Boarlander Bears #5

Boarlander Cursed Bear

Rate this book
**Don’t miss this riveting final installment to T. S. Joyce’s bestselling Boarlander Bears series.**

Clinton Fuller has been burned by love, but that doesn’t stop him from thinking of his first mate and what could’ve been. And when she blows into town, with no memory of him or what happened to her, he does his best to stop history from repeating itself. He’s harboring a curse—his bear—and he isn’t right for anyone anymore, especially not some fragile human with a bright future and a legitimate shot at happiness. He can’t drag her through the mud with him again, but Alyssa isn’t taking no for an answer. And now, his dominant, broken animal is putting her in more danger than she’s ever been. He can’t get her out of his head, and now he’ll have to convince her to run if she wants to survive what broke them apart all those years ago.

Alyssa Dunleavy is having dreams of a boy who saved her once, but when she lays eyes on Clinton, nothing makes sense anymore. Half of her life has been erased from her memories, and now the stories surrounding her accident are clashing with what she sees. But as she gets to know the standoffish Crazy Clinton of the Boarlanders, it becomes obvious he isn’t the sweet boy from her dreams at all, but a half-crazed monster grizzly shifter who is working through some major life changes. Even though he makes it clear she should stay far away from him for safety’s sake, she can’t help but be drawn to his animal magnetism. And now she’s falling head-over-heels for a stranger keeping a mountain of secrets…or maybe he’s no stranger at all.

Content Warning: Explicit love scenes, naughty language, and piles of sexy shifter secrets. Intended for mature audiences.

This is gonna get me a lot of hate but I really did not like this one. Clinton really grew on me over the last few books and this book turns him into a sleazy asshole. I hated that he called that other girl his mate, that's bs. She raped him repeatedly and he claims that he bonded with her? Really? I don't see a bear shifter allowing that shit at all. He finally escapes the facility, does he look for his one true love, the heroine? Hell no.... He starts becoming an angry asshole and starts having hate sex with whichever woman strikes his fancy. His excuse for this behavior is that since that woman raped him he could only have sex if it was rough and he hated the woman....seriously, that's his excuse. Unacceptable behavior for a romantic Hero in my book. I was disgusted but made myself finish the book hoping I would feel better by the end....I did not. I now hate Clinton for being a weak, spineless, dirty manho and he did not deserve the heroine. As for her, she was ok until the end when she just forgives him for everything.

Boarlander Cursed Bear is Clinton’s long-awaited story. About 25% in, I wasn’t sure if I was going to love this book (or even finish), but I’m so glad that I did. Clinton’s story is about self-sacrifice and overcoming signifiant trauma. It’s a wonderful, feel-g00d culmination for the series with the happily-ever-after that romance readers count on.

On a more personal note, we all have high and low points in our lives. This past week was not a high point. When besieged with worry (that accomplishes nothing), reading PNR is a great distraction—the more fantastical the better. There is the love and romance, usually the adrenaline rush of adventure, and the happy ending that is a balm to the soul.

Thank you, T.S. Joyce for the great escape, the light and frivolous entertainment, the themes about fighting injustice and overcoming adversity, and for the LOVE!

2.5 stars. This is a hard one to review.
Clinton has been a real crazy and at times nasty character for a long time. I have grown quite fond of his attitude and behaviour over the course of the related series though.
I was hoping for redemption when we find out what happened to him. And though I loved how brave he was in sacrificing himself to save Shae/Alyssa, I hated how he allowed the traumatic experiences he suffered to control him. He was a victim as much as Alyssa, so would he blame her like he blamed himself. He should have gotten help or talked things out with one of his crew mates.
I also don’t understand how his bear bonded in any way, shape or form with Amber, his EISS rapist. Stockholm Syndrome is the only thing I can come up with.
I am ambivalent towards Alyssa. Though she is not to blame for her lost past, I just couldn’t see her as being Clinton’s saviour/mate.
Though this all ends happily with the vote going the way it should and everyone all together, it felt hollow to me.

I have been waiting for Boarlander Cursed Bear by T.S Joyce since I started this series. I couldn't wait to see who tamed the problem child (or bear for that matter)

Clinton is the last single bear on Damon's mountains. He is the biggest jerk throughout every book in this series, but at least we get to see why. And boy did I have a change of heart for him and glad he got his mate. Alyssa is 28 years old and has no memory of her life before she turned 18. But after having dreams of a boy who looks like Clinton, she heads to the mountains for answers. Only he is perfectly happy keeping her in the dark by pretending he has no clue what she is talking about.

