संघर्ष Krishna ki Atmkatha #7 by Manu Sharma- This series of books on Krishna is based on the Hindu Epic story contained in Mahabharata, Shrimad Bhagwada and other contemporary books. Part VII relates to battle of Kurukshetra. Pandavas defeated Kuru army with leading warriors like Bhishma, Dronacharya, Kripacharya, Karn, Duryodhana, Dusshasana, Ashwasthama and other well- known warriors at Matysa attack. Pandavas declared that a period of one year incognito is over and according to the terms of game of dice, they should be returned their Indraprastha Kingdom. Kings in favour of Pandavas collect in King Virat’s palace. If peace is not acceptable then war should be fought. Messengers were senet to all kngs to invite them to participate in the war. Durydhana and Arjuna travel of Dwarka to invite Yadavs to participate in the war. Krishna provides the choice of Arjuna to option either for Krishna who will not fight but be a charioteer to Arjuna and the Yadava Army. Arjuna chooses Krishna while Duryodhana is happy with the Yadav army. On joint suggestion, a Brahmin messenger from Panchala kingdom was sent with the message of return of kingdom to Pandavas. The Kuru court did not decide in their favour. Shri Krishna arrived as second messenger of peace. Shri Krishna appeared before the Kuru Mahasabha and delivered a discourse on the scourge of war and the importance of peace in a kingdom. Krishna requested that even if five villages could be given to Pandavas, they would live in peace. But even this proposal was denied. Krishna returned and informed the incidents of the visit. As peace was not acceptable, war was declared. For Pandavas, Panchal King Drupad, Matsya King Virat, Magadh, Chedi, Kunti Kingdom, Yushistar, Bhim, Arjuna, Nakul, Sahadev, Shikahandi, Up Pandavas, Abhimanyu, Satyaki were warriors while Dhristadumna was Commander. For Kurus, Bhishma Pitamah was commander, Duryodhana, Dronacharya, Kripacharya, Karn, Ashwasthama, Shalya, Jaigratha, Kritverma, Bhurishrawa were warriors. Shakuni was strategist for Kurus while Shrikrishna was strategist for Pandavas. Kuru army was 17 Akshohani while Pandava army was 7 akshohani including chariots, elephants, horsemen and infantry. Bhojkataa, Vidur and Balram are non-participants in this war. These three are neutral. Dhritrshtra is blind and he wishes to know about every incident about the war. Therefore, Rishi Ved Vyas provided celestial eyes to Sanjay the charioteer of Dhritrastra to be able to view the war and narrate the incidents. Bhishma does not invite Karn to fight undr his Commandership, thus Karn is waiting to join as and when invited. Both armies line up at the Kurukshetra battle field. Yudhistar arrives, walks down to the chariot of Bhishma, Drona and Kripacharya to seek their blessings for victory in war. The three bless Yudhistar for victory. Arjuna feels that this war is between brothers where all mighty kings of the country are participating. The result of the war will be killing of young men, destruction of army, which will result in dearth of food and resultant poverty. He questions Shri Krishna about the futility of war and why he should not return back instead of killing his nears and dears. Shri Krishna explains Gita Rashasya to him stating that it is the duty of a warrior to fight for his right. Result of war should be left in the hands of God. Shri Krishna shows him his Virat Swaroop.
