Brooklyn Rockstar

Rate this book
Sexy bad boy Charlie Walker had everything he could ever want as a rockstar: a platinum album, a cushioned bank account, and an endless supply of groupies desperate to have him. But things changed when the band's drummer went missing, forcing Charlie to go it alone and question if he truly has what it takes to succeed in the business.

Small-town girl Evelyn Kendall has just arrived in Brooklyn Heights. With a new job and her best friend as a roommate, she's ready for an epic adventure free from her family’s constant supervision. She's not prepared for the muscle-bound, tattooed star who appears out of nowhere and rocks her world.

When Charlie locks gazes with the freckled brunette at his first solo gig, he falls hard and fast for reasons he can’t explain. Determined to keep Evelyn in his life, he’s ready to change his ways, even if they run blood deep. But will their instant attraction be enough to weather the storm brought on by the perils of fame, Charlie’s secrets, and Evelyn’s overly protective brothers?

Warning: This book is filled with sexy bad boys and strong leading ladies. If you’re looking for an engaging read with panty-melting love scenes, then you’ve come to the right place.

Small-town farm girl Evelyn Kendall has done the impossible: capture the heart of rock star bad boy Charlie Walker. Sparks fly instantly whenever they get close to each other. Charlie completely rocks her in every way! But Evelyn soon finds the fame and press can wear on you. She is so sweet and sexy that Charlie can’t deny the feelings beginning to stir within him for her. Soon though, even their deepest feelings can't shelter them from those that conspire against them.

The characters each had issues that deserved deeper exploration. It all ended up feeling a bit rushed. This could have been a really good story if the characters were more developed as well as the story. I am all about a rough rock star/bad boy but for some reason Charlie just rubbed me the wrong way.

On the plus side, I loved the setup between this unlikely couple. Evelyn and Charlie are likable, sexy and energetic in a passionate way. Charlie really, really loved Evelyn, and that's always the most important thing about a book’s hero. I think this author has so much more to give.

Dnf @ 51%. I just couldn't do it anymore. The H went from waking up from a drunken encounter with 2 naked groupies, to propositioning an older reporter, to falling in love at first sight and wanting a committed relationship with the h. I didn't find it any bit believable. I know some people enjoy instalove, and sometimes I can get through it -- but I didn't understand this one at all. There was also a few time jumps that took away some of those times that they were developing feelings because at 41% the h was even claiming to love him in her inner dialogue. The few interactions that they had before they started acting like they loved each other were either really brief and shallow conversation or making out -- definitely nothing that would make me believe the feelings of love (lust yes, but not love). I kept on reading on because I was hoping it would get better, but with the instalove and the h's constant giggling I was done.

22 year old Evelyn just moved to Brooklyn from Minnesota.
She always felt she was a big city girl at heart, and now she's finally away from the farm, her dad and her overprotective brothers.
She moved in with her friend Sharlo. (a half british heiress she met and clicked with online.)

First adventure of her new life: go see Charlie Walker in concert.
Who??? Evelyn thinks? He's only the hottest rockstar Brooklyn has ever produced, but Evelyn has kinda been living under a rock out there in the midwest.
But looking at his youtube video - phew!!! Hottie McRockstar is just her kind of guy.

description

Poor Charlie.
He could now be touring the world with his band, but somehow his drummer is missing and the band decided to take a break from being a band. And now Charlie needs to prove himself as a solo act.
Easier said than done.
Especially when the studio guys are saying that his songs suck and when his existent and non-existent sex life is constantly landing him in the news!
Time to tone things down a bit...

The first time their eyes meet at that little club concert, they're both immediately attracted to each other.
But his fame and the paparazzi and social media crazy fans and an idiot reporter and the missing band-mate are standing in the way of an immediate happily ever after....

WHAT WiLL HAPPEN TO CHARLIE & EVELYN????
WiLL THE TWO OF THEM BE ABLE TO FiGHT THROUGH ALL THESE OBSTACLES???
WiLL THERE BE A HEA???
WiLL EVERBODY SURViVE???