Will she forgive him for lying to her or is he as cursed as he thinks he is??

I feel like this book is the one we have been waiting for for a long time. I found it really hard to like Clinton because he's been such an ass for a long time. Even after knowing his past and why he behaved as he did, it didn't change my feelings. I'm on the fence with Alyssa/Shae. She got a raw deal, but more so because of what she was forced to give up. The one thing that I did really like was at the end when Alyssa found a place to belong and everyone in the Boarlander crew was there, shifters shifted humans supporting them all.

Well, old Barf McNuggets gets his girl.

You had your doubts, didn't you. You probably should have.

I didn't think I'd end up liking Clinton, but I did. His crusty, unapproachable exterior was his defense mechanism. He'd sacrificed much in his life.

Clinton has always cracked me up. It was nice to see a different side of him, a more vulnerable side. I loved Alyssa/Shae and him together. Loved the ending with the vote and all the shifters!

"They say that abandonment is a wound that never heals. I say only that an abandoned child never forgets" -- Mario Balotelli

Clinton Fuller isn’t right in the head, not in any way, shape or form. Pushed from one lumberjack crew to the next on Damon’s Mountain, he has been a pain-in-the-ass for each of the crews. And the Boarlander Crew is his last stop before he spirals too far and the Crew Alpha, Harrison Lang, has to put him down for the safety of all the shifters on Damon’s Mountain. This is his story, and for all I have bitched and moaned about his presence throughout all the Damon’s Mountain stories, I have also gotten bits and pieces of his story all along, and have begun to feel a mite sorry for him, though I never really came to know him. But now, we all get to learn what made Clinton the way he is.

And you know what? I not only understand Clinton now, but my heart is totally (well, maybe not "totally" totally, but still) softened to his story. All of his acting-out makes sense, and I am so glad I got to know him. Of course, Clinton’s story isn’t the only story told in Boarlander Cursed Bear. The political story of ‘Humans vs. Shifters’ comes to a head as the Damon’s Mountain Crew (and all the shifters in the US, though the story doesn’t reach that far) wait for the vote that will decide whether the shifter population retains their right to live, love, and mate as they choose.

This is a terrific end to a wonderful series of books, and I recommend them highly to lovers of Urban Fantasy Romance who want a bit more than just “wham-bam-we-mate-for-life” in their books. These are deeper than that. The reading order, from T. S. Joyce’s website is below.

As always, my disclaimer: I have received books from T.S. Joyce in the past in exchange for a realistic review. I am not sure if I received this one for free, so I will just say that I have received books in the past in exchange for a realistic review and this one may or may not be one of those, but how I received the books has no impact on any of my reviews. If you haven’t read Joyce’s Damon’s Mountain Series, I highly recommend you read them in order. They are so much fun, yet running parallel to the same hatreds and prejudice we see in the world today that they are more than the sum of their parts. Enjoy!

BOARLANDER CURSED BEAR-CAPTIVATING AND SIZZLING ROMANCE

This story features; ALYSSA ({SHAE} a sexy, sassy, raven-haired beauty and waitress; CLINTON, is traffic-stopping gorgeous, has bewitching eyes, and is a beast of a grizzly bear shifter;

What you’ll find in this story; a cast of remarkably impressive and engaging characters, fantastic story-line, picturesque and dynamic vivid scene descriptions, phenomenal banter, camaraderie, family love, drama, danger, abduction, secrets revealed, gripping suspense, spiraling emotions, pent-up rage, gut-wrenching moments, jaw-dropping heart-pounding sensual romance, and a melt-your-heart conclusion that leaves you wanting more.

Alyssa has no memories of her childhood or early teen years; she keeps having the same dream of a blonde boy named Clinton who saved her. Her friends give her vacation money to go to Saratoga to meet Clinton to see if he is the person of her dreams. Clinton has been drinking a bit too much lately and is having a hard time seeing all his friends mated; he thinks of what he has lost and what made him the monster he is. Alyssa finds the courage to leave the safety of her home by going to Saratoga in the hopes that Clinton holds the answers to her missing memories.

WOW/INCREDIBLE fast paced well written roller coaster of a story by a truly gifted author. The author again has given readers an intriguing plot, characters that are certainly praise-worthy, fabulous dialogue, and breathtaking scene descriptions to keep you hooked from start to finish. You may shed a few tears, laugh too, but you will most definitely find this a most enjoyable and memorable read. There is no doubt that the chemistry between Alyssa and Clinton is genuine; their romance is filled with fiery passion and unwavering devotion. Forgiveness and trust play a big part in this story. I so adored all the characters in this story and am glad Clinton got his HEA. If you treasure shifter romance this is definitely a fantastic book for your library. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I highly recommend this book.

