The third and final novel in the Dark Inside series.
It’s been nine months since the earthquakes destroyed most of the world and the Baggers awakened. Now Aries, Mason, Clementine and Michael must fight the final battle for their lives. Only this time, the sides aren’t quite so clear. And it looks like the only people who can help, are the very killers themselves.
There’s a new threat to survival. The Ferals. Baggers who have gone so completely insane, they will kill anything that crosses their paths, including their own kind.
Mason knows he can’t trust Leon, the Bagger leader. He knows exactly what kind of monster Leon is. But without the Baggers help, they can’t stop the Ferals from killing all the survivors, especially the ones still being held hostage at the Plaza of Nations. And it doesn’t help that Daniel is back, determined to save Aries from everyone, including himself.
With the Ferals closing in, the four friends must make tough decisions. Who can you trust in a world where everyone wants you dead?

A lover of animals, Jeyn volunteers regularly with helping abandoned and abused animals, especially cats.
Ohh Wow what an ending, I kind off hope one day the author will change her mind and continue the series or a spin off series. I loved the books, the world building, the characters, the way they had their unique voice and story to tell. I was pulled me in, the books were action packed, fast paced and just a great series.
Re read the series love it, changed rating to 5 stars
Hmmm.. I have no idea what to write. I have very mixed feelings on this conclusion, and it's hard to say why.
I adored book 1, enjoyed book 2 a lot, but this one fell a little flat for me. It wasn't terrible. 3 stars isn't a bad rating, it shows I did enjoy it. But just, sadly, not as much as the previous books.
I think the main problem was the time. I picked this book up but just as I was half way through, ACOWAR came out, and I HAD to start ACOWAR straight away. Then, after ACOWAR, I just wasn't in the mood for anything like this. I needed something completely new and different to stop me going into a slump. So this sat on my shelf half read for probably a week. Then when I finally picked it up again, I had lot a lot of the love I had for the characters and series as before. It just didn't feel the same. I also wasn't over keen on the way the "normal baggers" weren't that dangerous anymore. I loved the action and actual fear from the zombies baggers from book 1, so their newer, less fearsome version didn't pull me in as much. I did like the addition of the ferals, but by then I wasn't as immersed in the world.
I really like the characters, and wish we'd had a bit more of an epilogue by the end. . I liked the romance, but the ending was sad. I wanted a bit more of a HEA for my favourite character. I did like that the ending was open for potentially more though. I can still hope.
Definitely would still recommend this series to anyone who like Dystopian/Horror YA, and I will look into more from this author in the future.
The release of the book was a surprise, and it was a pleasant one! A nice closure to the story, it left several open ends but otherwise it would have felt forced.
This is certainly the best YA Dystopia series I've ever read - it feels gritty and realistic enough yet it doesn't go too far into gore and shock-value. I've read the first book in the year of 2015 and back then I thought how that book didn't need a continuation but I did read the sequel (liked it as well, but had same thoughts)
Half a decade has passed since then and I still thought about this series and I decided to give it a reread and finally read the final installment.
Overall I'm happy I did but I think I'd like it more if the series ended before even starting - at book 1. I didn't like the direction of the plot with "sentient zombies" and "not so sentient zombies" and I was afraid this series would have a happy ending - and it sort of does. I wanted something more open-ended and dark and bitter from this trilogy.
Finally finished all 3 books. Perhaps because I had to re read the 2 other books again and then immediately (okay 1 book in between) began reading this I am not loving it as everybody else does.
There were weird jokes being made constantly while they were in danger. I think what is the biggest flaw of the books especially this one, is people do not act this way. Someone who was on the verge of death and was not able to walk cannot beat an entire crew of meanies 15 minutes later. People do not make such silly jokes when their lives are in danger. Afterwards they will. I know because I love gallow humour.
What I liked was that some favorites died. Not many authors dare do that so I give a star just for that. The ending was fine. 3.5
Nine months after the earthquakes destroyed the world and the Baggers took over, Aries, Clementine, Mason and Michael must fight their fiercest battle yet.
As a new wave of horror takes over the streets, the Ferals, the group of teenagers must welcome their enemies as their allies in order to survive.
The Ferals don’t care about anyone in their path, and will kill even their own kind.
There are survivors being help captive at the Plaza of Nations by the Baggers. Their leader, Leon, a monster of his kind needs help from the group of teenagers, but at what cost to them?
They don’t know if they can trust him but they are out of options if they are going to survive the Ferals and the terror they bring with them.
Well jeez they weren’t pulling their punches with this one! This ending broke my heart a couple times but I still really enjoyed the way it ended. It was realistic and tragic but also hopeful.
The end of the last book had me thinking this one was going to go in a different direction, one I didn’t think I would like. But this ended up being different than what I expected and in the best way! I really liked how the story progressed throughout the whole series, nothing felt rushed and it all happened the way it needed to.