I'm not telling you that of course...

ROCKSTAR ROMANCE!!!?????
YESSSS!!! Total fangirl!!

description

And this Rockstar - phew!!!
CHARLIE WALKER is such an amazing guy... sexy, adorable, talented, sad.....

description

He's your typical rockstar with all the groupies and rumors about even more groupies and threesomes and alcohol...
But he's also this lonely, sad guy, who's missing his drummer - but the drummer is still kind of in his head, with bad advice. Like the little devil on his shoulder.

And beautiful, wholesome farm-girl Evelyn.
She's just the girl this city boy needs to settle down with.

I loved every second of their story.
We have very sexy & romantic moments....

description

And lots of frustrating and sad and interesting and funny and very suspensy moments.
This really was an amazing rockstar romance!!! I would've liked a tiny little bit more Rockstar though - a bit more singing on stage or something like that ...

Can't wait to read book #2 about Evelyn's brother....

3 little things I didn't like.... why did Evelyn want to go to NY? She doesn't have a plan for life...no college plans, no dream-job. Going to NY with only waitressing job is kinda stupid in my opinion. I would've loved her even more if there would've been some life-long dream of becoming...no idea - a painter, violinist, cupcake baker!

Drummer Danny's little lines in Charlie's head were stupid. I would've edited them out of the book, just like I would've edited out the stupid inner goddess in the Fifty Shades books!
We don't need to hear Danny's words to know that he probably was an idiot, that could've been explained in a few other sentences.

Also Evelyn's always talking about how long ago her last sexual encounter was - how many years ago she did this and that with a guy - bla bla -sooo many years ago. That girl is 22 years old!!!! But she's talking about sex as if she had 15 years of experience ... that was a bit too much for me☺

But that's it - the rest was really great!!!

BROOKLYN ROCKSTAR was an amazingly sexy & exciting Rockstar-Romance! About two lonley people looking for that something that's been missing in their lives .... and finding their HEA with each other. ☺

There was a lot of stuff that I liked about Brooklyn Rockstar (Kendalls #1) by Jennifer Ann and also some things that I felt not so good about.

First of all – it is really well written and even if there is not much information on the Background of some of the characters it really works out – which is already amazing on its own.

Often enough you encounter books that could be really good but due to a lack of character development they will never be rated appropriately.

But also on the other hand I felt that the focus of the book was somehow not where it should have been.

The actual plot twist became a side notice at a certain point and the way it was told there should have been repercussions for the characters but those were single handedly wiped away. I kind of felt strange at that moment. Like :”wait what?”

I kept expecting something totally different to be honest when it comes to that part of the plot. (I am referring to Charlies monologues), it felt like the author toyed with several ideas and directions for the plot before deciding where to go.

That might have been an interesting plot idea on its own – but the way that was chosen in the end was missing out and felt “flat” to me.

I can see a lot of storylines for the future of that series and some of them seem really interesting to me. Including the one I would have guessed (again referring to Charlies monologues) – well but who knows .. the author might really surprise here – because somehow I feel not done with that plotline.

An I really hope Ms. Ann will “resurrect” (pun intended) that plotline

4 Stars for the idea of where this might go …

Jennifer Ann gave me all I could want in a sexy, bad boy rocker with way too much of most things. Who would have thought he would have self-esteem issues. I got a great read and a hot story. Bring on the next book. I need a date of release. PLEASE!!!!

5 BROOKLYN ROCKSTAR STARS (★★★★★)

*** Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. However, this doesn’t affect my opinion of this book and the words in this review. ***

I get the feeling that deep down, there’s something dangerous about him. He’s the worst kind of bad boy all wrapped up in a smoking hot body.