Speechless with joy!

A book that's been anticipated for so long, and did not disappoint in any way!

I just finished reading Boarlander Cursed Bear, by T. S. Joyce. I'm crying as I write this review. The book was THAT good that tears flowed as I read the last bit. So, so many happy moments on Damon's Mountains over the course of many series of books. It hurts that this is the end, but the joy is overwhelming!

It seemed as if Clinton would never be happy, never settle his bear, never be anything but crazy. He's been bouncing from crew to crew, always angry, often destructive. Now, in this book dedicated to him, we learn so much about his background that my heart melted. I saw a different side of Clinton that I never imagined. And while I've always enjoyed his antics, I came to truly love Clinton in this book.

For Clinton to find his mate seemed an impossible wish. But he had. Many years ago. We just didn't know it. Then she walked into his life (again), and the Clinton we knew - and loved to hate - became someone no one recognized. A man who cared. A man who needed to protect his mate. And I started to cry.

Truly a heart touching story. But still set to the background of the Boarlander Trailer Park, complete with 10-10, a mouse who eats jalapeno chips, big trucks, and all the things we've come to know and love. This story has it ALL !!!

Thank you, T. S. Joyce for this wonderful story! And all the stories you've written. Can't wait for the next series to debut!

So maybe I'm not as speechless as I thought. But words really don't begin to cover the depth of emotions I experienced from this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

This was the perfect ending to this beloved series' of Damon's Mountains. I dont honestly think she could have done it better! I was so happy and pleased! I wasnt sure how Clinton's story would go. He's been the growly, surly, uncooperative, and might as well add saboteur, character since Graybacks. He just got progressively worse. He did begin to soften up about halfway through the Boarlander series and I think she did that to pave the way for his book. He's a complex character and has been through some horrible things. I mean the others have been through some horrible things too but I honestly dont know who's pain is worse. I dont think we can gauge that. Shae/Alysaa is part of his painful past. She was his mate and he found her at age 10! Til she was taken away from him when she was 16ish for 2 years and tortured and God knows what else. She's got no memory, it was erased so she honestly doesnt remember anything past the day she "woke" up at 19. When she comes to Saratoga looking for answers he's quite the ass to her. Pushes her away but he can't stay away. She's his mate so we get to see his softer side. He's not as crazy as he lets on. The things he does...its more of practical jokes and a way for him to cope with things. He's really very sweet and romantic with Alyssa. I really loved their book and the vote on getting their shifter rights back hangs in the balance. Will Alyssa get her memory back? Will she find out everyone including Clinton lied to her? I'm not gonna divulge everything you'll just have to read it.

oh! wow I loved Clinton's book so much, his and Alyssa's story wrecked me. He stole a part of my heart and I just wanted to give him a hug. He was so broken and had a good reason for lashing out the way he had in past books. The love between him and Alyssa was beautiful and I'm so glad they got a second chance at being happy. This book leaves you overflowing with love and happiness for all the shifter crews. It was perfect!!

"She'd hugged him. She'd split him wide open, and now he couldn't fight anymore. He couldn't leave her alone. Selfish Monster."

"Clinton was secret-sweet, and she made a mental note to go easier on him. This was a proud man who struggled with communication, but at least he was trying with her."

"Clinton didn't feel like a stranger. He was that comfortable feeling of coming home after long day of work."

"What a mess Clinton was. What a mysterious, complicated, beautiful mess."

"I forgive you because you never gave up on me, even when you'd given up on yourself."

I just did not like this book. I loved the idea but the writing just didn’t live up to my expectations. I knew Joyce could tell this story because she did it with Easton but this book feels like a missed opportunity.

Why would Alyssa have dreams to lead her to Clinton if she never regains her memory? It’s like the dreams are there in the beginning to get them back together and then they just don’t matter anymore. Clinton buying the house doesn’t matter. The yellow flowers, the diary, parents, nothing matters, nothing helps. Absolutely nothing triggers her memories but she has 2 random dreams… I think maybe the memory loss being caused by “medicine” is what’s so disappointing. This medicine never wears off. It has zero side effects. It literally just erases what they want it to and that’s it. There is no cure for this medicine. Seems like lazy writing. If the government could erase memories that should have played a much bigger part in the series..

