Great approach to training and recommended for those people who compete.

There is a lot of information here, and better to have a structured training approach as opposed to just training any and everything. You get what you train for.

The sample programs are a little confusing as it didn't state what periodization method was being used, and there was lots of variety in the exercises. It was my understanding that there was meant to be less variety so that the athlete could acclimate each of the exercises and perform them with better efficiency over time.

Pretty good. Bridges a number of crucial gaps between theory and practice. Good mix of science and and actual exercises. Only part of a complete library on the subject, I suspect.

The books attempted to offer you guidelines to construct your own workout routine. It failed. It was not well linked together. Not to mention the 20-odd missing pages between the Fit Test and Warm Up chapters. Each chapter talked about how important a certain activity is, but no consistent schedule of how to incorporate it into your routine. In the cases that there was some direction, it conflicted with direction in a chapter later in the book. For example, the later chapters of the book offer programs for Kicking and Striking martial arts 3 times a week. These are supposed to have conditioning incorporated. But the earlier chapters advised of a conditioning routines claiming to be absolutely essential, yet they weren't incorporated in the Kicking & striking. The book wasn't well written or organized. It attempted but failed.

What the book did offer was many examples of workouts for any type of individual athletic goal. Such as speed, foot work, balance, or strength. I did find the photos and descriptions helpful. But ultimately I have to spend a significant amount of time selecting what will work for me, and how I will incorporate it into my week.

I received an copy of this book from Goodreads. This book is full of easy to follow exercises. I like that photos of both men and women are shown and that there are multiple photographs showing the different steps of each exercise. There are also plans for putting it all together to get in the best shape for martial arts.
