So this is the first book in the series and I really don't know how I feel about it. I loved the concept behind it, I loved most of the plot behind it, I don't know if it delivered what I hoped it would (if that makes any sense). The story takes place in a time after a great war where one country or power takes control, think V for Vendetta if you will. The new government has a bunch of stupid rules and of course there is one about homosexuality, as in not allowed. Break any rules and it's not death but "reset." The government controls pretty much any all scientific research and breakthroughs that they feel they can use to hold on to control. Pretty grim world...
Now, enter your two main characters, Dr. Victoria Henderson and war vet Sam Fielding. Now, Sam actually pissed me off during the book because she was basically an idiot, as in she didn't care about the severity of her actions...oh no, she knew what she was doing so can't blame ignorance. Anyways, she signs up for a voluntary research experiment headed by the Doc where they try to tap into the full potential of the brain, think Dr. X and Jean Grey potential.
The book starts off great. The Prologue was very intriguing and painting a great picture. After that, I feel the book didn't push or describe or have anything really happen on that same level of action or intensity. It was more I was being told this was happening but I wasn't described it to the point that I could see it, feel it. It wasn't a bad read. It wasn't the greatest read of this genre. Will I continue to read the series...Yes. Mainly because I wanna know what happens and I'm a sucker for these types of books.