Get ready to be swept of your feet by a brooding rockstar and a charming farmer’s daughter. Brooklyn Rockstar has every ingredient to make you laugh, cry and fawn yourself. You are introduced to the Kendall family and it leaves you wanting more. So much more. Are you ready to peel back some of the rockstar’s layers to get to the sweet guy?

I also never used to kiss them deeply while dreaming what it will be like when I finally get to make love to them. My life is changing, whether I’m ready for it or not, and this woman is going to become the center of it. Fuck me. I think I might be in love.

Charlie Walker is a panty-dropping hot rockstar who spends every night with another woman. Absolutely no lack in the female attention department. And he may seem like an arrogant jerk who doesn’t care about the outside world, but he is actually a man with a warped, damaged vision and a golden heart. Since Danny, the drummer of his band, went missing Charlie is forced to continue his way in the music world alone and that scares him. He is afraid that he isn’t good enough to make a name for himself. He is very insecure.

What I liked about Charlie is that even though he makes mistakes, he knows he does wrong and he gives it his all to be the best he can be. That need to be the best version of himself only intensifies after his first encounter with Evelyn. They lock gazes at his first solo performance. An important moment to determine his solo success. Sparks are flying, even without the exchange of words. Charlie apprehends he shouldn’t invite Evelyn into his bizarre world, but he can’t help chasing her and showering her with his panty-melting charm. Failing to prevent his generous side from showing. The cute bad boy who loves to pamper his mother and little sister, but who doesn’t care for material wealth for himself. Who prefers to take the subway over being driven by a personal driver. Slowly falling in love with Evelyn, Charlie also tries to protect her from his ugliness. There are a couple of devastating secrets he isn’t ready to share with her just jet.

Evelyn is a 22-year-old farmer’s daughter who just moved to live in New York City, escaping the protectiveness of her brothers. Before Sharlo, her housemate and friend, drags her to Charlie Walker’s private concert, she never even heard from him. She only listened to classical music while living and working on the farm. It is time for her to lead her on life, away from the almost suffocating shelter. Evelyn rapidly loses her heart to Charlie, but is she ready to fully give him her most prized possession? Can she trust him or will his secrets and his fame shatter everything that is good between them into tiny little pieces?

“Just remember under all that swoon-worthy ink and those bulky muscles there’s a sweet guy from Brooklyn who wants to be loved like everyone else. He’s not a bad guy.”

Right away, I had the feeling I was an actual part of the story. From the first couple of words I was drawn to it and I made a connection with the main characters. What a pleasant writing style. Everything was described very well, with a lot of details without making parts in the story drag. Locations and buildings were defined in a way that made it easy to picture them. It was the same with the characters. All the characters, including Charlie’s best friend Lorenzo, Charlie’s little sister, Evelyn’s friend Sharlo and Evelyn’s brother James. They really supported the story and even strengthened it further.

First I was hesitant because the summary hinted at an instant attraction between Charlie and Evelyn. Something that often ends badly, but in some way works very well in Brooklyn Rockstar. Usually it comes across unbelievable, but that wasn’t the case here. Jennifer wrote about it in such a realistic way that it seemed like I experienced Charlie and Evelyn’s feelings myself.

Luckily sex didn’t have the upper-hand in Brooklyn Rockstar and that was such a relief. In most books about musical geniuses like Charlie Walker sex floods the story. This book started with it and it was an important component of Charlie’s life and the issues that arised between Charlie and Evelyn, but the explicit sex scenes were kept at a minimal and that benefited the story. The scenes that were incorporated in the story, were described in such a loving, warm and affectionate way. Resulting in an incomparable, unparalleled and pleasurable reading experience.

“I’m hoping you’ll focus on how I plan to treat you like you’re the only woman in the world. Because as far as I can tell, you’re the only one worthy of my devotion.”

I absolutely loved the epilogue. It was cute and perfect. The ideal ending to Charlie and Evelyn’s story. Everything surrounding their relationship went at a fast pace, so it didn’t surprise me it also ended that way. The epilogue also hinted at the following book in the series, which is about Sharlo and James.

