A Taste of Well-Being: Sadhguru's Insights for Your Gastronomics

Rate this book
In an era where a great variety of cuisines are just a restaurant away, it has become difficult to choose what to eat. Food products labelled 'healthy' one day are abruptly dismissed as 'lethal' the very next, while 'celebrity diets' are trashed by nutritionists. So what is the correct diet for your body? The answer lies within. In the Yogic tradition, food is alive, with a prana of its own. When consumed, the quality of the food influences the qualities of your body and mind. In A Taste of Well-Being, you will find recipes that have been perfected in the Isha Yoga Centre kitchen. Ranging from simple juices and salads to complete meals of grains, cereals and curries, the recipes are peppered with profound insights from Sadhguru on the process of eating and digestion. A book that will help you discover the potential that lies within you and the joy you can derive from the simple act of eating.

Food is about the body. We must eat what is suitable for this body, but people want to make food into a habit. I want to tell you there is no such thing as good habit and bad habit. Habit means you’re functioning unconsciously. If you are functioning unconsciously, that’s a bad thing because the whole thing about being human is we are capable of doing things consciously. That is the beauty of being human that we can do everything consciously. What an animal does unconsciously,
we can do the same thing consciously.

We can eat unconsciously or we can eat consciously. We can breathe unconsciously or we can breathe consciously. Everything that we can do, we can do it consciously. The moment we do something consciously, suddenly that human being looks very refined and wonderful. Just because somebody walks and speaks consciously, he becomes a beautiful human being.

I took a whole day just to go through all the recipes, savouring almost all of them, atleast in my head. I like the fact that a lot of the dishes have coconut in them , which for my half Malyali heart and stomach, is absolute love :) These dishes have been explained well, in simple language and are very much practical to make. Also, salads are a huge part of the book , which are often missing in cookbooks. The salads are new, fresh, made up of different items and just delectable!

I actually love this book. At first all the Indian descriptions/names of dishes made me feel rly lightheaded. By the way, Who knew groundnuts are just simple peanuts. Makes sense too, since that’s where they grow. Butter fruit aka avocado is my personal favourite.
I made my very first fish today. I suck at cooking, so this is challenging for me. But I also want to eat healthy and responsibly. This is also kind of my semi secret gateway into easy Ayurveda without it getting too boogywoogy dancing with the cobras for me.

Sadhguru’s passion for cooking is well known. Arundhathi Subramaniam remarks in Sadhguru’s biography, More Than A Life, “His love of life extends to other areas as well. He enjoys cooking when he finds the time, and claims to make the meanest masala dosa on the planet. His daughter vouches for this (and adds with cheerful extravagance that he is ‘the best cook in the whole world’).” Gordon Ramsay, the voluble British chef famed for his eccentric ways, had many a good thing to say about Sadhguru’s cooking and the ashram’s food when he visited the Isha Yoga Centre.

However, Sadhguru says that his schedule nowadays doesn’t permit him much time to indulge in "dosa-making."

This book gives some insights into the nature of food and also on Indian traditions. This book explains various traditional Indian dishes and also the importance of fasting. Many Indians have forgotten the tradition of authentic Indian food such as Indians always used pepper but over time it is replaced by Green chilli which came from Mexico and Indian millets are replaced by Grains. It is time we get back to our traditions to live healthier.

The Taste of Well-Being by Sadhguru can be tagged in TBR (to be read) for anyone interested in knowing & understanding the connection between food, health, and spirituality. The book also provides practical insights into the traditional Indian approach to food and cooking, and it adaption to modern lifestyles. Mindful eating, the right eating habits, and the use of spices and probiotics are majorly the topics covered in the text, making it a valuable resource for anyone looking to improve their health with food habits. The book offers a different POV on the role of food in our lives, and how it can be used not only for nourishment & survival of physical bodies but also for enhancing our minds and souls for developing clarity & Consciousness. The book details a range of recipes that may or may not be delicious but most definitely super healthy. The Nexus between mindful eating and the connection between food and our inner well-being is emphasized & simplified. At the outset, The Taste of Well-Being is a read for those looking to learn recipes for healthy lifestyle and get better clarity & understanding about the food they consume.

I finished going through the whole book in less than 2hours. I have been looking to shif to a 95% vegetarian lifestyle and this book has been one of the guiding lights through this. In my opinion, the book has some very simple to follow recipes. I have tried quite a few of the recipes. Simplicity is a very complex and abstract concept in itself. Do not let the simplicity of the recipes fool you into thinking the dishes are bland! ☺️They are tasty, wholesome, nourishing and healthy!
