They call me The Scorpion because I’m fast, lethal, and I pack plenty of heat.
ALEX When you’re street muscle for the biggest drug cartel in North America, you’re hard or you’re dead. I’m alive as f*ck, because I get the job done.
My boss swore kidnapping the accountant’s daughter would be quick and easy. Just find Tessa at the wedding, stuff her into a car and let someone else drive her off.
Not dance with her all night. Not beat up the driver for being drunk. Not take her to the safe house yourself.
The only thing more dangerous than doing my job is not doing my job. But for her?
Sign me the f*ck up.
TESSA Here’s a tip: if a tall, impossibly sexy man starts flirting with you at your friend’s wedding, run the other way.
Don’t flirt back. Don’t dance with him, and absolutely do not fool around with him, no matter how much you want to.
Otherwise, you might get kidnapped by an arrogant, swaggering, cocky jerk who thinks he’s God’s gift to women. One who also happens to work for a powerful Mexican cartel… a.k.a. your father’s former bosses.
You might wind up stuck together in a safe house, deep in the desert.
Worst of all, you might find out he’s cocky for one really good reason - and you might like it.
Whatever you do, don’t fall in love.
Loaded is a complete, 80,000-word standalone novel - happily ever after ending and all. It ends at about 60%, because the ebook edition also includes a FREE BONUS novel, Shifters & Soulmates.
Roxie is a romance author by day, and also a romance author by night. She lives in Los Angeles with one husband, two cats, far too many books, and a truly alarming pile of used notebooks that she refuses to throw away.
She's the author of the Loveless Brothers series, the upcoming Wildwood Society series, and a bunch of other books that are also delightful.
If you haven't read this author, I implore you to give one of her books a try. I'm so impressed with Roxie Noir's talent. I'm glad I stumbled onto her book Convict, which started my love for them. There is just something about her writing style that makes her stand out to me.
In Loaded, I think a lot of the bad boy lovers out there will be satisfied by her portrayal of Alex. He's just the right mix of wrong and right. He lives a very dangerous life in the cartel that leaves him with very little choice in his life. The fact that he risks all for Tessa will make you fall hard for him.
I was thrilled the author had Tessa cautious. She didn't fall down on her knees and say I'll do whatever you want. She was feisty but she was also a good girl. Her attraction to Alex made her question things. She didn't make her decisions lightly. Because of this, Alex had to work harder for her. Despite her caution, she still liked to poke his anger that had Alex turning it into some intense sexual tension.
My only question to Roxie is...what's next? I'm ready for more! ARC provided by author.
This is a re-read of the revised edition of Loaded
I originally read this when I was still relatively new to e-books and all the goodness they offered. If a book wasn’t paperback and on sale I didn’t know it existed. When I first read Loaded I liked it…a lot. Now, having read so much more of what’s out there, I understand that this book isn’t just good…it’s awesome!
Alex is assigned the task of kidnapping Tessa. There is an outline of how he is to do it but things don’t work out that way. There’s just something about this woman. I loved how protective and possessive he was over her. Tessa first sees Alex and knows that she’s not his type. However, as the evening progresses she lets her inner snark shine and oh boy does that hook Alex.
Alex is definitely one of my most favorite bad boys and a definite anti-hero. He made some decisions that crushed my heart but there was no other choice he could’ve made. Tessa pushed him away a little too much at times but then again, he was her kidnapper, so yeah, I would’ve struggled as well.
This is one insanely hot, fast paced read that took some turns I never saw coming. Thank you Roxie Noir for revisiting an old favorite and making it even better!