I’m very excited to read their story. I liked Jennifer’s choice to write one chapter from Sharlo’s POV. I think it was an exceptionally smart choice as it gave an extra dimension to this story, but it also set up Sharlo and James’ story. I NEED to read more of Jennifer’s books. Her writing is phenomenal and Brooklyn Rockstar was the perfect acquaintance with Jennifer Ann.

“You don’t have to worry about fitting into my life. I’ll figure out a way to make my life fit around you.”

Brooklyn Rockstar is a lighthearted romance with in-depth characters who give Evelyn and Charlie’s story a profound foundation. Adorable, charming and hot. These are the exact words to describe this story. Like I said, I can’t wait to read more about the Kendalls. If you are looking for a story about trust, love and forgiving yourself, Brooklyn Rockstar will satisfy all your needs and give you a little extra! Namely, an incredibly hot and intense new book boyfriend, Charlie Walker.

“I don’t know where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing a week — shit, even a day from now, but I know I’ll get through anything with you by my side.”

Charlie Walker had a reputation for being a man slut, a well earned reputation, but the rock star's world is jolted when his drummer disappears and his career is on the edge of being destroyed. Needing to keep on the down low, Charlie is trying to keep himself out of the public eye. Charlie did not expect to meet, Evelyn Kendall.

Evelyn just moved to Brooklyn Heights, ready to get out from under the thumb of her overbearing brothers. While she loves her family, she is ready to start on her own path. Meeting Charlie, Evelyn isn't sure if the pretty words Charlie is saying about the two of them are truthful. Can she trust a man whose reputation with women is disastrous?

Very fun read. I liked Charlie, he is struggling with his own secrets while trying to prove himself as a worthy partner for Evelyn. Evelyn is a real woman, she doesn't fall for Charlie's lines and is an instant book favorite. Look forward to reading more of the Kendall series.

3.75 rocker stars

You had me a "rockstar" Ms Ann! I am a sucker for a rock star book, so wave one in front of me and I am always going to read it.

Brooklyn Rockstar was more of a sweet rock star than a bad boy rocker. Of course there is the groupies and all that goes along with them, but it was more rumour and innuendo than sexy times for Charlie Walker.

Evelyn - hmmm, not sure where I find myself with Evelyn. I liked her - most the time - but sometimes she was just ugh. At times she felt like a 13 year old girl, not standing up to her overprotective brothers, whining and worrying about what they will think. She is 22 years old and moved states away from them. I wanted to shake some sense into her.

For a rock star, I wanted a bit more of Charlie on stage. I think in the whole book we only got him as a "rock star" a couple of times. Not that I didn't love getting to know Charlie for Charlie, but he could have been any kind of half-famous guy rather than a rock star (but this could just be me).

I loved Evelyn's room mate Sharlo. Gotta love a smart mouthed, ballsy woman who takes no crap from anyone, and is willing to stand up for her friends.

There is a story within the story about the disappearance of Charlie's bandmate Danny which was full of suspense, mystery and intrigue - though I wish his was not the voice that Charlie had in his head (though I guess why he does makes sense as the story continues). I think I would have liked it better if it was Charlie's inner voice or none at all (again, this might just be me).

We also have a bit of set up for the second book in the series, which I hope won't be too far down the track!

Overall Brooklyn Rockstar was a pretty good story from this new to me author, and I look forward to seeing where The Kendalls series takes us.

This is a really well written story which I enjoyed reading but... I don't even know what it was about it that didn't completely knock my socks off. It had all the usual suspects: hot, tattooed rocker boy; sweet, naive girl that sees the real boy not the allure of fame. All the stuff I love for an afternoon read. Possibly it was some of the dialogue:

Biting her lip, she nods thoughtfully. "I want you to be the one to break my dry spell."

Bestill my beating heart. So sexy. So romantic. I can tolerate the cheesiest, corniest line without rolling my eyes but that? No.

