Claire Manson is an ordinary girl living an ordinary life, and she already has the entirety of her life planned out for inherit her grandmother’s bakery, fall in love, start a family, and essentially, live happily. Along the way, she hopes to find a sense of adventure in her dreary life, and love seems to be that adventure she is oh-so desperately seeking.

And she finds it, but not in the way she had, or could ever have, imagined.

Moving from the city of London to the quiet town of Louth seemed like a dream come true—there, she had spent many unforgettable summers of her childhood. But she quickly comes to discover that it’s everything but peaceful.

It’s a living nightmare.

Death as a daily spectacle, people living in constant fear, a terribly corrupt police force, all because of a power-hungry gang submitting its domination and power through force and violence. Claire finds herself in the midst of their fury, and she has no choice but to turn to an even more dangerous organization which, strangely, becomes her only source of haven.

And it is there she meets Heath.

Meeting Heath turns her entire world upside down—morally and logically. He’s everything her mother warned her about, and he’s far from a knight in shining armor. Being with him comes danger, death, and fear, but he’s everything she never knew she wanted, and the more she falls for him, the less of a chance there is for her ever turning back.

In a world where loyalty is nonexistent, can she trust him with not only her life, but her heart?

i rated this book not because of its story but for all what it made me feel and think, i took it knowing that i'd read the original story but seems like it was all and completely defferent from the fanfiction i've read and still read -i love it too much; every chapters made me question myself, life and what's happening around me which was really good to think about for few mins -i was literally like holding the book and thinking of the whole situation for mins till i realise that i'm outside or maybe at home lost; i liked how it was all focused on the friendship and the dark but real life in other side and things that are happening in the book's world even tho there was few parts of "love" things it wasn't that detailed or that important to be honest but that was okay -i was in that phase where i couldn't stand any love story; it took me some time to read it honestly but i was in a huge reading slump which sucks !! thank you Sarah, again xx

I loved it! This is the sort of story of a good girl turned bad, and it has some romantic moments in it, as well as a lot of bad boy elements that make the story fascinating for a female audience. Claire knows exactly what she wants out of life in a logical way, but she doesn't have the same feelings in her lizard brain and subconscious, so when she's confronted with Heath, who represents the exact opposite of the nice and clean life she's picked out for herself, she finds herself in an internal struggle to keep everything together.

The writing is fun and the story is engrossing. I liked the characters and thought they were well put together. The depiction of the little town was excellent. This book is a real win for a YA audience that likes stories of good girls falling in love with the bad guys.

I read this when it was just a fanfiction, I was hooked and when I found out it was a book I couldn't believe it and read it in a day and it was just as great as when I first read it.