Dual POV Safe – although h tries to date other men Some possible triggers – bad guys talking about what they want to do to her
Ugh ok so I get this isn’t a serious book I was just looking for a fun read after reading 3 disappointing books in a row but I am so tired of white washed characters! Alejandro is Mexican but everyone calls him Alex so the readers can forget he’s Mexican he’s half white but looks like a tan white man not Mexican because why would readers think Mexican men are attractive right? Don’t forget his best feature! Aryan blue eyes! Swoon! This book is just a fun dirty read I get that but I’m tired of reading about half white characters whose best features are the European ones
Hot alpha male - check. Smart, beautiful, sassy female - check. Lots of action, excitement, and thrills that add to the already intense chemistry between the abductor (Alex) and abductee (Tessa) - check. Tessa's father made a bad decisions and she's paying the price. Alex was supposed to drug her and hand her off to the cartel street muscle to do the rest of the dirty work but things do not go as planned. Tessa feels attraction and repulsion for this man who is holding her captive. Alex makes no secret of the fact that he loves women but he feels a possessiveness for Tessa and might not be able to give her up when this is all over. Tessa struggles with her feelings for the man who has rocked her world but will always be the man who kidnapped her. I loved this book with all the action and steamy, sexy times... and there are a lot of those.
Tessa is the daughter of an accountant who has found himself in trouble and they are using her to straighten him out. Alex is the sexy and dangerous man whose job it is to get Tessa to the parking lot and driver. But after dancing and other things, the driver is drunk. Alex takes her to the safe house and stays instead. The banter and playfulness between the two keeps their attraction strong and growing through the whole story. Then when the orders finally come down Alex has to choose Tessa or the people he works for.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book
I can't get enough of Alex and Tessa's story. This version isn't much different that the original and in love it the only difference is Alex and Tessa gets a better ending. Love it and love the cover. I would recommend this to all my friends. Roxie does not disappoint when it comes to her books. I voluntarily read a review copy of this book
I really like Roxie Noir her books but I must confess that ‘Loaded’ isn’t really one of my favourite. I can’t really tell you what it was that made me like the book less. From the blurb I expected a more darker story and although there is some killing in it. I didn’t find the story very dark or suspense. I also missed some depth in it. I did enjoy the banter, the chemistry between Alex and Tessa but for me the ‘problem’ of Alex old job was solved a little bit too easily. The story is told from both POV’s.
Tessa lives a simple life. Her mother is dead so it’s only her father and her. Her boyfriend ended the relationship recently so she’s single again. Something that isn’t really pleasant when you have to go to a wedding but then she meets a handsome stranger there. And Tessa does things that she has never done before, like making out outside on the terrace with a stranger and then following him to his car. The last thing that Tessa expected was for the stranger ‘Alex’ to kidnap her!! But he did just that!
Alex had a job to do, a job his mob boss said was very easy. Just kidnap the accountant’s daughter so they can make sure that her father doesn’t talk about their business to the police. But the moment that Alex met Piper he knew that things wouldn’t be easy. And he was right. Nothing went right that night so he had to improvise but the more he did that the more the situation got out of hand.
One of things that Alex didn’t count on was spending a long time with Tessa alone. A very dangerous thing because it becomes more and more clear that Tessa is in danger. And to save her he has to go against his boss wishes. Something that you don’t do except when you have a dead wish!
Is Tessa really worth it all? Can he save her and himself from this dangerous enemy?
So if you’re looking for a ‘light’ story with a lot of sex in it then this is a story for you. If you’re looking for a dark and suspenseful story, this isn’t the one.
I stepped a little out of my comfort zone with this one. It’s a m/f, with a cartel lieutenant who becomes obsessed with the daughter of the cartel’s accountant. I loved the narrators, they did a fantastic voices. The chemistry between him and her is potent. I did not love the cartel stuff and the casual violence. She gets yanked around a lot in the book, and I did not enjoy that.
Once again, I hate myself for taking so long to read this book. Tessa and Alex's story was simply WOW! I just loved them and Tessa especially because she truly didn't give a single shit about what Alex thought and how she literally would rather die than be near him. This does have some kidnapping and although there were certain parts that I was scared that Alex would cross that line, he never really does. Yes, he does kidnap her but he didn't drug her and everything was consensual which I think is something important that I need to highlight. Also, I love how even after when Tessa gets rescued that it's not really the end. There is a twist that I didn't see coming which surprised even me since I was just like WTF is going on? The actual ending was just so perfect and beautiful for me. Every time I read a Roxie Noir book, I think that I've found my favorite book couple by her and I read a new book and I'm just mistakenly wrong.
The tropes in this book are definitely kidnapping and enemies to lovers.
