She’s a horse whisperer. He’s a slick city lawyer. Who’d have thought they’d be perfect for one another?

With another crushing breakup behind her, Elle Roberts is done with love. These days all her energy is devoted to her equestrian business. That is until Nicholas Sterling arrives with his horse, Leo. After one ride, she’s convinced she can help the troubled animal. But what about the man? Sure he’s rich and charming and ridiculously handsome, but Elle assures herself she’s not interested. Turns out that’s a big fat lie.

Nicholas knows he’s damaged. And damaged people don’t deserve love. But something extraordinary happens when he’s with Elle. For the first time in his life, he’s able to trust. In her. And in them. The future stretches before him, filled with glorious possibilities. And he’s happy. Incredibly, unbelievably happy. But no sooner are they settled into their relationship than a tragic event triggers Nicholas’s deepest insecurities.

Can Elle find a way to heal his heart or will this ultimately tear them apart?

Marion Myles hasn't always been a writer. She spent the first few decades of her life as a professional equestrian and travelled across North America training and competing at horse shows.

Aside from horses, she has had an enduring love affair with the written word. Her reading interests run the gamut from mystery to fantasy to woman's fiction and even young adult. But when it comes right down to it, her heart definitely lies in the romance section.

When not riding or writing, she devotes any spare moments to battling a debilitating addiction to Smarties and stalking her favourite authors on the internet. She's proud to say there are currently no restraining orders filed against her.

Marion lives in Southwestern Ontario with her beloved dachshund and her husband - also very much beloved!

3.5 stars!

I almost didn’t read this book. At some point many, many years ago, I had the stomach flu and ended up stuck on my couch with no remote. As a result, I was stuck watching The Horse Whisperer on TV. I HATED the movie. I mean, really, REALLY hated it. I’ve felt vaguely like Robert Redford owes me money ever since. So when I saw the first line of the blurb, the words “horse whisperer” jumped off the page and smacked me in the face, bringing to mind images of puking while helplessly watching Kristin Scott Thomas cheat on her husband with a crusty old cowboy while a broken child and a broken horse looked on. But, because the author is super-charming and assured me her book was nothing like the movie that still makes me nauseous to this day, I gave it a read. And I’m glad I did. Mostly. Ella and Nicholas

New to this author. This book is over 300 pages so it is more value for money and more story but the story did feel like it went on long. at one point I realised I was only 60 pages in and so much had happened.the storyline was great and I know there is two more books before I started but I could see family and friends getting there story's soon lots of interesting characters in this book.I did feel sorry for Nick he was not being painted in a pretty way what with ex's and life choices (it reminded me of the rich Christian grey) but then you saw all the good he does to it was just over shadowed by the drama.that was a well written shock how the crazy ex played out at the end.well done to the author for thinking outside the box.

What the Heart Wants (Heart Series Book 1),

This was a special , tender story about Elle who had a special touch with animals but was afraid to let it be common knowledge. Then there was Nicholas who was a very in control man who had no special feeling for animals . That makes a strange situation when he delivers a disturbed horse that needed a special person who had a special ability to help animals in distress. So could these two extremely different people find a way to help his horse?

Loved the premise of the book with the whole connection to animals and to Nicholas. I eventually liked these two together too. But, to,me at least, the dialogue seemed unnaturally formal, especially n Nicholas’s part. Maybe that is because I don’t talk formal most of the time or maybe it’s just a more cultured setting that the author was trying to portray, not sure. But. Loved the horses and all the dressage references. I also loved the descriptions of the competitions, the horses moves and the control the rider has to have.

Heart series. It was well written.

I am looking forward to the next heart seies book. This one with Nickolas and Elle sparked my interest. Very romantic but not too much with the pitfalls and the resolving to get along in a relationship especially two from so different carriers and back grounds. It what it should be as we learn together.

Yikes...

Maybe it's just me, but everything about Nicholas is a giant red flag. Forget the playboy crap, he's controlling, clingy, prone to rages, and everything on the list of how to avoid an abusive relationship.

The mind meld was a cool angle but this whole relationship just gave me the prickles. 😳

I enjoyed the first half of the book. Then there were multiple instances where something happens, one of the MCs overreacts, then it's all good again.

I really liked the premise of the book. I liked the characters too, I just hated all the whiplash moments.

There are elements to this story which I really enjoyed, particularly the relationship Elle has with her friends and the animals. And there is an added twist to Elle which I'm not going to go into here, but which adds an extra twist to what would otherwise be a fairly straightforward contemporary romance.

However, the relationship between Elle and Nicholas is very much "he loves me, he loves me not". This relationship is on and off more times than a light switch in a light switch testing factory. And it became a little wearing.

Don't get me wrong, this is not badly written. I just wasn't convinced by their love story.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

4.5 stars Excellent contemporary millionaire/horse whisperer romance. Nicolas is a big sky attorney who picks and chooses his companion. His horse is having emotional problems. Elle is able to connect directly to his horse but gets confused by all the emotions she feels. She has a special gift that she protects. These two characters suffer hardship, turmoil and get seem to need one another. I received a complementary copy of this book (part of the Heart Series 1-3) and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.