I do however wished we got a little more information on Aries and her effect on the baggers. That was clearly very important and only slightly touched on. It could have at least been mentioned briefly at the end but that’s okay. Especially cause of Jordan and his brother, he needs hope!!
Daniel and Mason have the best friendship. I want nothing but the best for Clementine.
I had to reread the first two books in this series since it was 5 yrs. ago that I had read this amazing story. I think it may have been even better the second time around. I had always wished for a third book in this series and I was thrilled to find out that one finally existed.
And it left me very happy, to revisit Aries, Clementine, Michael, Mason, Daniel, Jack, Joy and the others that followed in this group of survivors.
The only one I wasn't happy to read about was Colin. An ass from book one, some things don't change. That's all I've got to say about that.
We come back to this group with Mason still at the Plaza of Nations, along with a lot of other prisoners, held by the Baggers, Leon being the leader of the pack. He won't leave and rejoin the others, even though they took off his ankle bracelet. The threat of killing Casey, the little girl that adopted him as her father after hers was killed was enough to keep him in place.
What he doesn't know, is that Aries and the others found out where the existing children are being kept and they plan to rescue them, and then bring Mason back as well.
But not only are the Baggers a threat, but there is a new breed in town, the Ferals. They're worse than the Baggers; they have no conscious and no thought process. They only know how to kill, tearing their victims apart by hand, and they don't care if their victims are Baggers or human, they have only one mission and they travel in packs of 100's.
Can the Baggers and Aries gang all work together to free Vancouver of the Ferals, or will everyone perish once the Ferals make it to the Plaza of Nations and surrounding area?
Loved this book. Some lived, some died, (of course it was bound to happen that we would lose some characters that we loved) but all in all, this was a very enjoyable story to read. I could even wish for another book in this series, but I don't think I'd be that lucky
A good ending to an incredible trilogy...So sad it's over, but loved the journey with Aries, David, Mason, Clem, Michael and many others. May the light continue to shine in humans.
I don't know how I didn't know this book existed. I loved the other books in this series and honestly gave up hope of this book ever coming out. So I ask again how the hell did I not know about this book? It was so good and had a great ending that really gave me some closure. I always hate when the end of a series leaves me with questions and I think this one pretty much closed all of the gaps.
The same old characters are back again this time with a newbie that *gasp* has a freaking gun. It's about damn time these people got a gun. Aries is still the leader of the group and she was even stronger in this book. She did what she had to do to protect her group. Clementine and Michael were adorable but I hated what the author did with that situation. Now on to Mason and Daniel, oh my love for these two boys. No wonder Aries can never choose between them. Mason is a great guy who was willing to stay in Hell so no one would die for him. Daniel was just as dark and mysterious as ever still fighting the darkness from taking over.
Just when I thought baggers couldn't get any worse ferals were introduced. They are people that the darkness took over them and they had zero control over themselves anymore. They killed and destroyed any and everything. Because of the ferals, Aries and her group tried to work together with the baggers to fight this horde of monsters.
Overall this book was fantastic. It closed up all of the storylines and put a big bloody bow on top. I'm so incredibly glad I found this book and finally finished this series.
I have to start this off this review by saying this: THERE ARE SOME MAJOR EDITING ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE FIXED! For example, saying the instead of they. Weird commas. At one point Janey was spelled Janie. There are some sentenced that just don't make any sense because of typos. A good read through and grammatical cleaning would definitely do this book some good. Also, a more professional printing. It just looks like the book was written in Google Docs and printed and then bound into the book.
I LOVE THIS BOOK SERIES! It was wonderful. I figured out Daniel was Nothing early on in this final novel, but I got the almost definite confirmation at the end of the book when he talks about letting Aries think he is dead.
The final words were powerful. "I am Nothing. I Live." Pretty much every time I have read a book, I have read the final sentence before I start reading the book. Its a bad habit, but I do it. In this case, the last phrase was very vague. It meant nothing to me when I read it before I read the book, but reading it in context with the novel makes it that much more powerful.
I'm so happy Clementine found Heath! I wish they had gone more in depth in their reunite.
This book was incredible. I'm at a loss for words. I'm so pleased with this book. I'm happy with the way it ended and the way it panned out. I'm just happy and I'm alright with the fact that the trilogy is now over. I'm ok with it. It was good.
Now, can we get a spinoff series about Daniel and his adventures after this? A whole novel of Nothing?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
An explosive ending to an incredible trilogy. I am VERY upset about a certain characters death, which surprised me really because I wasn't a huge fan of them when I first read book 1 years ago, but they grew on me and their death was so crushing. As a writer and voracious reader, I didn't expect everyone to make it to the end of this series though. Because it's Apocalyptic fiction and the stakes are supposed to be life or death. And the character died saving someone they loved, which is how they would've wanted to go.
I loved how this book was even more nonstop action than the others, with the POV characters separated again for a lot of it, which just adds to the anxiety of the whole thing because you know what Character A knows, but you also know the other characters don't know yet. Ugh. The suspense!