I don't think there are any trigger warnings but there were mentions about being drugged but it never happened.
This book is another example of Roxie Noir fabulous work. This proves that she can write anything. She set the bar so high with this first book that she is going to have her work cut out for her when she writes the second book. The story line is impeccable and the characters flow right with it. She grabbed my attention from the beginning of the book and held it till the end of the book. Oh and the man on the cover helped to imagine what Alex looked like. There were so many emotions that I felt while reading this book. I laughed, cried, fell in love, got mad, and wanted to kill!!!!! Definite sign of an AWESOME author!!!! I highly recommend this book for mature readers 18 and up because of the sexual content and the violence in the book. I'll take one Scorpion to go!!!!!
Alejandro "The Scorpion" or Alex is a hired killer for the "La Carretera" which is the biggest drug cartel in North America. La Carretera is extremely dangerous especially if double crossed. Alex wasn't given the name Scorpion for now reason, it was given to him because he struck fast and deadly. Alex is given the task of kidnapping the daughter of their accountant. His boss told him that the kidnapping would make the accountant see things their way and then they could let the daughter go. All he had to do was attend a wedding take the girl and stuff her into a car and let someone else drive her off. He finds her so attractive that he wants her and he couldn't do the plan, he had to have a dance with her and he wanted more.....His deviation from the plan resulted in him beating up the drunk driver and taking her to the safe house in the desert himself.
Tessa is the daughter of the accountant that was trying to turn states evidence against La Carretera cartel. The head of the Cartel known as Manny wanted the girl kept hostage till her father saw things his way and quit threatening to turn states evidence against them. Tess is at her friends wedding when he catches her after she trips on her dress. He said his name was Brent, and they dance, then she fools around with him. What she doesn't know is that she about the be kidnapped by this handsome stranger and taken to a safe house. Where they will stay till he gets word from his boss that he can turn her loose or she will have to eliminated!
Will Alex be able to let her go, or will he have to kill her? Can Alex and Tessa make it out alive? Or will they both die trying?
NO SPOILERS!!! ARC free book given for honest review.
I can't believe I'm actually saying this about a book, but I thought this book was too much sex and little substance. The blurb was promising - I love a good darker romance/suspense novel and was looking forward to a romance intertwined with a cartel storyline.
Alex works for a cartel and he's tasked with kidnapping Tessa to keep her accountant father from ratting out the cartel to the feds. Alex has killed many people in his days as an enforcer and muscle for the cartel, but he doesn't do much of that these days now that he's moved up in the ranks. One thing he definitely does do is hurt women, so he's hesitant to kidnap Tessa, but of course, if he disobeys the boss, he could lose a finger or two.
To kidnap Tessa, he has to attend a black tie wedding that Tessa is a guest at, but things don't go as planned when he gets one look at her and the chemistry heats things up before he attempts to kidnap her. Of course, he does kidnap her and takes her to a remote location while he awaits word that Tessa's dad has cooperated.
There's no denying the chemistry between Alex & Tessa. For whatever reason, their insults toward each other and banter turn the other on. Whatever works for them, I suppose. It's no surprise that they end up having sex.
What I didn't expect was for half the book to be just that. Honestly, I listened to the audio book and zoned out during the last 5 or 6 sex scenes. They became the same ol' same ol' after a while and I lost interest. I liked the build up of their relationship and story in the beginning, but once sex was introduced, that seemed to end the exploring of the relationship and made what they had seem shallow.
I did like what Alex ends up doing though and felt he really made a change for the better. Tessa annoyed me to no end when she kept saying that she couldn't be with her 'kidnapper' since he stopped being her kidnapper when she decided to have a lot of sex with him. Yeah, he still kept her and did some bad things, but it was only to protect her. So I forgave him and moved on and believed he had changed, she should have to. That same argument just grew old. At least she got her head and heart together in the end and they get their HEA.
Not my favorite Roxie Noir book, but I'll consider this one an anomaly.
I actually really liked this despite the plot being about a woman falling for her kidnapper. I think maybe because the characters were so aware of the absurdity of the situation? I don't know but I enjoyed reading this. It is well written and I liked the characters. I lovvvee a strong female character and this book delivers just that.
