Tessa Armstrong is unable to trust any man with her heart. Not after the way her husband had cheated on her. So when she moves across the country, the last thing on her mind is falling in love.
But then Lincoln Vaughn marches into her life and is more than determined to have her for reasons of his own. Only this time Tessa is going to put up one hell of a fight. She won't give in until she is sure she is what he wants and she is who he loves.
Clarissa Cartharn is the author of romance novels such as Captive,Perfect Vengeance and the action/romance Jar series.
Traveling, learning new languages and cultures are some of her interests which have inspired her books. She turned her love for writing into a full-pledged passion with her first romance, Winter's End and has since never looked back. After almost ten romance novels, each with eclectic themes ranging from angsty Cinderella inspirations to thrillers set in the barren war torn lands of Afghanistan, Clarissa is currently on a new adventure to find her next love story.
Her Writing Style: 1. A premise 2. Romance 3. Realism 4. Heat. Yep, yep and yep 5. Vulgarity- where needed be. Oh come on, if she's gonna be writing about warlords, arms dealers, drug traffickers and rough-necked soldiers, then please don't expect them to be minding their tenses and grammar. 6. Oh yes, and a plot! Especially, a plot! A darned good one!

I was kindly given a free copy from the author herself to review this book and I was ecstatic as would anyone because a free book is a free book! But unfortunately, and I wish it wasn't so, I'm not going to be writing a good, satisfied review. But thank you Clarissa for this generous opportunity!!
I'm so glad I read this though, because I respect and applaud this author Clarissa for putting herself out there. I'm writing a novel myself and just thinking of publishing my book and receiving negative feedback is scary. But, that's part of the package!
The book started out okay. It was good, in fact. We got introduced to the main female protagonist, we understood her background and her motive for wanting to get on her adventure and then we followed her as she took off.
I found the writing itself to be annoying, because it felt like it didn't coincide with a contemporary book. But nonetheless, I continued on with the story since I was curious enough to want to know what's gonna happen with Marie whom I completely loved, ( that woman had a big heart ).
I liked the aura of mystery in this big big house that had history and soul etched into its walls. I enjoyed Simone and Liam alot. Wish I spent more time with them.
Unfortunately though sometime after we met Marie, the story's pace catapulted and threw me off. One minute we were here, another minute we were there.
Some scenes felt unrealistic for me and completely rushed.
I didn't enjoy Lincoln's character as much as I wanted to. I enjoyed Sean's character more.
I wish the author focused more on the FEELS rather than the wording.
All in all, it didn't exceed my expectations and I hope I enjoy Clarissa's other books more!
I m not sure where to start with this book. It was a nice read and I didn't dislike any of the characters but I didn't like them either. It all seemed a bit thrown together and the story lines not fully complete.
We meet Tessa, a nurse who is running from her old life, a dead husband who was cheating on her. She is hired to nurse Marie. So when Marie dies Lincoln is all hers. Will two damaged souls come together?.......Story one.
Part 2... Will Tessa and Lincoln fall in love and save the ranch?
This book could have been 2 books if both story lines would have been fully developed. Part 2 when Tessas family arrived had so much potential. You could see this family together and having lots of fun. With the drama and the twists and turns. There was so much that could have been developed within the book. Marie's condition, the whys and how's. Not just a one liners.
I like to read Cartharn’s stories for the realism in her characters. The Yearning, is a classic Cartharn story full of what people really do and feel. She paints a great picture of a woman, Tessa, who’s lost all confidence as a female and is in great emotional pain. Tessa Armstrong is a well-drawn heroine and as I read the story, I hoped she would have the happy ending she clearly deserved. The hero, Lincoln, is an interesting character. Glimpses of his sexy side are shown along with his stoic side, until finally we find out why he’s the way he is, and he blossoms into a very likeable character. Full of emotion and doubt the hero and heroine do a slow dance toward a satisfying outcome, and face a range of situations and danger. A dynamic story, portraying real emotions with an interesting setting—five stars.
This book is a wonderful read. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. I tend to get frustrated when a story keeps the main characters constantly at odds and not opening up with each other. That tended to frustrate me but I did enjoy the story line. At times I wanted to jump in the pages and shake Lincoln to just open up and be honest with Tessa. But that is the story; we have to push thru for the good stuff.
There are some hot, steamy, intense sexy parts that are my favorite. Very enjoyable story. The story line took me by surprise and kept me turning pages as quick as I could. I couldn’t read this fast enough. I had to know what would happen next. Not your normal romance, love story….read as they figure it all out!
Copy graciously provided by the lovely author in exchange for an honest review; and here it is..
3 stars!!
I loved the story! The story line needed a bit of editing but it was good :) The plot was capturing with a few twists that will grab your attention.
But..
What made the story less lovable, for me, was that the characters seemed to be sulking quite a bit!
With how the story was going you'd expect the despair.. but not this much or this long! And I'm thinking that kind of negativity in the characters was a bit of a downer for me.. it could have gone a bit better.
Wishing the author the best of luck, with thanks for the opportunity to read one of her books :)
This review is based on a copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest opinion.
This book had two separate storylines. They both had good solid bones, and if they were combined; ie the whole story took place with a sick Marie and that storyline at the ranch with the trafficker storyline this would have been an EXEMPLARY book. The way it is now both story lines work against each other, which is unfortunate because I know this author has a lot of talent.
If you want to read something different I highly suggest this book. The story line was unique, the author took risks which is definitely commendable and the whole ranch trafficker plot made the story more than just a typical contemporary piece. A thoughtful, steadily paced, entertaining read.