And of course, I was so happy that you-know-who survived in the end, even though they didn't exactly get a happy ending. Their story was the most interesting to read about and I really think they made the trilogy.
All in all, I was happy with how everything was wrapped up and I'm very glad I finally finished reading this trilogy. If you love action, found family, survival, multi-pov, and morally grey characters and situations, definitely give this a read!
OMG just so good! this whole series was amazing and is definitely up there with my top favorites! I absolutely loved the characters and how they all acted toward each other. I loved the action and all the scary moments. This was an absolutely amazing post-apocalyptic horror series!
The ending was just complete. It gave you closure because there wasn't really a cliff hanger. I mean sure there could always be a spin off to the series added and that would be awesome, but this actually had a full ending where you don't have to wonder about what happened next with the characters. I love Aries as the true MC she was just awesome, but I honestly loved all of the characters and I enjoyed getting to know them and reading from the different POV's. I got to know these characters and I fell in love with them. I felt almost like I was right there with them experiencing all that they were experiencing. I loved feeling like I was a part of the story with them.
there was so many moments that puts you on the edge of your seat. This was such an intense and thrilling rollercoaster ride.
So I’ve waited on this book for over 3 years and I read it in 2 hrs with over 400 pages. The ending was perfect (this was the last book of the series — I would recommend everyone to go read this series!!). I do think that Jeyn felt pressured in writing this book because I did feel like it was really rushed but not in a bad way. It’s just that when I’m reading a book that I get so invested into these characters and their lives. Like when I finish a book that doesn’t have a sequel (like for example Looking For Alaska by John Green ... that book F***ED ME UP SO BADLY) or it’s the final book of the series I just get so emotional. I don’t know if this post makes sense because I’m currently crying in the club. Sorry about the language lmaoo
The story from Dead Inside & Rage Within continues with Fury Rising; once again we follow Aries, Mason & Clemintine and company as they face upto a collapsing society and seemingly possessed people ('Baggers') who have been overtaken with the darkness inside them turning into monsters with no regret, restraint or remorse.
There's more action with an attack on Aries' home base and Bagger HQ. More of the group sadly drops away and Colin the douchebag true colours are shown.
I very much enjoyed this one and the prior two books, I am hoping the author continues the series as it certainly an interesting world that she has portrayed.
The first two books were decent. The writing in a few areas was a bit juvenile. It was as if the author was trying too hard to relate to the audience, but I let that slide because I liked the story. This third book was by far the best as far as plot and everything, but what the H happened with the editing?! Maybe it's just the kindle version, but there were seriously more typos and grammatical errors than I see on my 7-year-old's homework. It kept distracting me from the story and made it really difficult to become completely immersed. If you can get past that (which is difficult), the story is pretty captivating.
So let me say straight up, I'm a big fan of this series. The writing is fantastic, the pov chapters are something I think works and the story never got old. It also managed to cross the YA line a little and had a more adult theme and yet it didn't sacrifice the pace or ease of reading.
I guess I wasn't happy with all if the lose ends being tied up the way they were, but at the same time, it had to be done. Glad certain people are dead and some still alive. And who doesn't admire an author who isn't afraid to kill off a few key characters along the way!
The group has grown since the last book still trying to survive and those Baggers which are still around.
I enjoyed this book its tied up loose ends, and the ongoing story in the series finally comes to a climax! The story is told from different perspectives so you can get a rounder and more in depth story. The chapters are varied but quite fast paced.
Definitely will keep an eye out for other works by this author
Yes!!!! I wanted another book in this series ad it happened. I was so pumped when I saw Fury Rising was published and I couldn't wait till I had time sit down and read it. I wasn't disappointed. I was confused this whole trilogy who NOTHING was but that was solved with the last insert of the book, which just gave me a smile. It's sad that there were so many deaths in this installment but those I loved the most did survive, and some even went beyond that. I am extremely satisfied :)
I’ve been waiting for this book for a while. I couldn’t find it in the library, but I had to get it so I could find out what happened to all the characters I fell in love with in the first two books. And boy, I was not disappointed. This book was action packed and full of emotion. I might have cried a little, too. But I’m glad it was a fairly happy ending.
I am so sad that the series is over. I loved the world that Jeyn created, and I loved the characters. For most of the time. I did have a few issues with this book, a lot of them being the fact that I felt it was like a second draft with many typos, but I’m still giving it 5 Stars because of how well the series captured my attention and tugged my heart strings.
I've read the first two books dozens of times over the years. This was a very nice close to the series. I like that it's open for more in the future but for now it's a good wrapup. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. My rating would be 4.5 if I could give it. My gripes are purely cosmetic and I don't feel the need to talk about them here. Overall I loved it.
Definitely worth reading the series. Kept my attention thru the whole series and the last book was as interesting as the first. I am no young adult at 66 but I enjoyed all the books.
The first two were awesome the third one well I felt she could of tooken it torge a different way than she did yes everything was summed up n questions answered but I just feel it could of had a better ending than what it was given more could of went into but did like it loved the whole series