Clinton nearly broke my heart. His devotion and self sacrifice knows no bounds. I saw a completely different man with loyalty and love in spades. Alyssa's part in it all was so sad to read and yet she was so unaware of it through much of the book. These two are poster shifters for the term "mate".

Love this

I love this series and it absolutely one of my favorite series! I wish the Boarlanders had their audio books just like the other crews. If you are just finding this series, go back to the beginning, you won’t be disappointed and they only get better and better.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

I think it’s safe to say that anyone who has read the connecting series that make up the Damon’s Mountains series has run into Clinton before. One angry, destructive young man with attitude, sass, arrogance and the need to hurt not only others but himself as well. The Boarlander crew is Clinton’s last chance before his alpha will be forced to put him down. He’s now that out of control that it’s only a matter of when no longer if Harrison must make that awful decision. Then the one woman who could save him appears… with no memory of their shared past.

Boarlander Cursed Bear delivered a heart touching story to make us care about one tortured man, a man who could be the absolute most nasty piece of crap attitude on the planet. Yet he had a reason, and now we know why Clinton is as he has become. I always knew there had to be more to Clinton than what we saw on the surface. But I wasn’t really prepared for why he became so out of control. No spoilers, simply a very amazing bear finally being reunited with the love of his life, his mate. I couldn’t have imagined a better ending for Clinton than his Alyssa.

(And since I’m so very late on this final review I needed to catch up on from my binge reading of the entire series back to back – I’ve met his son, and know that Clinton is still the fun loving, prank pulling man I came to love in this story. And the apple does’t fall far from the tree… so keep on reading the connecting stories, they are all amazing.)

It’s always bittersweet when a series concludes. And I’ve loved every single story in these connecting stories, met some pretty amazing characters. But it’s not really over, there is so much more to experience and discover… and I’m loving the journey. I’d highly recommend Boarlander Cursed Bear and all the stories in these connecting stories set in Damon’s Mountains.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Wow! I have to admit I was quite apprehensive going into this. With a 10 book build up (or thereabouts) it had quite a lot to live up to.
I remember by the end of Harrison and Audrey's story I was so fed up with Clinton that I wasn't sure whether I wanted to read his story at all. Then he started to grew on me throughout this series, only to... I dunno.
I have to admit I'm somewhat disappointed. I know that these all fast paced, OTT, but with this one I really wish she'd taken a little more time with them. Even more so considering their history. Wasn't quite sold on either of them in this one. It's like in the 10 years that passed neither of them grew as a person at all. Just like with Mason, completely stuck in the past.

Also, I just didn't feel the love connection between Clinton and Shae/Alyssa. Which might just be a first for me with this author. One other review described it as feeling hollow and sadly I'd have to agree.

Probably didn't help matters that this is my least favorite trope.
Still overall the ending was nice, I loved seeing some of our old friends again.

I'm not sure yet as to if and when I'll continue with the next generation... talk about apprehension again... but will be sure to check out some of her other series, away from these mountains... :)

Boarlander Cursed Bear is the fifth and final book in the Boarlander Bears series. Clinton has moved around on Damon’s mountain trying to find something or somewhere to settle he and his bear. He’s grumpy and rude but you could always tell it was because of a terrible experience from his past.

Alyssa is missing the memories from several years of her life due to an accident. Or so she was told. She’s been having recurring dreams about a beautiful boy who saved her life and she’s confused as to whether it’s a memory or only just a dream. Alyssa takes a trip in search of answers from a stranger and discovers much more.

I’ve always liked Clinton and knew his story would be good. Poor bear. I can’t imagine what he went through and hate that he was treated the way he was. He was so broken and Alyssa returning to his life gave him hope for the first time. I could feel his desperation coming from the pages as I read. We’re not told much about Alyssa’s missing two years and I think that was probably best considering what happened to Clinton. The journal was a good addition and so were the dandelions. I loved that having Alyssa back in Clinton’s life allowed us to see the man he was always meant to be.

This is the fifth book in this series and they should be read in order. This is Clinton’s book. He is sad, angry, and damaged. He fell in love young with a human girl, Alyssa. She returned his love. However, theirs isn’t any easy love. Now she is back but she doesn’t remember him. To her he is just a man who looks like a boy from her dreams. She is drawn to him and doesn’t understand why. However, Clinton and the boy from her dreams aren’t anything alike. Clinton knows he can’t have Alyssa but she doesn’t stay away and his bear doesn’t want to lose her again. Things get crazy fast and Clinton himself may do the worst thing imaginable for a shifter and hurt his mate. Will Alyssa and Clinton be able find a way to make it work? I truly loved this book. Clinton’s character has been around for a while and was glad to finally get to read his story. To find out why he is the way he is. This book is a must read. I can’t wait to read the next series in this overall bigger series. I love T.S. Joyce so much and I am glad my friend turned me onto this series.