Still, despite the odd line of cringeworthy dialogue it was well written. So I will just leave it with it was good. I liked it.

1.2 Stars. I really wanted to like this book. The description sounded good and the characters were interesting. Unfortunately the characters were too horny boy/girl crazy for me to get into the story. Every time I started to settle into the story the characters went all slutty. I'm sorry I don't need to hear about dripping lady bits every other page. I think the story would be really good if the author toned down the sex by 60%. I was looking for a story not smut. DNF p.142 about 38%.

DNF after Chapter 4. I do not need to finish this, when I can already see that the central "growth" of the "hero" is going to be his love interest teaching him not to be a raging misogynist.

And if the book doesn't even manage that, I want to read it even less.

He's just the worst. Throwing massive amounts of profanity and objectification of women into his POV chapters doesn't make him interesting, doesn't give him a personality, doesn't do anything except make him into a hate-able caricature of a person.

And the second he sees the heroine, she's label as pure, different, real. Because every other woman he's ever known in his entire life is the same slutty, sex-crazed whore trying to get into his pants. Keep in mind, he hasn't even spoken to her yet, but he's already convinced she's amazing, for some reason.

He spends the rest of that chapter obsessed with finding a way to meet her, get her number, make her a part of his life--even though he knows nothing about her. Stalker, much?

I see where this is headed, and it's somewhere I don't want want to go. Romance =/= teaching a man how to be a decent human being who respects women.

Bonus badness: the writing style is amateur at best, in need of editing. An example: I want to cup her tits beneath her shirt that make a sweet curve beneath her top. First of all, since we already know exactly what she's wearing from the extensive getting-dressed section of her POV chapter beforehand, it's been established she's got a shirt on. Breasts, being a part of her body and not some sort of accessory, would logically be under that shirt. Yet, the same sentence tells us twice where her breasts are located.

It's so awful I just had to laugh.

Blurb:
He’s America’s hottest rockstar, and he’s harboring a dark secret…one that could end with deadly consequences.

She’s a small-town girl from the Midwest, escaping an overprotective family.

After catching the first solo gig by the rocker with the looks of a Greek god and the voice of an angel, Evelyn’s a goner.

But Charlie Walker is the worst kind of bad boy all wrapped up in a smoking hot body, surrounded by scandal, and completely untouchable to someone as ordinary as Evelyn.

Or so she thought.

When the chemistry between them is unleashed, the danger involved extends far beyond the threat of their relationship being thrust into the spotlight.

Great storyline!

Jennifer Ann took what could be a very repetitive rockstar romance and made it very very unique! The twists to the storyline kept me on my toes trying to figure out what happened and what the secrets were! When I started this book, I went in blind, thinking it was going to be like any other rockstar romance. That theory quickly went out the window from the very beginning!

The narration was ok. I loved the voice and style of narration but felt it could have used some touching up. Maybe 1 more pass of proofing would have greatly enhanced it.

I loved myself some Charlie. It was a sweet love story between Evelyn and Charlie, of course totally unrealistic, but enjoyable, Sharlo was awesome, love friends like that, and can't wait for her story with James, and the rest of the Kendall family and to continue to read of her continuing relationship with Charlie. Would have liked her to have let Charlie know that she had kissed Nolan even if she did it out of anger and nothing came out of it, but in my opinion, she should have fessed up.

Small town girl meets big time rock star in Jennifer Ann’s suspenseful romance, Brooklyn Rockstar. This was my first Jennifer Ann book, and I’m hooked.

Initially, Charlie Walker seems like the stereotypical rock star character. He drinks too much. He’s a womanizer with an increasingly bad reputation. He is haunted by the loss of his friend--who is also his band’s drummer, and said drummer was a very bad influence on Charlie! Danny is the little devil on Charlie’s shoulder who encourages him to make all sorts of wrong decisions. However, as the story progresses, Evelyn becomes a catalyst for Charlie to change. He internally fights his wanton thoughts, and externally he fights his bad-boy image.

