Rate this book
Dashing Ralph Wade desires to marry the beautiful Leann, but her father, John Clark, is protective of his pretty daughter. He likes Ralph Wade; however, Ralph is a farmer, trying to make a living off the land after the Civil War. John knows first-hand the difficulty of supporting a family in the war’s aftermath. He wants Leann to marry a businessman when she comes of age. Ralph’s struggle to win Leann intensifies when a gang of outlaws kidnap her and almost kill him. He battles the demon of doubt in himself to earn a living for a family and secure his love’s hand in marriage.

Leann adores the handsome Ralph Wade and yearns to be his wife. She struggles with jealousy over a girl Ralph befriends and her faith in his love. After a harrowing experience with the outlaws who are decimating the Missouri countryside, she realizes life is uncertain. Making a home with Ralph takes priority over the security of money and position in the community. She wants a large, happy family with Ralph.

Ralph Wade is determined to make Leann his wife; however, he realizes the struggle to earn a living from the land is not favorable for a happy marriage. Leann wants a big family and he may not be able to support her. More dilemmas arise when his sense of duty will not let him neglect a beautiful barmaid in trouble, although helping her will add to the difficulties with Leann and her family. Ralph has an accident, keeping him from fulfilling a promise to Leann, then he is unsuccessful in maintaining her safety. Leann and her father begin to doubt Ralph’s worthiness as a husband and father. Ralph must prove himself a worthy suitor. He is a fighter, determined to make desirable Leann his wife. Will the dream of a happy life with the woman he loves become a reality?