Great characters in this book, really engaged with both of them. Alex if Alpha and arrogant enough without being over the top to the stage he just pisses me off. Tessa is a just perfect mix of common sense with silliness.
I don't know what to say about this book other than I'm so in love with Alex & Tessa in this story and I want more ... So many things happen in this book but you just can't put it down ... Could you love a guy that kidnapped you ? A must read
Wow, oh wow! I freaking loved this book! I didn't read the first copy that was published but this book only has minor changes and a longer ending in this book.
Alex was totally hot! I loved his filthy mouth. He was instantly attracted to Tessa, even though he only saw a photograph first. He was told to kidnap her so her father wouldn't talk to the FBI. He's now a Lieutenant instead a foot solider in the Mafia. He doesn't hurt women but he's supposed to drug her and put her in the SUV but his night doesn't go as planned. Tessa was a fire cracker. She has such a strong, independent personality and she comes alive around Alex. She says she a, lights out-in the dark, missionary position kinda girl! But Alex changes all that and more for her.
I totally loved their chemistry. I loved that she was feisty and gave him a run for his money. I loved that she didn't back down from him. Like she said, she should have been afraid of him but she wasn't. She felt safe around him and in his arms. Alex totally changed himself too and that was all down to Tessa. I was rooting for these from the first page. I couldn't put it down once I finally able to start. I needed to know how it all played out. Even though Roxie said there was a lot of sex in this book, (by they way, there is. Especially the last half of the book), it was still a brilliant read. It didn't take away from the book only added to it. They shared little snippets of themselves during those times too. Things that each other didn't think the other would remember. I loved their banter back and forth. Man was I scared when Alex left her to the FBI. I don't know where it would go from there. I was so sad when he died. I was hurting for Tessa, even as she tried to move on with her life. But is he still alive? Will Tessa get the love of her life back? You'll have to read to find out.

Oh my Heart!!! This read was so damn good, good, good!!! Before I continue, I just have to tell you that I simply just fell in love with the main male character, Alejandro Villalobos. If you haven't guessed by now, the title of my review is the translation of his name. He is written to be as dirty, bad and hot as sin. He does the unthinkable to defend the woman his criminal organization told him to drug and kidnap. He is as cagey, intelligent and alluring as an Alpha Wolf. And all the ways he shows his desire...well it is enough to make a good girl turn bad. Tessa is an educated, beautiful and feisty woman. She was just made to order for Alejandro (Alex). She tears herself inside out over her unfailing and continuing attraction to such a violent man because he fulfills her every sexual need not merely her want. The reader will find this book to be extremely well-written. The writing draws you into each of the main characters' POV. One POV picks up from the other, continuing the story as the POV changes. Even though the reader has the omniscient viewpoint, there are twists and turns in the storyline that surprise the reader. These surprises make the story all the more interesting...even more plausible. I personally love the writing of Roxie Noir. I look forward to her books as they are released. She only gets better and better. She has an unique style when writing mind-blowing erotica in her romances...super, salivatingly hot, hawt, hot!!! I wondered a little about the title, "Loaded". There are a number of denotations and connotations that can be referenced to the word, "loaded" in this story. My favorite is from the beginning, Alex was a "loaded" question in Tessa's mind...even more so, in the mind of the reader. One-click to find out how the loaded question is answered. You will be delighted!!!
When Tessa’s accountant father turned his back on the Mexican cartel, his daughter became a target. They were meant to hold her long enough to convince her father to return to the fold. After all, no parent failed to give in when their child’s life was held in the balance. A few days in the desert safe house and she was due to be returned to her father.
Despite his weakness when it came to women, Alex was volunteered because they wanted to snatch Tessa from a high end wedding and most of the cartel members had no chance of blending in. Not only was Alex’s father white, he grew up in an affluent neighborhood, before his father disappeared from the picture. Alex was meant to spike her drink, walk her out to the waiting car, then go back and find a bridesmaid to fuck for the night. At least, that was the plan.