“You make me want to change, to become a better man and not be another famous a***ole who’s known for having a different chick on his arm every week. I don’t know where m career is headed. I don’t know where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing a week, even a day from now, but I know I’ll get through anything with you be my side.” --Charlie

Evelyn is a sweet, inexperienced farm girl from Minnesota. She moves to NYC to get away from her loving, but over-protective, brothers so she can spread her wings and experience life. Evelyn is the type of character you can’t help but love. She is nice, happy, and believable. Evelyn moves in with online friend, Sharlo, who has become her best friend. Sharlo is another adorable character. I’d love to have had a couple roommates/friends like Evelyn and Sharlo.

Stand out secondary characters include Katie, Charlie’s sister; she is a delight! Connor and Taz, Katie’s sons, need a good dose of discipline. They’re rather unlikable as the spoiled, entitled brats without a positive role model. I was happy when Charlie realizes that he’s been a terrible role model for his nephews, but that is not totally unexpected given his male role models were his womanizing father and his equally bad best friend.

Together, Charlie and Evelyn have great chemistry. I loved them together, and I was rooting for them from the start! Evelyn drives Charlie to do the unthinkable—to think of love and “forever”. He’s never been inspired to take it slow and get to know a woman, but he’s never before met a non-groupie, real-deal woman like Evelyn. They don’t play games, and there is only a little silly, miscommunication-based angst. There is definitely an instant attraction between the two, but they agree to slow things down for their own reasons. Charlie thinks Evelyn is worthy of a real relationship and wants to treat her right, and Evelyn doesn’t believe a rockstar could possibly be interested in her for more than a conquest—especially given Charlie’s reputation. Their relationship progresses and grows at a perfect pace, and it’s helped along a bit by Sharlo’s support and advice to her bestie, Evelyn.

“The raw electricity crackling between us becomes too wicked to fight any longer.” --Charlie

Brooklyn Rockstar is deemed a suspenseful romance, but suspense is on the back burner for over half of the book. There is an underlying tone of suspense but it is not a driving factor in the early story line. Later in the book, a couple great twist and revelations from the PI hired to find Danny the missing drummer rapidly bring the story to a spectacular culmination. Avoid reviews with spoilers and detailed plot descriptions because the joy of this read will be ruined if you know what is coming. The story is brilliantly told in dual POV. Brooklyn Rockstar is fun, sweet, sexy, and satisfying, and I look forward to reading it again!

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Im just jumping in with both feet here and saying straight away that I loved Brooklyn Rockstar with ALLLL the loves! I honestly cant say enough good things about this book so if you dont want to read several lines of me gushing and fawning about this story go ahead and stop reading.... now.

First up. Charlie Walker.... Ohhhh...Charlie Walker. He checks all the right boxes. Rock star looks, personality, body, tattoos.. yep, hes got them covered. The man has the voice of an angel and the body of a devil. He is the lead man of the once super hot group Thrashtag, who is now embarking on a solo gig until the band can get their act back together.
Enter sweet, innocent Evelyn Kendall. A hometown girl fresh off the farm who has moved to Brooklyn Heights to fulfill a lifelong dream of living in the big city. Shes beautiful and immediately catches Charlies eye. He wants her bad and the feeling is mutual. But can Evelyn deal with the pressure of Charlies fame and his past? Can Charlie handle her big, slightly overbearing family?

This was my first book by this author but let me assure you with all assurances, it WILL NOT be my last. I think Jennifer Ann could quickly become one of my one click authors and that is big to me because I read a lot. I thought the characters (especially Charlie and Evelyn) were very three dimensional and well developed. The story line had a great flow to it. I was never tempted to skip or skim. I appreciated the fact that it wasnt an overly long book but it was just long enough and had enough depth to keep me interested from cover to cover. Even with it being an ARC and not the final version, I didnt notice any spelling or grammatical errors.

