I was born in 1963. Started reading fantasy and science fiction with the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs when I was 7. As I grew I added more and more authors to my list, Isaac Asimov, E.E. Doc Smith, Tolkien, etc. Every book with a cover by Frank Frazetta was soon in my collection.

In high school I made friends who introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons, a brand new game at the time. Now I could both READ and PLAY out the adventures I loved so much.

A lot of my desire to write comes from playing dungeons and dragons and inventing worlds to play in since about 1978. My friends and I would sit around to ponder and question the mysteries of magic, dragons, and other planes of existence in fantasy worlds.

We came up with our own answers and those are at the core of my fantasy writing.

I didn’t know what to expect for this ending but I’m more than pleased.

If there’s one thing you can count on Thomas Cardin for its pacing. I noticed that in everything I’ve read of his that I don’t feel rushed and I don’t feel that I want to skip anything because everything that he dwells on is necessary for the plot and/or character development. That specific talent worked out well here despite each Terminals book being no more than 100 pages or so.

Other than pacing, I found that Cardin likes to back up everything that comes out of Abby’s mouth with fact. Personally, I believe this is the true definition of “science fiction” where the author, in addition to creating a story, masses any alien/future technology with a sturdy explanation that most likely will be achieved in the near future. However, other than paying attention to the information that I was interested in, I mostly skimmed over a lot of the facts of Abby’s inventions. But if, for any reason Cardin is questioned, he’s got a source of strong theorizing to back up his stuff.

Okay. Stuff happens to the characters in this one. Moving on. I came to really love Kovaks. What a guy! He went from being just another member of the team to a vital part of the final mission--well, at one point anyway. As a Transformers fan I kind of saw him as the Ironhide team member: He’s experienced and patient but has a tenderness to him that shows he cares about the people he works with. There's a scene toward the begin get of this one that has to be one of the coolest moments I've read in a Cardin book yet where Kovaks shows what he's really made of...GAH! I loved it so freaking much!! That scene played out like a freaking movie--I cannot lie. Film that thing with a Bourne Identity filter on the lens and you got yourself a wicked ass moment that needs to be on the big screen.

*deep breath* Abby and Cronus. A mortal vs a “god.” I was so into that rivalry. If this were a comic book series, Cronus would be visiting Abby in her nightmares and they'd have one on one conversations giving each other false information...well, in my version. It'd just be cool to see them interacting more but for this book series I think the amount of exposure and interaction was just as appropriate as the pacing. I also loved how we got to see into a little bit of Cronus’ emotions that paralleled the backstory of how and why he was locked up. Feeling the emotions of thine enemy is always a plus for me (so if you got more interesting villains--just sayin’).

Although the climax wasn’t a loud bang like we see in blockbuster movies, Terminals got a fitting and somewhat satisfying end. One thing that caught me off guard in the author’s note is Cardin saying that this series is jointed with another of his series...I...don’t know how I feel about that. I mean, it’s cool to think about because we are dealing with parallel and alternate dimensions here, but...I don’t know. I’ll just have to see what it’s like when I get there (although Jill interacting with Lorace from the Gifts of Vorallon--ooh, he could be her dragon rider).

Great job once again, Thomas. Keep up with the great stories.

This was a perfect end to a fantastic series. Well written with great characters and top-notch world building. Part superhero story, and part mythology, I really enjoyed the combination and it led to a thrilling ending. I can't wait to see what happens to these characters next!