What wasn’t part of the plan: the electric chemistry they shared, culminating in Alex fingering Tessa in the garden. Alex forwent the roofie, the alcohol and sex haze keeping Tessa compliant until he shoved her onto the back of an SUV.
Also, not part of the plan, the driver too drunk to make it to the safe house, leaving Alex to take her personally. Close quarters doing nothing to smother their mutual attraction.
And, the last straw, finding out they snatched Tessa too late. The feds already had her father. Tessa’s life was forfeit. Alex’s boss generously sending someone else to do the deed. Only, Alex couldn’t let that happen. When it came to the moment of truth, Alex threw away his career, potentially his life, for the woman who had completely and utterly charmed him.
***
Despite the abduction, all sex rang as fully consensual. Tessa felt safe with Alex, despite the situation and the violence he showed anyone threatening or disrespecting the woman he had rapidly grown possessive of.
Alex and Tessa are hot hot hot 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Tessa is your average everyday woman - boring job, boring ex, hopeless boring lovelife. She has just been sort of coasting through her life and really that has been okay with her but a little excitement wouldn't hurt... right? Oh boy was she wrong ! The handsome and saucy stranger she meet at her friends wedding was just going to be some "guess what I got drunk and did at Karen's wedding" story but it was going to be more like a story on Dateline. Apparently her seemingly boring father is the accountant for a notorious criminal organization and now he wants to turn states evidence and to keep him quiet they have decided to kidnap her as leverage. Oh and the sexy man flirting and hooking up with her turns out he's her would be kidnapper. Just perfect. Now she is stuck with a man whom used her until her father capitulates or who knows what will happen. Alex thought he was done with jobs like this when he was promoted up from muscle, but here he is with a woman he can't get out of his head that unfortunately now can't stand him. The longer he spends with the beautiful, smart, strong, and crazy mouthy Tessa the harder it is becoming to do his job. He knows what he has to do but it conflicts so much with what he wants and needs to do. The chemistry between them is nuclear and he cannot ignore it for much longer and neither can she no matter the fact that he kidnapped her. Alex will have to betray the people he works for, give up his life, and go on the run but keeping Tessa safe is worth the risk. Now he will just have to convince the girl that the a thug like him has more to offer than a wild ride.

It started so good but then it went downhill. It was going to be 4 stars or even 5 stars at the beginning but then it got worse after the stupid separation 😑 I didn't like the heroine, infact I hated her at a certain point. She acted like a bitch the whole time and honestly I didn't feel any emotional connection between them. Sure, they had a good chemistry and smexy scene were pretty good (although kinda repetitive) but they had ZERO emotional connection.
She couldn't date hero because he kidnapped her. That was her reason for being a bitch to him. She had no problem fucking him but If he wants to get serious, she can't because he kidnapped her, kill two guys (who were actually scum in the first place, were going to probably r@pe her and then kill her) and broke another gang guy jaw( because he called her cunt) but she can't date him. Yeah very good reason👍🏾😁
Man, heroine ruined this book for me. Otherwise it was going to be so good. Imo, hero become a doormat after separation? I liked him way more before separation. Also he wasn't jealous possessive enough for me either 😕
SAFETY DETAILS: Cheating:no Sharing:no OM drama: after separation she went on a few dates but she couldn't feel the spark so nothing happened OW drama: in the first chapter he was going to hookup with two girls but he got interrupted by his boss. Sex scene with OM or OW:no Virgin/manwhore:neither is a virgin and he is a manwhore 😑 Separation: yes, 18 months Celibate during separation: yes Condoms:no HEA: yes they get married in the epilogue two years later SAFE?:for me, yes.

Loaded Sometimes I would like to smack myself in the forehead! How I forgot about this delectable book is beyond me... I sat there wondering why it seemed familiar, well that's because... this is a revamp of the first book I ever read by Roxie Noir! Duh!
This hotter than Hades mobbed up, sexified, funny, dramatic scenes bursting with in your face emotions, fast paced read was a favorite of mine the first time around. She did not change a tremendous amount through most of it, but did give two excellent characters ( Alex and Tessa ) one helluva send off in the last few chapters!
