Many people have found The People’s Bible to be the most reliable Bible commentary series published. It’s the laypeople’s Bible—down to earth, clearly written, easy to read and understand, filled with practical and contemporary applications. Each volume includes that book’s complete text from the NIV Bible. The Christ-centered commentaries following the Scripture sections contain explanations of the text, historical background, maps, illustrations, and archaeological information. The People’s Bible commentaries are great for personal or group study.
Leviticus is the third book of God's great leader Moses. The book is filled with types and shadows of Christ and his work of redemption. Reading about Old Testament sacrifices helps us understand Christ's sacrifice for the sins of the world, and reading about Old Testament worship helps us understand our own worship better.
This is a simple commentary with the text of Leviticus included. I confess that Leviticus has long been the book I listed as my least favorite book of the Bible, having been the shipwreck of Bible reading ambitions several times. Currently I am in a Bible reading and journaling program. Journaling about my Bible reading has prevented me from reading with a frown and moving on, and this commentary supplied the understanding I needed to appreciate the contents of Leviticus. Simple, brief explanation prevented me from becoming disoriented. Because the commentary is not comprehensive, I was able to have my own "aha!" moments, instead of being content with admiration of the author's superior insights!