I really have nothing but praise for Brooklyn Rockstar. I would recommend it for anyone who is a fan of adult contemporary romance, who doesnt mind a little suspense and a whole lot of sexy steam!

I give Brooklyn Rockstar by Jennifer Ann 5***** WickedGoodStars and honestly would give it more if I could. I LOVED IT!! And I will definitely be recommending it to all of my fellow readers.

PS. Dear Jennifer, If you are reading this... I need James' story. PRONTO! ;)

I reviewed my personal copy of this book for Wicked Reads.
I came across this author and book as a freebie listed on a facebook Rockstar book group site and it looked like everything I like to read in a rock star romance. Brooklyn Rockstar did not disappoint me!
I really enjoyed Charlie Walkers character! The famous lead singer of Thrashtag, Charlie is attempting a solo career after the drummer of his band goes missing. He's unsure of his new stuff and the label is making him second guess himself. During a small solo performance Charlie locks gazes with Evelyn, the new waitress at the bar. He's floored by her stunning natural beauty in a world of fake women and even faker friends. She seems real to Charlie and he needs something real in his life right now. It's a little quick on the instalove but their relationship is a fun ride. Charlie's past has some dark secrets that take the plot on a few twists & turns. I completely enjoyed the couple's chemistry and banter and Jennifer Ann wrote a very believable male lead. Charlie had alpha hottie rockstar persona down along with a sweet vulnerable side, I grew to really feel for him.

Review:

This was my first book by author Jennifer Ann and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed this book and hope there is a second to the series. Hopefully it will be a spin off of Evelyn's roommate and maybe Evelyn's brother getting together. They seemed like they were into one another so I hope to see where that will go.

This was a great story about this sweet and innocent country girl going to the big city to only one day meet this bad boy rockstar with a history the entire world knows. I love each character in their own way. The writing was good and kept me captivated in Evelyn and Charlie's world. If you like books about musician, then this is a must read!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Very typical story line. Midwest innocent farm girl goes to New York and meets bad boy manwhore rocker her first week. It's love at first sight on his part. He even asks her to move in with him after 3 weeks! But where it really fell apart for me was the last part of the book. It went completely off the rails into ridiculousness. Skimmed to the end just to be finished with it.

The story beginning was promising, but midway through it started to get rushed. Too much going on and very little explanation.

I liked Evelyn’s character from the start, but didn’t Much like Charlie’s attitude in the beginning. Sure he saw the light about his womanizing ways the second he locked eyes on Evelyn, but there are only so many excuses for behaving like man-whore and then complaining when women won’t leave you alone.

There were tons of side characters that didn’t have much depth or meaning.

Beginning - Good
Middle - Dull
End - Extremely rushed

Evelyn💘Charlie Terrific Story & Audible Listen🎧 4.5 Rocking Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Brooklyn Rockstar
Kendall Family, Book 1
By: Jennifer Ann
Narrated by: Amanda Stribling

I am a huge fan of rockstar romance and Jennifer Ann does not disappoint. I enjoyed this book, it is well written, well told with interesting storylines that were filled with drama, angst, some unexpected twists as well as hot romance. The characters are complex and well developed, a rock god with issues meets small town girl who is following her dreams by living in NYC. I really liked Evelyn and her bravery to up and leave her family and life on the farm for a whole new life. She rooms with Sharlo, a person she met online and befriended. Sharlo also hooks her up with a waitressing job, Evelyn’s new boss gave Sharlo two tickets to Charlie Walker’s sold out show, his first appearance as a solo act. His is he lead in the rock band Trashtag who are on a break because the drummer is missing in action. Evelyn never heard of Trashtag or Charlie Walker but was happy to go celebrate with her new roomy in her new city. They get close to the stage and Charlie locks eyes with Evelyn and sees something in them. He needs to find out who she is. When it comes to women Charlie does not have a good reputation, he is a player and love them and leave type of guy. But he realizes he wants more and he thinks Evelyn may be his more. I liked how everything played out, there was a touch of mystery and suspense, kept wondering what was the deal with that female reporter, was she an obsessed fan, what really happened to Danny, why did he up and leave? The author keeps you guessing and all falls in place by the end. I was happy that Charlie grew as a person by the end, he had self worth issues and events in life, as well as Evelyn made him realize he can love, he is worth it. Jennifer Ann, thank you for this great story I am looking forward to the rest of the series, I hope it becomes available on Audible soon.