Alex has been tasked the job of kidnapping Tessa; her father was the accountant for his boss Manny-knowing her father is planning on talking the feds about the underhandedness that goes down within his organization. Tessa father has gone into hiding. To bring him out they want to use Tessa as leverage.. Alex is supposed to get close enough to her at a wedding she is attending spike her drink, pack her in a van let the associates take her to a safe house. Things do not quite go according to plan. Tessa is a fireball, who has no problem keeping Alex on his toes when things go south, Alex will go south with it. These two are about to go on a crazy HOT adventure. Will they both make it out unscathed? GAH! If you have read this book before, I encourage you to read it again, and obviously if you have not read it before.. ahh.. I would. This IMO 5 STAR book is still on my favorites list! I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book
Alejandro (Alex) a semi-civilized bad guy is charged with attending the ‘wedding of the season’ to kidnap the daughter of the cartel La Carretera’s accountant as pressure to correct his sudden attack of conscience. Alex is unwilling to drug her or send her off with a driver who is drunk; so after charming her into the “hostage-mobile” must spend time with his angry captive till he gets news of a resolution from his boss.
Tessa is feeling a bit out of place at her old college roommates wedding when a gorgeous flirty man at her table makes the evening much more interesting. When kidnapped, she first thinks it is a prank of her friends, but driven to a remote cabin in the middle of the desert she quickly realizes this is for real. The feistier Tessa gets the more Alex admires her – and she chides herself as her attraction for Alex, her kidnapper, does not fade – can you say Stockholm syndrome?
Despite their serious situation, the repartee between these two has you laughing out loud, while the simmering heat continues to a boil. When the situation gets even more dangerous, suddenly they are running from the cartel, motorcycle gangs and the authorities. A rough, gritty, sexy story of two people who should have never connected but end up doing just that. The humor and heartbreak in this story make it a must-read!! I loved the first version of this story, but the updates and additions for this updated version make it all the better!!
Tessa Fulbright is invited to her friend’s wedding at the Beverly Hills Resort where the only person she knows is Karen, the bride. After the actual wedding is over and she’s at the reception, she has a couple of glasses of champagne and is looking for a third when she starts to fall because someone stepped on her dress and is caught by Alex.
Alejandro (Alex) Villalobos works for the La Carretera drug cartel. When their accountant, Ned Fulbright, threatens to go to the Feds, Alex is suppose to help kidnap Tessa Fulbright, the accountant’s daughter. His job is to go to the wedding, put rohypnol in her drink and then put her in their SUV for someone else to take her to one of their safe houses until they can find her father and convince him not to talk. At least, that’s what was supposed to happen…..
Tessa is an ordinary girl with a bit of wit. The conversations between Tessa and Alex are on the side of being rude to each other, but it gets them both hot for each other. I guess whatever works…. This is a story with lots of sex, some humor, some tension, murder, oh and did I mention lots of sex?! It is an interesting take on the drug cartel and what might happen if you double cross them. This is not your typical take on things like you would see in the movies where you and or your family are just taken out if you threaten to go to the Feds.
If you are offended by the use of the “F” word, you probably do NOT want to read this. If that doesn’t offend you, then you should enjoy it. There is a HEA with no cliffhanger.

I have to admit that the enemies-to-lovers trope is really not one of my favorites. I find it borderline impossible to root for a couple that spends any amount of time cheerfully thinking the worst about each other. I figured I would also hate this one for the same reasons. But this is Roxie Noir, so I should have known better. The woman is magic. My only criticism is that her female characters tend to have similar feel about them, so if you read a few of her books back-to-back, it might be a bit easy to mix them up. They all have different careers and lives, but a similar, mannerism I suppose, about them. But then they lay some kind of feminist smackdown on the patriarchy, and it's so awesome that I wouldn't care if they actually were the same character. The basic plot goes as follows: man and woman meet at a wedding, things get lusty, man kidnaps woman, woman is unhappy about this, man is impressed by woman's cojones, bonding, sexy times, dramatic escape/rescue, eventual reunion, then HEA. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a quick, sexy escape and doesn't want to have to think too hard. It's a great form of escapism after a crap day at work.