I’m quickly making my way through all the books in this series and can’t wait to start Harper’s series next. Every single book has been fantastic and hands-down 5*, making T.S.Joyce my new favorite author. Clinton’s book was absolutely perfect and although, like every other book by this author, I’ve shed a lot of tears watching the main characters fall more in love with each other while healing their own inner demons and rebuilding their souls together… Clinton definitely turned out to be even sweeter and bigger hearted than I imagined. His story was rough to read and very emotional but worth seeing his journey back to life with his first and only true love: Shea/Alyssa. Even his annoying pranks seemed sweet by the end and we know they come from a place a loyalty and love for his crews. This was a perfect way to wrap up this generation of shifter stories especially since Clinton has been woven into each story since he was with the Graybacks. It was to finally seem him heal and be back with his OTL. Such a great series! Love love love TSJoyce books!

Another awesome story in this series and sadly the last one of the Boarlander Bears Series.
I was once again pulled into the story right from the start and stayed there until the end of the book, all the while watching the little mini movie that was playing in my head.
I felt each and every emotion that the characters went through and I went through them at the same time, this was one book I didn't want to finish, but sadly all good books come to and end.
There are surprises all the way through the story, some are large, while others are small, some you will see coming others you won't, but they all play a part in making the story awesome.
I am so pleased I found this author, which happened as another author I follow was actually reading the books at the time.
I highly recommend this author and this series, if you are a shifter fan, like me then you will not be sorry that you bought these books, they are on KU and I konw that some are also on audible, which is a bonus for me.

Crazy Clinton's story is finally here! Highly Recommend!

Contains subject matter that may be offensive or a trigger for some including adult language, steamy intimate scenes and violence.

While this could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend that it be read in order for maximum enjoyment and to prevent spoilers.

This is of the easiest of story to read, because let's face it, Clinton is messed up. Always trying to prevent other shifters from mating, never wanting to show anyone he cares, etc. So there just had to be a horrible reason in his past behind it.

I have a very active imagination, and you would never want to attend a movie with me as I can nail the plot within 15 minutes or less. However I didn't have a clue to his story.

Highly recommend this story and series for anyone who enjoys shifter PNRs developed for each couple, but with an overall arc intertwined throughout the various series.

I've been waiting for Clinton's book forever, and I'm so glad this didn't disappoint!

Alyssa is a waitress in North Carolina who had a bout of amnesia and doesn't remember anything from before the age of 18. However, she dreams of a boy named Clinton, and after seeing a picture of grizzly shifter Clinton in the paper, she believes there's a connection there. She travels to Sarasota to meet him, and we finally finally finally find out why Clinton has always been anti-love and anti-mate.

I might be bumping the rating just a smidge because I'm so happy the series ended on a high note, but this was definitely one of my favorites of the series. It's not as steamy as some of the others in the series, but the story is great and just keeps you moving straight to the end. Clinton and Alyssa were good together, and I was so happy that Clinton's personality didn't change from the earlier books. He was the same goofy a-hole that he's always been.

Best of the best!

After reading about the shifter in Damon’s mountains, Crazy Clinton seemed like a seriously lost cause. In some stories, he seemed to spiral, in some he seemed to stabilize to a ‘normal’ level of crazy. In some, it seemed like his story wouldn’t end well. Boarlander Cursed Bear picked apart this crazy bear man, showing the reader the why behind his shenanigans. While getting glimpses of his heart, his character stayed true to him- no softening up or magically changing into a new non-crazy Clinton. The story is expertly written to have a fantastic long-lost, intricately heartbreaking, complicated love story. The vote for shifter rights is finally revealed, loose ends tied up, crews come together, and the warm fuzzies at the end are enough to drag tears of joy out of every eyeball. Honestly, one of the best series endings I’ve read in forever!

This was a nice book. I liked Clinton, I was sort of sad they saved his story til last because he was the most interesting out of all the Boarlanders.

Clinton was a good character. He was the way he was because he was hurting. He was hurting because he had to do something he didn't want to do and then when he was healing if he was normal his crew would act like he wasn't normal and treat him worse so he acted worse.

Nice ending of this book very sweet. Interested to see if my re-read of Bloodrunner Dragon goes better now I'm fully up to date with this series.