I listened to the Audible edition, Amanda Stribling is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. She brings these characters to live, gives each their own voice and personality. She does a great job with accents, loved Sharlo’s English, she nailed that British humor slang! She put a lot of heart into her performance, you could hear the emotions of the characters as well as the drama of the story. Amanda is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧

If you like a sweet and steamy romance all rolled into one, don’t miss Jennifer Ann’s Brooklyn Rockstar. Ann creates a loveable rocker complete with some attitude, star power, and the capacity to fall head over heels in love. And of course, it doesn’t hurt that Charlie Walker is smoking hot! Brooklyn Rockstar begins with Charlie striking out on his own, because the drummer of his band is missing. His solo career is off to a rough start as some of his offerings are not well loved, as well as some bad press due in part to his own bad behavior.

Charlie plays a cozy show in a small bar where recently transplanted Minnesota farm girl Evelyn has just landed a job. The night of the concert, Evelyn is at the bar on a night out with a girlfriend. Up close to the stage, she can’t help but feel the chemistry when Charlie Walker watches her while he performs. Surely, she’s imagining the connection. Why would a rockstar like Charlie Walker give her a second look?

What follows is a fun, sweet, and sexy romance, as Charlie starts hanging out at Evelyn’s bar in disguise, just to get to know her. Evelyn is quickly thrown into the crazy world of rockers and paparazzi. Can they fight the press and Charlie’s fans, as well as Evelyn’s over protective brothers to find their true love?

Readers will cheer for Charlie and Evelyn’s romance and have a lot of fun right along with them. ~Tracy Broemmer, author of the Lorelei Bluffs series

I listened to the audiobook version of this book.
At the very beginning, it seems like it's going to be a typical rockstar romance where famous guy meets plain Jane they instantly fall in love and continue on with no issues with everything going perfectly and no intrusion from the outside world or tabloids the. they live happily ever after. The author includes a more unique spin (which I really like) which is that she includes interactions with reporters/ paparazzi and the effects of their intrusion on celebrity lives. I also like how she goes about normalizing Charlie so that he doesn't have that total jerk vibe even though he is famous. She takes the time to build a reasonable relationship between Charlie and Evelyn so that their relationship seems more genuine instead of giving us an insta-love. It does have some super hot moments in it as things progress.

The narrator's performance made this a super cute rockstar romance, to me. I thought she did a great job in this performance. Her voice was pleasant and I liked her as Evelyn.

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Brooklyn rockstar is not your average rockstar romance. I expected your typical lead singer meets normal girl and falls in love, but this story has a few twists that make it completely different. Charlie and Evelyn are the stars of this novel. Evelyn is a beautiful, yet naive woman who has been sheltered by her brothers. Charlie is a rockstar, living the wild life. When he meets Evelyn, his life changes. But secrets and fame may just be the thing that breaks them apart. Jennifer Ann has infused a storyline that kept me wanting to know what would happen next. A little suspense and a mystery to solve, as a listener I had to find out what would happen next and how it would impact Charlie & Evelyn. The twist was a surprise and the ending was perfect. And oh, the song Charlie writes will leave you swooning.....

The narration of the story by Amanda Stribling is wonderful. She is able to give voice to the characters, though at times it was a little difficult to differentiate who was talking. I loved her English accent and thought her pacing of the story was perfect.
