a rock star.
A few years go by, the band makes it big and Brantley is lonely now that all the rest of his band have found their significant others. He thinks about Emma and his son Seth. Emma and her father and friends have done a great job raising Seth, but he has ongoing problems and is in and out of the hospital multiple times even though he’s only four years old. Turns out the only thing that may help him is a blood transfusion from someone else with the same rare blood. Emma is not a match for the rare blood type, so she contacts the manager and asks Brantley to help.
Brantley immediately goes to help and finds a wonderful kid and a woman that stills entices him. The way Brantley slowly earns Seth’s trust is so wonderful to see. Brantley and Emma also find out that they can’t keep their hands off each other. The unfolding of how Brantley slowly and thoughtfully earns his way into Emma, Seth, Emma’s Dad & friend’s lives is wonderful and romantic. He knows he has to earn his way in their lives, he never expects to just come in and take over.
The story also includes the rest of the band and their significant others rallying around Emma & Seth. A true rock star ending to the series.
